Union Minister Amit Shah Chaired 10th Apex Level Meeting of NCORD in New Delhi, Delhi
In June 2026, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Cooperation, chaired the 10th Apex-Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD), organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Key Launches:
Vision Document on Narcotics Control: The newly released vision document provides a comprehensive roadmap to curb the drug menace. It is structured around four key pillars i.e. Enforcement, Intelligence and Operations; Precursor and Synthetic Drug Control, Demand Reduction and Rehabilitation; and Capacity Building.
New Zonal Offices & NCB Annual Report: During the event, the Union Home Minister virtually inaugurated newly constructed NCB zonal offices in Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir, J&K) and Guwahati (Assam), aimed at strengthening enforcement capabilities in strategically important regions.
- In addition, the NCB Annual Report 2025 was released, which provides a comprehensive overview of the agency’s activities and achievements in combating narcotics-related crimes.
Nationwide Drug Disposal Campaign: It is a nationwide initiative aimed to destroy large quantities of seized narcotics, with the target of destroying nearly 2,09,500 kilograms (kgs) of drugs worth approximately Rs 6,000 crore.
Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar Leads Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah Rally in Haridwar
In June 2026, Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), led the valedictory event of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah (Drug-Free India Week)’ under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan” on 17–26 June 2026 at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (DSVV), Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
- A 10-day nationwide campaign organised by MSJE culminated on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (26 June 2026), with a rally of over 4,000 citizens.
About Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026:
Awareness Initiatives: The Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar administered the Pledge Against Drug Abuse and Ageing with Dignity Pledge, reaffirming commitment to a drug-free society and inclusive senior citizen care.
Agreements: Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE), MoSJE and Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Pariwar under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) or the Drug-Free India Campaign launched on 15 August 2020 by MoSJE and Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), to strengthen awareness, community mobilisation, drug demand reduction, and senior citizen welfare.
GBU, GNIDA, Space Kidz India & IN-SPACe Join Hands to Support Mission ShakthiSAT
In June 2026, Gautam Buddha University (GBU) entered into strategic partnership with Space Kidz India and Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) to support Mission ShakthiSAT, the world’s first all girls international lunar mission, aimed at advancing space technology, STEM education, and women led leadership in space.
Mission ShakthiSAT:
Objective: It is an international student space initiative that aims to empower 12,000 young girls from 108 countries through hands-on exposure to satellite development, space technology, research innovation, and foster global scientific collaboration.
Key Role: The GBU as a key academic and institutional partner, will support the mission activities through research, innovation, interdisciplinary learning, and scientific engagement, while Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) will provide institutional support to the mission.
Selection of Indian Student: In a major development, Indian student Mahima Rajput (Raipur, Chhattisgarh)has been selected for the international space mission.
Gujarat Police Signs MoU with Bharat Taxi to Enhance Public Safety and Urban Mobility
In June 2026, Gujarat Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the multi-state cooperative society Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (Bharat Taxi) to strengthen public safety, traffic management, and urban mobility through digital integration.
- The agreement was signed during the launch of Bharat Taxi in Gandhinagar, Gujarat in the presence of Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) and Minister of Cooperation.
Key Details:
Integration: As part of the initiative, an SOS emergency response system will be integrated into the Bharat Taxi mobile application (app), enabling passengers to seek immediate assistance during emergencies.
Mandatory KYC: As part of the agreement, it is mandatory for all drivers to undergo official police verification i.e. Know Your Customer (KYC) by Gujarat Police.
Key Role: Gujarat Police has been tasked to provide support in maintaining law and order, conducting driver verification and extending control room assistance.
- Bharat Taxi will be responsible for managing and operating the digital platform.
MoUs with Institutions: Bharat Taxi also exchanged MoUs with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) (Rajkot, Surat & Vadodara), Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC), Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)/Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Gujarat State Cooperative Bank (GSC Bank), Adani Airport, Gujarat Traffic Police, and Western Railway–Ahmedabad Division.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launched AI-enabled Rural Internal Audit Portal
In June 2026, Union Minister Shivarj Singh Chouhan, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled Rural Internal Audit portal, a digital platform designed to enhance financial oversight, audit efficiency, and governance across various MoRD-led programmes.
Key Details of Portal:
Unified Portal: It is a first-of-its-kind unified AI-enabled platform that integrates audit planning, execution, reporting, compliance management, monitoring into a single digital interface, thereby improving transparency and accountability in government spending.
Developed by: The portal, conceptualized by the Office of the Chief Controller of Accounts (CCA) and developed in partnership with National Informatics Centre (NIC).

- Shortlisted schools are evaluated by an independent Judging Academy of global education experts, with the top three finalists and category winners to be announced in November 2026, while the Community Choice Award is decided through a public vote.

Two Indian Women Conservationists Won 2026 Green Oscar Awards
In June 2026, two Indian women conservationists, Parveen Sheikh and Barkha Subba, among 6 who were honoured with 2026 Whitley Award often known as “Green Oscar” in recognition of their exemplary work in protecting Endangered (EN) species.
- The awards were officially presented by Princess Anne, at the Royal Geographical Society in London, the United Kingdom (UK).
Key Details:
Parveen Sheikh: She was recognised for her community-led conservation efforts to protect the EN Skimmer along India’s river systems. Sheikh in partnership with the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), launched the “Guardians of the Skimmer” initiative on the Chambal river.
- Her efforts resulted in the increase of the Skimmer population from about 400 birds (in 2017) to nearly 1,000 birds, while nest survival rates improved significantly.
Barkha Subba: She is a conservationist from the Darjeeling Himalayas, works with the Federation to protect the rare Himalayan salamander and its fragile wetland.
- Her project titled “Survivor of a Lost World: Saving the Himalayan Salamander and its Wetlands”, focuses on restoration of critical breeding wetlands, removal of invasive species, and tracking of amphibian diseases, and involvement of local communities in conservation efforts.
Green Oscar: The award, presented annually by Whitley Fund Nature (WFN), aims to recognise grassroots conservation efforts.
- Each winner receives £ 50,000 in project funding over one year.
- However, in 2020, WFN introduced continuation funding for nature-based solutions i.e. up to £ 100,000 over two years.
Other Key Winners: Moreangels Mbizah (Zimbabwe); Issah Seidu (Ghana); Marina Kameni (Cameroon); Paola Sangolqui (Ecuador) and Farwiza Farhan (Whitely Gold Award).

Indian Coast Guard commissions Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Akshay in Goa
In June 2026, Indian Coast Guard (ICG), also known as ‘Bharatiya Tatrakshak‘, commissioned Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Akshay, the fourth indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in the eight-vessel Adamya-class series designed and constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Goa.
- The ship was commissioned into service by Parama Sen, Additional Secretary (Personnel), Department of Expenditure (DoE), Ministry of Finance (MoF) during a ceremony held at GSL’s facility in Vasco da Gama, Goa.
Key Details of Vessel:
Operational Command: Deepak Choubey, Commandant (Junior Grade) will command the ICGS Akshay, manned by 6 officers and 35 sailors.
Operations: ICGS Akshay will strengthen maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, coastal security, marine environmental protection, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance and assistance to mariners in distress.
ISRO Successfully Conducts Test Trial of Next-Generation Rocket Engine at Record Thrust Level
In June 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted a hot test of the Semi-Cryogenic Engine Power Head Test Article (PHTA) at 88% of its target thrust (175 tonnes) at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPC) at Mahendragiri, in Tamil Nadu (TN).
Key Details of Test:
8th in Series: As per ISRO, this marked the 8th one in a series of hot tests using PHTA. Previously, test trials had been conducted at 47% and 60% of full thrust, equivalent to 94 and 120 tonnes respectively.
Key Engine: SE2000, produces 2,000 kilonewtons (KN) of thrust, will power a new propulsion stage known as the ‘SC120’ which is further expected to replace the L110 core stage of the Launch Vehicle Mark III (LVM3) rocket.
Significance: The advanced stage is projected to increase the launch vehicle’s payload capacity and enhance operational efficiency and would use liquid oxygen and kerosene-based fuel.
Semi–cryogenic: It refers to the condition that only one of two propellants (liquid oxygen) needs to be stored at extremely low temperatures.

Ethan Vaz and Harshavardhan G.B Become India’s 96th and 97th Chess Grandmasters
In June 2026, 14-year-old International Master (IM) Ethan Vaz from Goa, became India’s 96th Chess Grandmaster (GM) after securing his final Grandmaster (GM) norm at the Sarajevo GM Mix Tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina, winning the event with an unbeaten 7/9 score, a 2643 tournament performance rating, and finishing ahead of 10 GMs.

Overview: 22-year-old Harshavardhan G.B. from Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN) became India’s 97th GM by earning his final GM norm at the 2nd Chola Chess GM Norm Round Robin Tournament in Chennai, TN, further strengthening India’s presence in world chess.
Norms: He earned his three GM norms by winning Asian Junior Chess Championship (2022) in Philippines with an unbeaten 7/9 score, finishing 9th at the Asian Continental Championship (2025) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a 2634 Tournament Performance Rating (TPR) to qualify for his first FIDE World Cup, and finishing runner-up at the 2nd Chola Chess GM Norm Round Robin Tournament (2026) with an unbeaten 6.5/9 score and 2620 TPR.
England Test Captain Ben Stokes Announces Retirement from International Cricket

National Insurance Awareness Day 2026- June 28
National Insurance Awareness Day is observed annually on 28 June to promote awareness about the importance of insurance as a financial tool that provides protection to individuals, families, and businesses against financial risks.
Evolution of Insurance in India:
Modern Beginning: The Oriental Life Insurance Company, established in 1818 at Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal(WB).
First Legislation: The Indian Life Assurance Companies Act, 1912 was India’s first law regulating the life insurance business.
Sector Reforms: The Insurance (Amendment) Act, 1950 abolished principal agencies and introduced greater competition among insurers.
Nationalisation: In 1956, the Government of India (GoI) nationalised the life insurance sector, establishing the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) under the LIC Act, 1956 by merging 245 insurers.
Regulator: Based on the Malhotra Committee recommendations, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) was constituted in 1999 and became a statutory body in April 2000.
Capital Norms: As per IRDAI (2025), the minimum paid-up equity capital is Rs.100 crore for Life, General, and Health insurers, and Rs.200 crore for Reinsurance companies.
