On September 10, 2019, The 8th Edition of Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable (AMER8) for the year 2019 was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India was the co host along with UAE. It was held alongside the 24th Edition of World Energy Congress (WEC). From the Indian side, it was attended by the Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Mr Dharmendra Pradhan who is on a 3 day visit to UAE.
Key Points:
i. Plenary sessions: AMER8 had 2 Plenary sessions which focussed on the role of new technologies for a more competitive & productive world energy mix and advancing inclusive access to secure, affordable, and sustainable energy services.
ii. Participants: There were 18 Asian Energy Ministers and 10 Heads of International Organisations who held debates on Global Energy Security in the Age of Change and empower responsible growth in Asia and the world.
iii. Discussions: Roundtable discussions were held on the outcomes of the 7th Edition of Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable (November 1-3, 2017) and 16th International Energy Forum (IEF) Ministerial (April 10-12, 2018) held in Bangkok, Thailand and in New Delhi, India respectively.
iv. 17th Ministerial IEF: The findings from the AMER8 will help the 17th ministerial IEF scheduled to be held in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh on 17 April 2020 with Morocco and Nigeria as co-hosts.
v. AMER9: It is scheduled to be held in New Delhi in 2021.
vi. Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan is on a 3 nation visit to Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar from 7-12 September 2019 where he will engage with his counterparts in oil & gas as well as steel sector.
vii. 24th WEC: The 24th Edition of World Energy Congress (WEC) for 2019 was held from September 9-12, 2019 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, UAE under the theme “Energy for Prosperity”. It is a triennial event.
