Govt approves appointments of new NIA, NDRF, BPRD chiefsThe Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of

  • Sadanand Vasant Date as the Director General(DG) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
  • Piyush Anand as DG of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
  • Rajeev Kumar as DG of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).

Sadanand Vasant Date appointed as DG of NIA:

Sadanand Vasant Date, a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) office of Maharashtra cadre, will take charge as DG of NIA succeeding the incumbent Dinkar Gupta, who is set to retire on 31st March 2024.

  • Date will hold the post for a tenure up to his superannuation on 31st December 2026 or until further orders.
  • He is currently serving as the Chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra.

About Sadanand Vasant Date:

i.He has previously served as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and IG (operations) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

ii.He was awarded with President’s Medal for Gallantry for saving lives during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Piyush Anand Appointed as DG of NDRF:

Piyush Anand, 1991 batch IPS of Uttar Pradesh(UP) Cadre will take charge as the DG of NDRF succeeding Atul Karwal, current DG of NDRF, who is set to retire on 31st March 2024.

Piyush Anand will hold the post for 2 years (till 2026) with effect from the date of joining or until further orders.

  • Piyush Anand is currently serving as the special DG of the Central Industrial Security Force(CISF).

Rajeev Kumar Sharma Appointed as DG of BPR&D

Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, will take charge as the DG of BPR&D succeeding the incumbent Balaji Srivastava, who is set to retire in March 2024.

  • Sharma will hold the post till his superannuation on 30th June 2026 or until further orders.
  • He is currently serving as the Director General (Anti-Corruption Bureau) of Rajasthan.

Note: Previously, he served as the Director general of police (DGP) (Law and Order), Rajasthan Armed Constabulary(RAC), and State Disaster Response Force(SDRF).

Other Appointments:

i.ACC has also approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to repatriate PV Ramashastri, 1989 batch IPS of UP cadre, to his parent cadre.

  • PV Ramashastri is currently serving as the special DG(operations) in the Border Security Force(BSF).

ii.ACC has also approved the appointment of S.Suresh, 1995 batch IPS officer of Kerala Cadre, as the Additional DG of the Special Protection Group (SPG).
