Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Rs. 8,000 crore scheme to provide 5 crore free LPG connections to Below Poverty Line (BPL) using the money saved from 1.13 crore cooking gas users pledge on “Give it Up” compaign.
‘Give-it-Up’
Seeks to voluntarily surrender cooking gas subsidies for one year was launched in January, 2015.

- Uttar Pradesh – 13 lakh
- Delhi – 7.26 lakh
- Gujarat – 4.2 lakh
- Odisha – 1.3 lakh
Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu – half of the people given up LPG subsidies
Entitlements:
12 cylinders of 14.2 kg each or 34 bottles of 5 kg each in a year at subsidised rates
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley mentioned in the Budget for 2016-17 provided Rs 2000 crore to provide deposit free LPG connections to 1.5 crore women belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
