On October 23, 2020 Apurva Chandra, Secretary (Labour and Employment), Ministry of Labour and Employment was elected as the Chairperson of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for the period October 2020- June 2021. It is to be noted that India assumes the Chairmanship of the Governing Body of ILO after 35 years.
- He will preside over the upcoming meeting of the Governing Body to be held in November 2020.

ii.The Governing Body is the apex executive body of the ILO, that decides policies, programmes, agenda, budget and also elects the Director-General.Â
About Apurva Chandra
i.He is a 1988 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Maharashtra Cadre.
ii.He spent over 7 years in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas in the Government of India.
iii.Between 2013 and 2017, he worked as the Principal Secretary (Industries) in the Government of Maharashtra.Â
iv.He joined the position, Director General (Acquisition) in the Ministry of Defence w.e.f.(with effect from) 01.12.2017Â
v.He chaired the Committee to draft the new Defence Acquisition Procedure.Â
vi.It is to be noted that the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 came into effect on October 1, 2020.
