The Telengana government as a part of development has decided to replace the existing bulbs with LED in 25 municipalities within 100 days.

- A high level meeting held on Tuesday consisting of IT Minister KT Rama Rao, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Housing Minister A Indrakaran Reddy and officials of power sector held a discussion with ESSL to supply LED at lower prices
- ESSL(Energy Savings Services Limited) is a joint venture of PSU’s of ministry of power with the objective of implementing energy efficient projects
- 12 lakh households of 25 municipalities are going to be supplied with LED bulbs in the first phase
- Later the scheme will be implemented in other municipalities and Panchayats
- In the second phase, the street lights are going to be replaced with LED’s
- LED lights based on population: 150 lights for 1 lakh population, 200 lights for 1 to 3 lakh population and 300 lights for more than 3 lakh
- In the third phase the government will provide LED bulbs with subsidy
- The aim of the government is to supply LED to 90 lakh households
- The government will bear the expenditure of two bulbs and the energy department would benefit in the form of energy saved in the process
- Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Ramagundem, Waranagal and Khammam, the municipalities of Siddipet, Siricilla, Mahbubnagar, Manchiryal, Nalgonda and Tandur, and the Gajwel nagar panchayat are the areas to be benefitted under this project
