AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched Jagananna Jeeva KranthiOn December 10, 2020, Andhra Pradesh (AP) Chief Minister (CM) Jagan Mohan Reddy virtually launched the ‘Jagananna Jeeva Kranthi’ scheme worth INR 1, 869 Crores for distribution of  2,49,151 sheeps, goats for improving the living standards of women.

Objective:

To develop self-reliance among women through business opportunities and by providing assistance for better investments.

Beneficiaries:

Women belonging to Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) in the age group of 45-60 years.

Gist of the Scheme:

i.Each Unit will consist of  15 Sheeps or Goats (5-6 months old 14 ewe lambs + 1 breeding ram or 14 weaned does + 1 breeding buck).

ii.They will be distributed in 3 phases – 20, 000 units till March 2021, 1.3 Lakh Units from April 2021-August 2021 and 99, 151 units from September 2021-December 2021.

iii.AP Government has signed into an Memorandum of Understanding  (MoU) with Allana Group for the procurement of sheeps and goats and also a platform for marketing the meat products, this platform will act as a market for the beneficiaries of the scheme.

iv.AP Government had also launched the distribution of 4.69 lakh units cows and buffaloes with ₹3,500 crore to strengthen dairy sector, taking to total of ₹5,400 crore.

Key Points:

i.The scheme will help in boosting the rural economy of AP.

ii.Beneficiaries can  buy local sheep or goat breeds from a region of their own choice.

iii.A committee of 2 veterinary doctors, officials from SERP (Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty) and banks will guide beneficiaries who want to procure goats and sheeps from other sources.

iv.Women can sell their products anywhere, there will be no compulsion to sell them to particular entities.

Training Centres:

2 training centres for the purpose of sheep breeding will be established in Dhone, Kurnool district and Penugonda, Anantapur district.

MoU:

i.Andhra Pradesh has signed MoU with Reliance, Allana Group, Amul, Hindustan Unilever, Procter & Gamble and ITC to empower the women beneficiaries of YSR Cheyutha and Aasara schemes.

ii.As part of MoU, Allana will establish Meat Processing units in East Godavari and Kurnool districts to help the beneficiaries.

Dignitaries Present:

Deputy CM Dharmana Krishnadas, Ministers Botcha Satyanarayana, Kurasala Kannababu, Seediri Appalaraju, AP Agri Mission Vice-Chairman M.V.S. Nagireddy, and Special Chief Secretary Poonam Malakondaiah were present during the virtual launch.
