Human Resource and Development Minister Smriti Irani has appointed the former editor of Panchajanya, Baldev Sharma as the new chairman of National Book Trust. Panchajanya is one of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh‘s (RSS) publications. The post was previously held by Sethumadhavan, who has a very long literary career of nearly five decades. He authored more than 15 novels and 20 collections of short stories.

- The National Book Trust was established by the Government of India as an apex body in 1957.
- The main objective of the NBT is to encourage the production of good literature in English, Hindi and other Indian languages.Â
- NBT also make sure that the produced books are available at moderate prices to the public.Â
- NBT actively publish non- textbooks, organize Book Fairs and Book Exhibitions, conducts many literary events, and also participates in International Book Fairs to promote Indian literature.
