On 15th May 2020, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda launched the ‘GOAL’ – Going Online As Leaders Programme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs(MoTA) in partnership with Facebook at a Webinar in New Delhi. GOAL is designed to provide mentorship to tribal youth with digital mode.The program will focus on three core areas – Digital Literacy, Life Skills and Leadership and Entrepreneurship, and on sectors such as Agriculture, Art & Culture, Handicrafts & Textiles, Health, Nutrition, among others.
i.The GOAL is a unique and influential programme developed to act as a catalyst in exploring the talents of the tribal youth and help in their personal development and contribute in uplifting their society by creating an environment to empower tribal women by connecting them with the digital world.
ii.This programme demonstrates affirmative actions to reduce the gap between the tribal and non-tribal youth and will enlist them in participation of tribal youth in nation building.
iii.In this program 5000 scheduled tribe youth(Mentees) will be trained by the experts of different fields (Mentors). There will be 2 mentees under a mentor. The mentors will be connected with the mentees through the digital platforms to share aspirations, dreams and talents.
iv.The aspirants can apply through an online portal ‘goal.tribal.gov.in’ the application is open from May 4,2020 till midnight of July 3,2020.
v.The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology requested the association of Common Service Centres(CSCs) to support the ST youth who do not have smartphone access for registration with the portal.
vi.The selected mentees are provided with smartphones and Internet access for a year by facebook with the exposure to external forums to provide opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities.
vii.This program will create awareness among the beneficiaries about the initiated by Central and State governments for welfare of STs.
viii.The Launch took place in the presence of Renuka Singh Saruta Minister of State Tribal Affairs, Deepak Khandekar Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, with senior officers in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and representatives of Facebook through webinar.
