Aiming to give a major boost to Namami Gange Programme, 231 projects inaugurated today at over 100 locations in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi.
Projects Worth: Rs.1500 Crore
On July 7 ‘Namami Gange’ with the launch of 231 projects including those of STP installations aiming to clean the holy river and ensuring its unhobble flow.
Union Ministers Nithin Gadkari (Minister of Road Transport & highways and Shipping), Umabharti ( water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation), Narendra Tomar and Mahesh Sharma launch the works in Haridwar along with the Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat.
The entry-level project activities include
- Ghat and crematoria construction/repair,
- River front beautification,
- Installation and repair of sewage treatment plants (STPs),
- afforestation,
- tree plantation,
- pilot drain project,
- interceptor drain project,
- trash skimmers and conservation of biodiversity.
Future plans:
- ‘Ganga Padayatra’ (foot march) in October this year – To create awareness among the people about advantages of a ‘Clean Ganga’ and how they could contribute to it.
- Namami Gange will achieve its objective by 2018
- Government will install 60 sewage treatment plants and launch 50 other big projects under the mission later this year.
