In a pioneering move to exterminate open defecation, the Ahmadabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), has announced ‘Use and get Paid’ scheme under which people, using public toilets ,will be paid Re 1.
The civic amenities body has turned around its ‘Pay and Use’ public toilets scheme to ‘Use and get Paid’ in its proffer to keep the city clean and control the peril of open defecation. This scheme was cleared by Standing Committee of the AMC.
It does not plan to pay every user, but it will identify people who defecate in open regularly and persuade them against it and to urge them to use public toilets by rewarding them. AMC has already identified around 1,200 such people in 120 spots in the city and the list will be revised at regular intervals. These places will be provided with lavatory facilities.
Open defecation was mostly seen in eastern part of the city along with Vadaj and Sabarmati areas near Sabarmati ashram and Gulbai Tekra area.
This scheme is believed to help reach the motive of eradicating open defecation, which is a big threat in most Indian states, it is also a part of the greater Swacha Bharat scheme.
