The Maiden Naval Exercise “AL-MOHED AL-HINDI-2021” between Indian Navy and the Royal Saudi Naval Forces commenced on August 9, 2021. INS Kochi, the flagship Destroyer of the Indian Western Naval Fleet, arrived at the Port-al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia representing India.
- The exercise was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but was postponed due to COVID-19.
- A number of shore and sea based drills is scheduled to take place between the two Navies.
- In December 2020, the 1st ever visit of Indian Army Chief General M M Naravane to Saudi Arabia took place. The armies of the two nations have planned to hold the 1st ever joint military exercise in the later part of 2021.
- INS Kochi is the 2nd Ship of the Kolkata class Stealth Guided Missile Destroyer, built indigenously by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.
INS Shivalik and Kadmatt reaches Brunei to enhance Bilateral Ties
Indian Navy deployed INS Shivalik and INS Kadmatt to Muara, Brunei to participate in various bilateral professional interactions with the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
- It will enhance interoperability, gain from best practices and develop common understanding of procedures for Maritime Security Operations.
- The bilateral exercise would conclude with a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the Royal Brunei Navy at sea on 12 Aug 21.
- On completion of bilateral exercise with Royal Brunei Navy, the 2 ships will head to Guam (a U.S. island territory in Micronesia) to participate in exercise MALABAR-21 with the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the United States Navy (USN).
