A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into cyclonic storm Hudhud and may hit north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Odisha by October 12.
The Bhubaneswar centre of the Indian Meteorological Department said the deep depression moved west-northwestwards and lay centered over North Andman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, about 1150 km southwest of Gopalpur coast.
The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Fire Services and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) stationed in Odisha have also been kept on alert for their eventual deployment on short notice for evacuation.
Last year, on October 12, a very severe cyclonic storm ‘Phailin’ had hit Odisha coast at Gopalpur causing extensive damage.
