Annual Ranking of countries based on the organization compilation of the Countries press freedom in the previous year

- Shows the levels of freedom that journalists, News Organisations enjoy in the country
- India gains at 133 among 180 countries in the recent annual meeting of World Press freedom Index and there is improvement in the rank whereas 136th in 2015.
- Finland retains its first position for the sixth consecutive year, Netherlands and Norway gains successive position
Threats posed to Indian Journalists:
- Attacked and criticized by various Religious groups
- Doing journalism in Kashmir is regarded as vulnerable
- There is no mechanism for protecting them

- China – 176
- Pakistan – 147
- Sri Lanka – 141
- Bangladesh – 144
- Afghanistan – 120
- Nepal – 105
- Bhutan – 94
United States is ranked 44th and Russia is at 148
