While Delhi may be the dirtiest city in terms of high air pollution but the Mumbai is reported the maximum violation of safe noise levels for consistently longer periods during 2011-14 and becomes Noisiest City in India.

Sources of Noise Pollution:
Generator sets, Office Machines, Aircraft, Industrial and Construction activities
- Central Pollution Control Board observed that noise pollution limit is defined that noise level beyond the 55dB during day and 45 dB during night as prescribed.
- Effects of Noise Pollution: Aggression, hypertension, hearing loss, tinnitus leads to Forgetfulness, Severe depression and panic attack and sleep disturbance
Initiatives:
- Real time monitoring data from 35 locations in seven cities
- Reduced by normalising the location-wise day time and night time noise level
- Database is to help policymakers in framing standards and policy formulation for controlling noise pollution and ensure compliance of existing rules.
Future Plans: CPCB plans to set up monitoring stations at 160 locations across 18 states
Current Plan: The noise level in Delhi is monitored at ITO, Dilshad Garden, Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), NSIT Dwarka and CPCB headquarters in East Arjun Nagar.
