Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry had launched National Deworming Day in schools and anganwadis across the country.The main objective of National Deworming Day is to deworm all children between the ages of 1-19 years at schools and anganwadi centers and to improve their health, nutritional status, cognitive development, and quality of life.
Key Highlights about National Deworming Day
- The Government of India launched the National Deworming Day and it was implemented in 10 states and 1 union territory and these are Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
- The national programme was inaugurated in Jaipur, Rajasthan by the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda.
- It will come out to be the world’s largest public health campaign for treatment of intestinal parasitic worms.
- Parasitic worms will result to anemia, malnourishment, and impaired mental and physical development.
- These worms’ results in Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections which are transmitted by eggs present in human faces.
- World Health Organization (WHO) had guess that nearly 241 million children between the ages of 1-14 years are to be at risk of parasitic intestinal worm infections which is 68 per cent of total children.
- Half a tablet of crushed albendazole (400mg) in water is to be given to Children aged 1-2 and Children above the age of 2 are given 1 full tablet to chew.
- Proper sanitation and cleanliness will play an important role in prevention from the diseases.
