ISRO launches earth-observation Cartosat-2E and 30 nano satellites

On June 23, 2017, Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) launched Cartosat-2E satellite and 30 nano satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre located at Srihrikota in Andhra Pradesh.

More Details about the launch of Cartosat-2E and 30 nano satellites on June 23, 2017:

712 kg Cartosat-2E satellite and 30 nano satellites together, weighing about 243 kg were launched using ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle(PSL-C38).

• Cartosat-2E is a remote sensing satellite and is similar in configuration to earlier satellites in the series. Its objective is to provide high-resolution scene specific spot imagery.
• The images sent by the Cartosat-2E will be useful for cartographic applications, urban and rural applications, coastal land use and regulation, utility management like road network monitoring, water distribution, creation of land use maps, change detection to bring out geographical and man-made features and various other land information system (LIS) as well as geographical information system (GIS) applications.
• Cartosat – 2E is expected to last for five year.
• 30 nano satellites comprise 29 Nano satellites from 14 countries—Austria, Belgium, Chile, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and a Nano satellite from India.
• One nano satellite from India is the NIUSAT, made by students of Noorul Islam University in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. It is a remote sensing satellite intended to support agriculture and natural disaster management.
• The satellites have been placed in a 505km polar sun synchronous orbit.

• Cartosat-2E satellite is sixth in the Cartosat-2 series, preceded by Cartosat – 2, Cartosat – 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D.
