On 19th March 2021, Indian Actor Amitabh Bachchan received the FIAF Award 2021 by the International Federation of Film Archives (French: Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film, FIAF), an international organization of film archives and museums across the globe over a virtual award ceremony hosted from Mumbai, Maharashtra. The award was bestowed upon him by former FIAF Award recipients and filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan.
- Amitabh became the first Indian to receive this award.
- He was nominated by the FIAF Affiliate Film Heritage Foundation, founded by filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur in 2014 to preserve the endangered Film heritage of India.
About Amitabh Bachchan:
i.The veteran Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan became the ambassador of the Film Heritage foundation in 2015.
ii.Working with the film heritage foundation, He has contributed to the preservation of the Indian film heritage.
Other Honours:
i.He has received India’s 3 highest civilian awards, Padma Shri (1984), Padma Bhushan(2001) and Padma Vibhushan(2015) for arts.
ii.He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honours of Indian Cinema in 2019.
About FIAF Award:
i.The FIAF Award was introduced in 2001 and the inaugural award was presented to American Martin Scorsese.
ii.The annual FIAF Award is presented to a film personality whose experience and personal contribution to the field of cinema are in line with the missions of the FIAF.
iii.The award recognises the contribution of the individual towards preserving the world film heritage for the pleasure of today’s audience and the benefit of future generations.
iv.The trophy is a silver film made by Talleres de Los Ballesteros in Mexico, with the help of the Filmoteca de la UNAM.
