PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates ‘Param Pragya’ AI-powered Supercomputing Facility At IIT Delhi
In August 2026, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, the Chief Guest at the 57th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D), inaugurated ‘Param Pragya,’ an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled high-performance supercomputing facility at the institute’s Sonipat campus, Haryana.

  • The facility is expected to strengthen IIT Delhi’s capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science, advanced computing, and interdisciplinary research

Highlight of the Event:
Presented Honors: During the event, PM Narendra Modi presented the President’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals to graduating students for outstanding academic excellence.
Felicitation : PM Modi and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, Ministry of Education (MoE), were felicitated at the ceremony by Harish Salve, chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG) for IIT-D and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT-D.

Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh Dedicates First-of-Its-Kind ‘Eco-Educational Hub’ to Nation in Lucknow, UP
In August 2026, Union Minister of State(MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), dedicated ‘Prakriti Gyan Dham’, a first-of-its-kind eco-educational hub, at the Maharishi Parashar Bioresource Centre (MPBC), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (UP), integrating scientific research, environmental education, biodiversity conservation, botanical heritage and cultural interpretation.

  • The newly launched hub was developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI).

Highlights of the Event:
Other Key Launches: Apart from the launch of eco-education hub, the event witnessed the launch of some of the other key initiatives such as:

  • Herbal Formulation: An herbal formulation for male reproductive health, developed in partnership with Himalaya;
  • Release of Documentary: Also, a documentary on India’s Heritage Gardens was released at the event, which highlights the country’s botanical wealth and the historical, cultural and ecological significance associated with its plant diversity.

Technology Transfer: The event also witnessed the transfer of 04 plant-based technologies that include:  Herbal Anti-Dandruff Hair Care Oil, Frotus: Lotus-inspired Perfume, Frotus: Rudra Perfume and Herbal Nano Serum, were transferred to the Kudumbashree State Poverty Eradication Mission in Kerala, that aimed to support women-led entrepreneurship and livelihood generation through science-based products.

  • During the event, CSIR-NBRI transferred its Design and Development of a Low-Cost Photobioreactor technology to Lucknow (UP)-based Witwake Solutions Pvt. Ltd., bolstering the link between scientific research and industrial applications.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah Flags Off Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra in Puducherry 
In August 2026, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), flagged off the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra’ campaign at Murugaa Theatre Signal, Puducherry, during his two-day visit to the Union Territory (UT), encouraging citizens to celebrate the Tricolour as a symbol of India’s unity, sovereignty and national identity.
About Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra:
Background: In 2022, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Key Focus: This year, the special focus will be on the commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram”, along with that various activities will be organised at district-level, block-level and panchayat-level, as part of the campaign.
President’s Colour: During his visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the prestigious President’s Colours to the Puducherry Police during an event held at the Police Training School ground in Gorimedu, honouring the force for its bravery, service, hard work and dedication.

8th Edition of IN–US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Exercise Begins in Kochi
In August 2026, the Indian Navy (IN) and the United States Navy (USN) commenced the 8th Edition of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Exercise 2026 at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi, Kerala from 10 August to 14 August 2026.

  • The five-day bilateral exercise aims to enhance interoperability, operational synergy, and professional cooperation between the specialist diving and EOD teams of the two navies.
  • The 7th edition of the IN–USN Salvage and EOD exercise, SALVEX, was conducted from 26th June to 6th July 2023 in Kochi.

About EOD Exercise 2026:
Objective: The exercise aims to enhance cooperation between specialist diving and EOD teams by enabling personnel from both navies to refine operational procedures, improve mutual understanding, and strengthen response capabilities against complex and evolving EOD challenges.
Training Modules: The exercise includes Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs), cross-training sessions, equipment demonstrations, and scenario-based practical exercises to enhance operational coordination between the two navies.

DPIIT Signs MoUs with Industry Leaders to Strengthen Startup Ecosystem 
In August 2026, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I) signed five strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with industry leaders: Cashfree Payments, Darwin Dynamics, Vultr India, Cars24, and the Council for Startup India (CSI)

  • The partnerships aim to improve startups’ access to digital infrastructure, technology, mentorship, investment opportunities and global markets.

Highlights of the MoUs:
Partnerships: DPIIT partnered with Cashfree Payments, Vultr India Private Limited, and Cars24 Services Private Limited to support startups with digital payments, cloud infrastructure, and innovation in mobility through Artificial Intelligence (AI), skilling, mentorship, and investment opportunities.
Expansion: It also signed MoUs with Darwin Dynamics LLP and Computer Society of India to expand entrepreneurship in Tier II, Tier III, and rural regions while enabling mentorship, capacity building, investment readiness, leadership development, and global market access.

NeGD Partners with AAERI Launches New Digital Platform ‘AAERI Verify’ 
In August 2026, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AEERI) launched ‘AAERI Verify’, a digital platform at the AAERI Annual Convention in New Delhi, Delhi.
About AEERI Verify:
Aim: The platform streamlines document verification for Indian students applying to Australian universities through a two-stage process: an initial check before university application, followed by a post-admission verification of the sponsor’s financial details.
Integration: The digital platform is integrated with DigiLocker, enabling secure, paperless, and consent-based verification of academic, identity, and financial documents.
Significance: The platform addresses forged documents, fake academic marksheets, and inaccurate financial information in international student applications, while reducing manual verification from 5–9 days to around 120–240 seconds through digital checks.
About DigiLocker: It is a flagship Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative of MeitY’s National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Digital India Programme, has over 72 crore registered users and enables secure issuance, storage, sharing and real-time verification of digitally signed documents.

CCRAS and BIS Signs MoU to Establish International Quality Standards For AYUSH
In August 2026, the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) under the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in New Delhi, Delhi to strengthen quality standards, conformity assessment, scientific research, and capacity building in the AYUSH sector.

  • This MoU marks the 100th MoU signed by the BIS and the first with an AYUSH organisation.

Key Details of MoU:
Signatories: The MoU was signed by Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General (DG), CCRAS, and Sanjay Pant, Deputy Director General (DDG) (Standardisation-II), BIS, in the presence of Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH.
Aim: Establish global Ayurveda standards for safer, scientifically validated products and practices, supporting the international acceptance of evidence-based traditional medicine.
Key Focus : The partnership will support Ayurveda and other Ayush standards, strengthen laboratory quality and conformity assessment, validate traditional knowledge scientifically, and enhance India’s role in international standardisation.
About BIS: Established in 1987 as a statutory body under the BIS Act, 2016 and is headquartered in New Delhi.

RBI Releases 101st Survey of SPF, Survey Projects 6.6% GDP Forecast for FY27
In August 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the 101st Survey of Professional Forecasters (SPF), which projected Financial Year 2026-27 (FY27) real Gross Domestic Product growth at 6.6%, up from 6.5% estimated in the 100th SPF conducted in May 2026.

  • Also, it has projected that India will grow at 7.0% in FY28.

Growth Forecasts by the Survey
GDP Forecast: SPF panellists placed GDP growth forecasts in the range of 6.0-7.2% for FY27 and in the range of 6.5-7.8% for FY28.
Quarterly Projections: Real GDP growth is projected at 6.8% (year-on-year) during the first quarter of FY27.

  • Real GDP growth is expected to remain within the range of 6.4% to 7.0% over the subsequent four quarters.

IndusInd Bank, EazyDiner Launches Lifetime-free Credit Card linked to UPI Payments 
In August 2026, IndusInd Bank Limited, a leading private sector bank, and EazyDiner, a dining platform, jointly launched ‘EazyDiner IndusInd Bank Platinum RuPay Credit Card’, a new lifetime-free co-branded credit card offering dining discounts, entertainment benefits and  Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment functionality.
About Platinum RuPay Credit Card:
Linked with UPI Apps: The new credit card, issued on the RuPay network, can be linked with various UPI applications (apps), enabling customers to make  UPI payments through Quick Response (QR) codes and earning rewards on eligible transactions.
Fee: Customers can avail the benefits offered by the credit card without paying any annual and joining fee.
Benefits: The co-branded credit card offers annual benefits worth up to Rs. 21,495, including dining savings of up to Rs. 18,000, Rs. 500 additional discount up to 3 times monthly, a monthly BookMyShow Buy One Get One movie ticket, and 3-month EazyDiner Prime membership worth Rs. 1,095.

Indel Money’s Arm Secures Perpetual License from RBI to Offer Trade Remittance Services 
In August 2026, Indel Remit, the foreign exchange division of Indel Money Limited, secured the perpetual Authorised Dealer-II (AD-II) licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to offer trade remittance services, thereby expanding the company’s foreign exchange capabilities.
About Permitted Transactions:
Eligible Transactions:The approval will now enable the company to undertake any non-trade current account transaction permissible under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA 2026).
Exemptions: However, as per RBI directions, the company is not allowed to undertake gifts, donations and transactions exceeding  the Rs 25 lakh permissible limit.
Target Audience: Under the newly issued license, the company will now be able to provide services for Micros, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), traders, and business executives.
About Indel Remit: Established in September 2023, Indel Remit is currently operating under an AD Category-II license issued by the RBI, with its headquarter in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It offers foreign exchange and cross-border payment solutions, including inward and outward remittances for family maintenance purposes.

Cabinet Approves One-Year Extension for ED Director Rahul Navin
In August 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, approved a one-year extension for Rahul Navin, Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), extending his tenure until 13 August 2027 or until further orders, beyond his superannuation on 31 July 2027.
Key Details of Appointment:
Profile: Rahul Navin is a 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS – Income Tax) officer (IT:93074) with extensive experience in the ED, where he has held several key positions and contributed to major investigations undertaken by the agency.
Previous Role: He joined the ED as Special Director in 2019 and was appointed as Director (In-Charge) in September 2023.

  • He was appointed as the full-time ED Director on 14th August 2024 following the completion of Sanjay Kumar Mishra’s tenure.

About ED: It operates under the Department of Revenue (DoR), Ministry of Finance (MoF), and handles investigation and prosecution of money laundering cases along with foreign exchange law violations.

In August 2026, Astrobase Space Technologies private Limited unveiled ‘EVEREST’, India’s first privately developed 800 kilonewton (kN) Full-Flow Staged Combustion (FFSC) rocket engine, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, designed for reusable medium-lift launch vehicles and advanced orbital missions.
About EVEREST Rocket Engine:
Technology: Uses FFSC with fully gasified propellants for higher pressure, efficiency, and lower thermal stress, representing one of the most complex engine architectures.
Propulsion: Liquid Oxygen (LOX)–methane engine delivering 800 kN thrust, 50%–110% throttle, approximately 340 seconds specific impulse, enabling precise control, multiple restarts, reusable medium-lift and orbital missions.
Development: Astrobase completed sub-scale and turbopump tests in 2025–26, plans around 20 engines, and targets full-scale hot-fire testing in 2026.

  • Its facilities include a 46,000 square feet (sq ft) Bengaluru facility, Karnataka and a 21.5-acre Anantapur test site, Andhra Pradesh (AP) with the first launch targeted for December 2028

In August 2026, Ariha Pangambam from Manipur secured India’s first-ever individual gold medal with a top score of 19.100 points in the 10th Senior Women’s individual event at the Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships 2026 in Tagaytay City, Philippines, held on 5-7 August 2026.

  • Chanyapit Manee of Thailand won silver, while Mahiro Kishibe of Japan secured bronze in the event.

About Ariha Pangambam: 
Performance: Ariha Pangambam scored 19.100 points (8.650 artistry, 7.600 execution, 2.850 difficulty), demonstrating excellence in both technical precision and artistic performance.
Background: She had finished 4th in the 2022 and 2024 editions and previously won gold medals at the National Games, including the 2025 Uttarakhand edition, marking this as a major comeback.
10th Asian Aerobic Gymnastics Championships: Organized by the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines under the guidance of the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU), the event is the premier continental championship for senior aerobic gymnastics, featuring categories such as Individual Men, Individual Women, Mixed Pairs, Trios, and Groups.

World Lion Day 2026 – August 10

Background:
Initiation:  World Lion Day was started in 2013 by Big Cat Rescue (BCR), a wildlife sanctuary in Florida, United States of America (USA), dedicated to lion conservation.
Founders:  The initiative was co-founded by Dereck and Beverly Joubert.
Big Cat Initiative:  In 2009, Dereck and Beverly Joubert partnered with National Geographic to launch the Big Cat Initiative (BCI) for the conservation of big cats.

World Biofuel Day 2026 – August 10 
World Biofuel Day is observed annually across the world on 10 August to raise awareness about biofuels as renewable alternatives to fossil fuels, reduce dependence on conventional fuels, and lower Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
Background: 
Initiative:  Since 2015, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Government of India (GoI) has been observing World Biofuel Day to promote the use of blended biofuels in India.
India’s Scenario:  India is the third-largest oil consumer globally after the United States of America (USA) and China, making biofuel adoption important for reducing fossil fuel dependency.
Significance: The day commemorates Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel, who demonstrated his diesel engine powered by peanut oil (biofuel) on 10 August 1893 in Augsburg, Germany.
