President Droupadi Murmu Launches Various Initiatives At Rashtrapati Bhavan To Mark Four Years of Her Presidency
In July 2026, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, launched various initiatives at Rashtrapati Bhavan and the President’s Estates in New Delhi, Delhi to mark the completion of four years of her presidency.

  • Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President on July 25, 2022, making her the country’s first tribal head of state.
  • Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan released a set of five commemorative books highlighting President Droupadi Murmu’s four-year journey and presented the first copies to the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

MHA: Over 12,000 Registered Against Cyber Financial Fraud in 2025, Delhi Tops the List Among 18 States & UTs 
In July 2026, Union Minister of State (MoS) Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), informed the Lok Sabha (also, known as the House of the People) that over 12,000 Electronic Zero(e-Zero) First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against cyber financial fraud in 18 states and Union Territories (UTs) in 2025.

  • Among these all states and UTs, Delhi recorded the highest number of e-zero FIRs, with a total of  6,115 FIRs registered since May 2025, followed by UT Chandigarh with 4,174 FIRs (since November 2025).

About e-Zero FIRs:
State-wise Data: Uttarakhand has registered 552 FIRs (since March 2026), which is the 3rd highest number of e-Zero FIRs registered since its launch in 2025; followed by Goa (446, since January 2026); Rajasthan (251, since January 2026); Assam (223); Haryana (165); and Maharashtra (131).
Registration Process: Launched by the Government of India (GoI) in May 2025, the system enables cyber financial fraud victims to lodge complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or the 1930 helpline, which are forwarded to the concerned police station.

  • Complainants must visit the police station within 3 days to convert the e-Zero FIR into a regular FIR.

Tripura Signs 3 MoUs with NSE to Boost Financial Literacy, Skills and Investment
In July 2026, the Government of Tripura signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) to strengthen financial literacy, skill development, entrepreneurship, and investment awareness across the state.

  • The agreements were signed between the NSE and the State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD), Directorate of Industries and Commerce, and the Directorate of Skill Development in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Chief Minister(CM) of Tripura at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, Tripura.

Key Details of MoU:
Significance: The partnership makes SIPARD, Tripura one of the first government training institutions in India to establish a strategic collaboration with the NSE, promoting institutional capacity building and financial inclusion.
Key Areas of Collaboration: The MoUs focus on financial literacy, skill development, and investment promotion through investor awareness programmes, training and certification in banking and capital markets, and industry engagement to strengthen Tripura’s investment ecosystem and improve employability.
Implementation Support: NSE will fund the programme, while the Government of Tripura will provide the necessary training infrastructure and venues for its implementation.

CUK Signs MoU with IN to Foster Academic and Research Collaboration
In July 2026, the Central University of Kerala (CUK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Navy (IN) to strengthen collaboration in maritime studies, defence research, innovation, and strategic knowledge development.

  • The agreement was signed by V.B. Sameer, Registrar, CUK, and Commodore Kalesh Mohanan, Officer-in-Charge, Naval History Division (NHD), IN at the CUK campus in Kasaragod, Kerala.

Key Details of MoU:
Objective: The agreement aims to promote academic excellence, interdisciplinary research, knowledge sharing, and capacity building in areas of mutual interest, with a special emphasis on maritime studies and strategic research.
Focus: The MoU will focus on interdisciplinary research in emerging fields such as maritime technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, ocean sciences, environmental sustainability, logistics, and innovation.
Significance: The partnership establishes a platform between the central university and the IN to promote defence innovation, maritime security research, and initiatives aligned with national strategic priorities.

FSID and C-DOT Sign Agreement to Set Up Telecom CoE at IISc Bengaluru
In July 2026, the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru(Karnataka) to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for advanced telecom research focused on 5G, 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and quantum communication technologies.

  • The agreement was signed in the presence of Omprakash Subbarao, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FSID, and Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, in IISc, Bengaluru.

About CoE for Advanced Telecom Research:
Focus:  The CoE will support wireless communication research, prototype development, intellectual property (IP) creation and industry-academia collaboration.
C-DOT Network:  The IISc Bengaluru centre becomes C-DOT’s 5th CoE, following centres at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur(Uttar Pradesh, UP), IIT Gandhinagar(Gujarat), IIT Roorkee(Uttarakhand) and IIT Hyderabad(Telangana).
Significance:  The initiative will strengthen secure communication systems, bridge industry-academia collaboration, and promote innovation among startups, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and researchers.
About FSID:  Established in 2020, FSID is based at the IISc, Bengaluru, and is headed by Prof. G. Rangarajan,Director of IISc Bengaluru.

BIMCO-ICS Seafarer Workforce Report 2026: India Becomes World’s 2nd Largest Supplier of Seafarers 
In July 2026, According to the BIMCO-ICS Seafarer Workforce Report 2026,  released by the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), India became the world’s 2nd largest supplier of seafarers with 311,936 professionals, accounting for 12.16% of the global workforce, ranking after the Philippines and ahead of China, Russian Federation and Indonesia.

  • The maritime reforms and initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, along with efforts led by Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministry  of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), contributed to India’s emergence as the world’s second-largest supplier of seafarers.

Highlights of Seafarer Workforce Report 2026:
Growth Journey:  India’s maritime workforce improved  from the 5th position in 2015 with 5.2% global share to the 2nd position in 2026 with its contribution more than doubling over the decade and establishing India as a major maritime manpower hub.
Maritime Strength:   India contributes significanctly  to the global shipping industry, including 140,718 officers (13.41% of global officers) and 171,218 ratings (11.29% of global ratings) serving on merchant vessels.
Global Demand Scenario:  The BIMCO-ICS Seafarer Workforce Report 2026 estimates the global seafarer supply at 2.57 million against demand of 2.55 million, highlighting a shortage of qualified maritime professionals, especially officers.

BANKING & FINANCE

ADB Approves USD 850 Million Loan to Boost Rooftop Solar Rollout in India under PMSG-MBY
In July 2026, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved USD 850 million loan to support the Government of India (GoI)’s Prime Minister Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY) by accelerating rooftop solar adoption.
Key Details of Funding:
Background: Subprogram 2 builds on Subprogram 1, approved in November 2025, which established the policy, institutional, digital, financing, and market framework for large-scale rooftop solar deployment.
Financing Program:  The Subprogram 2 of the Accelerating Affordable and Inclusive Rooftop Solar Systems Development Program supports the PMSG-MBY.
Expected Outcomes: ADB’s latest financial support will help India in achieving its set target of 30 Giga-Watt (GW) of cumulative rooftop solar capacity by Financial Year 2026-27(FY27), reduce 28.8 Million Tonnes (MT) of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) equivalent emissions, and expand access to affordable solar energy.

NVIDIA, Microsoft, IBM and others launch Open Secure AI Alliance to strengthen AI security 
In July 2026, NVIDIA, Microsoft Corporation and International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), along with several technology companies and research institutions, launched the Open Secure AI Alliance (OSAA) an open industry initiative aimed at enhancing the security, trustworthiness, and resilience of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems through open collaboration and shared security standards.
About Open Secure AI Alliance (OSAA):
Objectives: The alliance aims to improve the security, transparency and reliability of AI systems, promote secure-by-design AI development, facilitate information sharing on AI-related threats and vulnerabilities, and encourage the adoption of common security standards across the AI ecosystem.
Key Driver for Launch: This new initiative was launched days after the latest cyber incident at Hugging Face, where through an AI system, the company’s infrastructure was breached during a security evaluation.
Alliance Members: The newly launched alliance comprises over 35 inaugural members spanning AI, cybersecurity, enterprise software, cloud computing and some of these are : Cisco, Dell Technologies, Cloudflare, Red Hat, Hugging Face, Salesforce, SAP, Service Now and the Linux Foundation, among others.
Key Role: The Alliances partners will contribute AI models, software, datasets and research to bolster cybersecurity and promote the adoption of AI across industries.
About NVIDIA: NVIDIA Corporation, founded in 1993, is a leading American technology company specializing in graphics processing units (GPUs), AI computing platforms and accelerated computing. It is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, United States of America(USA), and is led by Jensen Huang (President ).

ACC Appoints Satya Pal Kumar as Director of FIU – IND
In July 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) appointed Satya Pal Kumar, a 2005-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the Income Tax cadre, as the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) under the Department of Revenue (DoR), Ministry of Finance (MoF), as part of a Joint Secretary-level reshuffle.

  • He succeeded Pankaj Kumar Mishra (IRS, 1989 batch), who had served as Director of FIU-IND since May 2016.

Key Details of Appointment: 
Tenure: Satya Pal Kumar was appointed for a 5-year tenure at the rank of Joint Secretary to the Government of India (GoI). Prior to this appointment, he served as Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals), Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Significance: The appointment strengthens India’s financial intelligence framework to combat money laundering, terror financing, and suspicious financial transactions, supporting the country’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating Financing of Terrorism (CFT) framework.
About FIU-IND: Established in 2004 and headquartered in New Delhi, Delhi, FIU-IND analyses and disseminates information on suspicious financial transactions.

ACQUISITIONS & MERGERS

CCI Approves Merger of Go Digit Infoworks Services with GDGIL
In July 2026, the Competition Commission of India (CCI),  under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs(MoCA), approved the proposed merger of Go Digit Infoworks Services Private Limited (Infoworks), with Go Digit General Insurance Ltd. (GDGIL) (Digit General), a public limited company engaged in providing general and health insurance products and services across India.

  • The transaction marks the first merger between an insurance company and a non-insurance holding company under the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Act, 2025.

Key Details of Merger:
Merger Structure: Under the scheme, Go Digit Infoworks Services will be merged into Go Digit General Insurance, removing the holding company layer and enabling shareholders to hold shares directly in the insurance company.
Surviving Entity: As per CCI, GDGIL will remain the surviving entity, after the merger of Infoworks with the insurer.
Key Outcome: On the completion of the proposed transaction, FAL Corporation, part of Canadian Fairfax group, which operates in property and casualty insurance, reinsurance and investment management, will hold 57.28% stake in GDGIL.
About GDGIL: Established in December 2016, GDGIL is headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, and is backed by Fairfax Financial Holdings.

New Polypore Fungus Species Microporellus kolhapurensis Discovered in Maharashtra
In July 2026, researchers from Maharashtra discovered a new fungus species of polypore (bracket) named “Microporellus kolhapurensis” in Bhudargad taluka in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. The species was found growing on rotting wood in the Bediv area near the Ajra border and was named after Kolhapur district in recognition of its rich biodiversity.

  • The discovery was published in Nelumbo, the research journal of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI).

About Microporellus kolhapurensis:
Discovery: The new fungus species was discovered by Dr. Anjali Patil, Head of the Department of Botany at Rajaram College, Kolhapur, and research scholar Yogesh Patil during field studies in the Bediv area of Bhudargad taluka.
Fruiting Period: It mainly grows singly and fruits generally from July to September months.
Distinct Features: The yellowish-orange to grayish-brown species is different from other closely related fungus species due to its umbrella-shaped structure, lateral stalk, ground-growing nature, large pores, teardrop-shaped spores and unique thick-walled cystidia.
Significance: The discovery enriches the documented fungal diversity of the Western Ghats and Maharashtra. Researchers noted that only Microporellus obovatus had previously been recorded from Maharashtra, making this the second recorded species of the genus in the state. Worldwide, the genus Microporellus comprises about 36 recognised species.
About Botanical Survey of India (BSI): The Botanical Survey of India (BSI), established in 1890 and headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, is an attached office under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). It is responsible for the survey, documentation, conservation and research of India’s plant diversity.

World Nature Conservation Day 2026 – July 28 
World Nature Conservation Day (WNCD) is observed every year on 28 July to raise awareness about protecting natural resources, biodiversity and ecosystems.
Background: 
Origin: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated 28 July as WNCD following the 1972 United Nations (UN) Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, Sweden, marking a milestone in global environmental conservation.
Global Commitment: The observance reflects the outcomes of the 1972 Stockholm Conference, which also led to the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to strengthen global environmental protection efforts.
SDGs: The day supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Delhi Government Approves ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’ for Rs.2,500 Monthly Assistance to Women
In July 2026, the Delhi cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Rekha Gupta, approved the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’, to provide Rs.2,500 monthly financial assistance to eligible women, with a total budget outlay of Rs.5,110 crore for 2026-27.
About Delhi Lakshmi Yojana:
Registration & Disbursement: The online registration portal for the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana will be launched on 1 August 2026, with the first installment scheduled for 28 August 2026 on Raksha Bandhan.
Eligibility Criteria: As per the state government, women aged between 21 and 60 years, with an annual family income  of up to Rs 2.5 lakh, permanent residents of Delhi and have lived in the national capital for at least 10 years, are eligible for the scheme.
Exclusions: The 3-year scheme excludes women with more than three children, annual electricity usage above 2,400 units, income taxpayers, government employees and their family members, and those receiving pensions or financial assistance from other government schemes.
Disbursement Options: Beneficiaries can choose between 2 payment options: receive Rs. 1,500 in a Recurring Deposit (RD)/Fixed Deposit (FD) account and Rs. 1,000 in a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) digital rupee wallet, or receive the entire Rs. 2,500 in an RD/FD account.

Chhattisgarh Launches ‘DWEEPTI Yojana’ for Women-Led Solar Entrepreneurship 
In July 2026, the Chhattisgarh Government launched Decentralised Women Empowerment on Energy and Policy for Transformative Inclusion(DWEEPTI) Yojana, India’s first women-led distributed Renewable Energy(RE) policy to empower rural Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as solar entrepreneurs, targeting 5,000 enterprises and 50,000 green jobs.

  • It was developed by Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Chhattisgarh with Transform Rural India (TRI) under the Green Economy Transition Mission.

About DWEEPTI Yojana: 
Energy Access: The scheme aims to provide clean energy access to 5 lakh families and 10,000 public institutions across Chhattisgarh.
Implementation: 13 Cluster Level Federations (CLFs) across 12 districts have been registered as authorised vendors under Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) in partnership with Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL).
FImplementation: Kabirdham district became the first implementation site, where the Vande Mataram Cluster Level Federation was registered as an authorised solar vendor with support from Zila Panchayat Kabirdham (Bihan).
Support: With Tata’s technical support, around 35 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) were trained in rooftop solar installation, creating the first group of ‘Solar Didis’.

  • Flexible loans support SHG members in adopting solar solutions and building sustainable livelihoods under the Lakhpati Didi initiative.
