TIME, the news magazine based in the United States of America (USA), has named the American singer-songwriter Taylor Alison Swift as its 2023 Person of the Year and became the 1st person to be recognised for her achievements in the arts.
- With this, She became the 1st woman to appear twice on a Person of the Year cover since the nominations began in 1927.
- Previously, She was named TIME’s Person of the Year in 2017.
- She is also the 4th individual selection who was born in the last 50 years.
About Person of the Year Award:
TIME magazine’s “Person of the Year” has been published since 1927 to recognise a person/a group/an idea/an object that has done the most to influence the events of the year.
Until 1999, it was known as “Man of the Year”.

Lionel Andrés Messi, Captain of Argentina’s national football team, has been named Time magazine’s Athlete of the Year for 2023.
In 2023, He has won a Ballon d’Or for a record 8th time and raised awareness of the sport in the USA by joining the Miami International Football Club or Inter Miami CF, an American professional soccer club.

An American entrepreneur Sam Altman, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of OpenAI, has been named Time Magazine’s CEO of The Year 2023. He co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with a mission to advance digital intelligence and he became the CEO in 2019.
- He launched the Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT), and toured the world promoting the next-generation technology.
- OpenAI is an Artificial Intelligence research and deployment company founded by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and others. It transitioned into a for-profit organization in 2019.
Alex Newell named 2023 Breakthrough of the Year:
American actor and singer, Alex Eugene Newell, was named TIME’s 2023 Breakthrough of the Year. Newell was recognized for their success as a non-binary actor on stage and screen.
- In 2023, Newell became one of the two first non-binary actors to win The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre (Tony Awards) which recognises the excellence in live Broadway theatre.
