On November 2, 2020, Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal and Ambassador of Israel to India Ron Malka laid the foundation stone of Rs. 10.33 crore Indo-Israeli Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation at Khetri on the outskirts of Guwahati.
- The project will provide exposure to latest Israeli technologies to Assam’s agricultural and horticulture activities thereby helping in maximizing the production and income of farmers.
- This project is an edition to the government’s efforts to double farmers’ income through technology in agriculture, agribusiness and food processing.
Key Points:
–In the recent years, the Assam’s annual production of food grain, fruits, vegetable etc. has significantly increased with export to Dubai, London, Bangkok, Abu Dhabi and several others international destinations.
–Assam already has ongoing collaborations with Israel in furthering the growth of start-up ecosystem in the state through start-up exchange programme and Israeli mentorship of various start-up projects in Assam.

i.On 4th September 2020, The Government of Assam relaunched its old scheme Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (SVAYEM) worth Rs.1000 crore. The scheme is aimed to provide self-employment opportunities to more than 2 lakh youths of the state.
ii.On 25th September 2020, Government of Assam launched a mobile app named “Visitassam” for air passengers from other states. Visitassam enables the air passengers to download forms and fill it which can be used at the airports to reduce the time spent on the formalities for COVID-19 tests and ensures the proper social distancing among the passengers.
