New Zealand‘s Captain Brendon McCullum recorded the fastest-ever World Cup fifty, by reaching the landmark against England in just 18 balls. McCullum beat his own World Cup record, having made a fifty off 20 balls against Canada in the 2007 World Cup in West Indies.
This fifty is now the third fastest in all one-day internationals. The record holders in fastest fifty are
- South Africa‘s AB de Villiers – 16 balls
- Sri Lanka‘s Sanath Jayasuriya – 17 balls
