India’s Ankita Raina defeated Katy Dunne of UK in straight sets in a one-sided final to lift her maiden USD 25,000 ITF singles title at the Deccan Gymkhana. The 21-year-old girl from Ahmedabad easily defeated her rival in straight sets 6-2 and 6-2.
Ankita become the first Indian to clinch the title in the tournament after 14 years. Radhika Tulpule, the then national women’s champion, had won it in the inaugural year of the tournament by beating compatriot Archana Venkatraman in the final.
Ankita earned 50 WTA points and pocketed the winner’s prize money of USD 3,919 (around Rs 2.45 lakh).
