Administrative Professionals Day coincides with Administrative Professionals Week (APW), a week-long celebration dedicated to secretaries and administrative professionals in recognition of their contributions to business and industries.

APW 2024 is observed from 21 to 27 April 2024.
- APW 2023 was observed from 23rd to 29th April 2023.
- APW 2025 will be observed from 20th to 26th April 2025.
Origin and Evolution of the Observance:
i.The origin of the observance of Administrative Professionals Day/Week dates back to 1952.
ii.In 1952, then United States (US) Secretary of Commerce, Charles Sawyer proclaimed 1st to 7th June 1952 as National Secretaries Week. He also designated 4 June 1952(Wednesday) as 1st National Secretaries Day.
iii.In 1955, the National Secretaries Association (NSA) changed the observance dates to the last full week of April and designated Wednesday of the week as Administrative Professionals Day.
Name Changes:
i.The name of the observance was changed to Professional Secretaries Day/Week in 1981 when the NSA became Professional Secretaries International (PSI).
ii.In 1998, PSI was renamed as International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP).
iii.In 2000, the observance was again renamed as Administrative Professionals Day/Week.
iv.The name change of the observance reflects the expanding roles and responsibilities and wide-ranging job titles of administrative professionals.
