About Heritage Line of Delhi Metro
This heritage line will connect Old Delhi areas with the commercial hub of Delhi at Janpath.
- It is an extension of the existing Violet Line that runs between Faridabad and ITO and is expected to take considerable load off Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar stations of Yellow Line.
- Heritage Line comprises four stations viz. Kashmere Gate, Dilli Gate,Jama Masjid and Lal Qila on the stretch of 5.17 km.
- All these stations have been decorated in line with historical theme, depicting the glorious past and buzzing present. The artwork has been done by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).
- This line got clearance from NMA (National Monuments Authority) in February 2013 and was supposed to open for public last year. However, owing to vulnerability of this stretch, the construction proceeded at a conservative speed by taking due care so that historical ramparts are not damaged. Procurement of land and unavailability of required labour force post demonetisation are other reasons cited by metro officials which slowed the pace of construction.
