Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the digital payment services through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in 15, 004 village and ward secretariats through video conference.
i.The Government of Andhra Pradesh has entered into a tie-up with National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) and Canara Bank for this digitalisation process.
ii.The facility was launched in the presence of Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy Canara Bank Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, LV Prabhakar and NCPI Chief Executive Officer Dilip Asbe.
Key Points:
i.The Scheme has been launched to ensure easy, safe and speed transactions in the rural areas.
ii.Around 545 types of services will be available for payment under this digitalisation process.
iii.To ensure the delivery of welfare schemes straight to the beneficiaries, One Volunteer is to be assigned for every 50 families and One Secretariat to be set up for every village or village having a population of 2, 000.
