In June 2026, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPS&W) unveiled a development pipeline of 63 projects valued at Rs 5,028.17 crore (Cr) at the 154th foundation day of the Mumbai Port Authority (MPA) in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Foundation Day Highlights:
Theme: The Foundation Day celebrations were held under the theme “Together We Can“.
Project Details: The projects comprise:
- Seven inaugurated projects worth Rs 132.29 Cr,
- 34 foundation stone-laying projects worth Rs 1,354.59 Cr and
- 22 newly announced projects worth Rs 3,541.29 Cr
Agreements: The programme also witnessed the exchange of agreements for the Indira Dock Operations and Maintenance Project and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Project.
BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting 2026 Held in New Delhi, Delhi
In June 2026, the 16th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) National Security Advisers’ (NSA) Meeting was held in New Delhi, Delhi, on 22-23 June 2026 under India’s BRICS Chairship, chaired by Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor of India (NSA), to strengthen cooperation on regional and global security issues.
- The meeting was held under the theme “Non-Traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today”.

HOSA Meeting 2026: The BRICS Heads of Space Agencies (HOSA) meeting was held in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on 23–24 June 2026, hosted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Department of Space (DoS) with support from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) with participation from all BRICS members.
Energy Ministers’ Meeting: The 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting was held on 25 June 2026 in Gurugram, Haryana, under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 with the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” and the Energy Track theme “Energy for All” .
MSME Forum: The First BRICS Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Forum and Third Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Working Group Meeting were held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh (UP) under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.
MoCA and Delhi International Airport Launch ‘Air Suvidha 2.0’ portal
In June 2026, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) jointly launched ‘AIR SUVIDHA 2.0’, an upgraded contactless Passenger Health Self-Declaration (PHSD) portal, to strengthen public health surveillance at points of entry.
- It was launched following the World Health Organization (WHO)’s declaration of the Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) under the International Health Regulations (IHR), 2005.
About Air Suvidha 2.0 Portal:
Developed by: The portal was developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW).
Self Declaration: Through this portal, the international arriving passengers are required to submit an online health Self-Declaration Form (SDF) covering 21-day travel history, exposure history and any related symptoms, before immigration clearance.
Timeline: Passengers can complete the SDF up to 24 hours in advance before arrival to India and have been advised to fill the form before or during web check-in.
Integrated Multi-Agencies: The portal provides real-time data sharing with multiple agencies that include: Airport Health Officers (APHOs), Bureau of Immigration (BoI), Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) and State Surveillance Officers.
MoSPI Signs SoI with GRAAM for Embark India Development Fellowship Proposal
In June 2026, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM) signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to engage two fellows under the Embark India Development Fellowship (EIDF) proposal.
- The agreement was formally signed by Dr. Basavaraju R. Shreshta, Executive Director (ED) of GRAAM, and Prasoon Verma, Director of the Training Unit, Capacity Development Division (CDD), MoSPI, in New Delhi, Delhi.
About Embark India Development Fellowship (EIDF):
Overview: GRAAM’s flagship fellowship supports the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision by placing fellows in MoSPI to promote evidence-based policymaking and institutional capacity building.
Objective: Fellows will undertake research-driven assignments and develop innovative solutions for public policy, data governance, capacity building, and programme implementation.
Structure: The 18-months programme features 6-month institutional placements with hands-on training, mentorship by national experts.
Monthly Stipend: Under this fellowship programme, each selected fellow will receive the monthly stipend of Rs 65,000.

In June 2026, 35 nations, including India, signed a Statement on Artificial Intelligence (AI), the United States of America (USA)-led initiative that aims to build trusted and resilient supply chains to support AI technologies, at the 2nd Pax Silica Summit held from June 25 to June 26, 2026 in Washington D.C., the USA.
- The two-day long summit was hosted by Jacob Helberg, Secretary of Economic Affairs, the US Department of State.
Key Details:
Indian Representation: At the summit, the Indian delegation was led by S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), along with representatives from Indian industry.
Expansion: On the sidelines of the summit, the initiative was joined by countries like: Argentina, Germany, the Netherlands, Chile, Costa Rica, Greece, Kazakhstan, Panama, and the European Union (EU).

RBI Releases RBI (Credit Derivatives) Directions, 2026, Expands Risk Management Tools
In June 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued the “Master Directions – RBI (Credit Derivatives) Directions, 2026”, aimed at deepening India’s corporate bond market and expanding the range of risk-management tools available to market participants.
- These Directions have been issued by the RBI in exercise of the powers conferred under section 45W of the RBI Act, 1934, with effect from 25 June 2026.
Revised Framework:
New Products: The direction introduces new products such as Total Return Swaps (TRS) linked to corporate bonds and derivatives on credit indices.
Eligible Participants: The following persons shall be eligible to participate in credit derivatives market: Residents and Person resident outside India
Committee: To support the market’s development, the RBI has mandated the creation of a Credit Derivatives Determinations Committee under FIMMDA (Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India).
jUMPP Secured NPCI Approval to Operate as TPAP, Enabling UPI Services
In June 2026, jUMPP, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven fintech platform, secured the approval from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate as Third Party Application Provider (TPAP).
- The approval enables the company to integrate Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment capabilities within its application (app).

P2P Services: With the integration of UPI, the platform will enable the users to make Peer-to-Peer (P2P) transfers, merchant payments, bill payments, and recharges directly through its app.

LEXI Receives In-Principle Approval from IFSCA to Operate as PSP at GIFT-IFSC
In June 2026, LEXI Money IFSC(International Financial Services Centre) Private Limited (LEXI), an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Powered trade and payments platform, received in-principle approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to operate as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City International Financial Services Centre (GIFT-IFSC) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Key Details of Approval:
Approval: With this, LEXI joins a select group of fintech companies licensed to deliver cross-border payment services from GIFT IFSC.
Objective: The approval aims to strengthen AI-powered cross-border payment infrastructure and simplify international trade for Indian exporters.
Regulatory Milestone: The in-principle approval marks the first regulatory stage, with LEXI required to obtain the Certificate of Authorisation (CoA) from IFSCA before commencing operations at GIFT IFSC.
About GIFT-IFSC: Established in 2015 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, GIFT IFSC is India’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).
Paisabazaar and SBM Bank India Launch SBM Paisabazaar Paisa+ Credit Card
In June 2026, Paisabazaar, India’s largest financial marketplaces, in partnership with SBM Bank (India) Limited, launched the “SBM Paisabazaar Paisa+ Credit Card”, a Fixed Deposit (FD)-backed secured credit card.
- The newly launched credit card is designed to help consumers to build their credit profile, while earning cashback on daily spends.
Key Details:
FD Interest: The new credit card offers a FD starting from Rs 2,000 and users can earn interest rates up to 7% per annum (p.a.) on their FDs.
Cashback Offers: One of the key benefits of the credit card is that it provides various cashback offers such as: 1.5% cashback on online spends for FDs above Rs 10,000.
- Also, 1.0% cashback on offline spends and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions above Rs 2,000, irrespective of the deposit amount.

Five-Time World Champion Viswanathan Anand Conferred SJFI Gold Medal
In June 2026, Viswanathan Anand, India’s first Chess Grandmaster (GM) and Deputy President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), was conferred the Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) Gold Medal for his exceptional contribution to Indian chess and outstanding achievements in the sport.

ACC Appoints Mahesh Dixit as Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB)
In June 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, approved the appointment of Mahesh Dixit, a 1993-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Andhra Pradesh (AP) cadre, as the next Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s premier internal intelligence agency for two years.
- He will succeed Tapan Kumar Deka, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh (HP) cadre, who has served as Director of the IB since July 2022 and whose second extended tenure is scheduled to end on 30 June 2026.
Highlights of the Appointment:
Background: Mahesh Dixit, currently Special Director and second-in-command of the IB, qualified as a medical doctor before joining the IPS and was promoted as Additional Director in 2022 and Special Director in 2024.
Awards: He has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2016), the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2009), and the Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak (2004).

IAF Receives Final Operational Clearance for Indigenous AEW&C System ‘Netra’
In June 2026, the Indian Air Force (IAF) received Final Operational Clearance (FOC) from Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) for the indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control(AEW&C) System ‘Netra’ to strengthen India’s airborne surveillance, battle management and network-centric warfare capabilities.
- The induction ceremony, held in Bengaluru, Karnataka was presided over by Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (DCAS).
About AEW&C system Netra:
Background: The Netra programme was initiated in 2003 as a joint initiative of the IAF and the DRDO to develop an indigenous airborne surveillance system.
- In 2004, the Government of India (GoI) sanctioned the project, with the Centre for Air Borne Systems (CABS) designated as the lead laboratory.
- IAF received Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) in 2017.
Airframe Base: Netra AEW&C is integrated on the Brazilian modified twin-engine Embraer EMB-145I aircraft platform, equipped with in-flight refueling probes and advanced thermal cooling systems.
Features: Netra can detect, track, identify and monitor airborne and maritime targets, secure data links smaller footprint than AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System), enhancing the network-centric operations capabilities by replacing legacy radios with high-capability Software Defined Radar (SDR) radios.
Capabilities: Its radar array delivers a detection range of 240 – 300 kilometer(km).

- Purple is the awareness colour for World Vitiligo Day, symbolising hope, awareness, and solidarity with people living with vitiligo.

Background:
Origin: The idea of WVD was initiated by Steve Haragadon, Founder of Vitiligo Friends Network, and formalized by Ogo Maduewesi, Founder and Executive Director of the Vitiligo Support and Awareness Foundation (VITSAF), Nigeria, in 2011, with global coordination by the Vitiligo Research Foundation (VRF), United States of America (USA).
First Observance: The first World Vitiligo Day was observed on 25 June 2011 in memory of Michael Jackson, who had vitiligo and passed away on 25 June 2009.
2026 Events: World Vitiligo Day 2026 event is being held from 25–28 June 2026 at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, marking the global event’s return to Chandigarh after 12 years.
Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas 2026 – June 25
Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas (Constitution Murder Day) is observed annually across India on 25 June to commemorate the declaration of the Emergency in 1975, honour those who suffered during its imposition, and reaffirm the importance of safeguarding India’s Constitution and democratic values.
- 25 June 2026 marks the 51st anniversary of the declaration of the National Emergency in India on 25 June 1975 and 3rd observance of Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas.
Background:
Emergency: On 25 June 1975, then Prime Minister (PM) Indira Gandhi invoked Article 352 of the Constitution of India, and the Emergency was proclaimed by then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed on her advice, citing “internal disturbances”, remaining in force for 21 months until 21 March 1977.
Designation: The day was officially designated as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) in 2024.
Observance: The first official observance of Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas was held on 25 June 2024.
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026 – June 26
The United Nations (UN’s) International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, is observed every year across the world on 26 June to strengthen global action and cooperation against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

World Drug Report 2026: On 26 June 2026, CND officially launched the UNODC World Drug Report 2026 at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Austria.
