Arton Capital’s Passport Index 2023 India Ranked 144According to Arton Capital’s latest update of ‘Passport Index 2023’(as of March 2023), India’s Mobility score (MS) has reduced by three places to 70 from 73 in 2022. India’s Individual Passport Power Rank also fell by six places to 144 (out of 199 countries) from 138 in 2022.

  • India ranks 71 in the Global Passport Power Rank 2023 due to the MS of 70
  • UAE ranks 1st in both the Global Passport Power Rank 2023 & Individual Passport Power Rank 2023 with a Mobility Score of 181. Afghanistan is ranked last (Global Passport Power Rank 2023 – 97 and Individual Passport Power Rank 2023 – 199)with a Mobility Score of 38.

Asia: 

  • South Korea, which is 12th in the individual rankings with a mobility score of 174, has the highest score in Asia.
  • Japan in 26th with a mobility score of 172 is its closest Asian competitor to South Korea.
  • China ranked relatively lower than other large economies at 118th in the Passport Index individual rankings.

Mobility Score (MS): It is the total number of countries that can be easily accessed with a given passport. It is a calculated total based on Visa-free, Visa-on-arrival, eTA (Electronic Travel Authorizations), and eVisa issued within 3 days.

i.Individual Passport Power Rank: It is based on both the Mobility Score and United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Index (UNDP HDI).

  • UNDP HDI is a summary measure of average achievement in key dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, being knowledgeable and have a decent standard of living.

ii.Passport Power Rank: It is based on the passport Mobility Score. The higher the Mobility Score (MS), the better the Passport Power Rank. Passports sharing the same MS have the same Passport Power Rank.

iii.Electronic Visa (eVisa) is a visa that is obtained online.
