MHA agency launches 2 portals to prevent cybercrimes, ensure justice for victims
In June 2026, The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has launched two new portals Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) and the Money Restoration Module (MRM) to streamline direct operational coordination among police forces, banking networks, and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).

  • The update emerged during a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, MHA on the functioning of the national cybercrime helpline 1930.

About Grievance Redressal Mechanism Portal:
Objective: GRM module was introduced to address complaints from account holders whose bank accounts were frozen, placed under lien, or put on hold due to suspicious transactions flagged during cybercrime investigations.

About Money Restoration Module Portal:

Objective: MRM portal is designed to provide a convenient mechanism for victims of cyber financial fraud to seek the return of money that has been frozen or recovered after filing a complaint.

16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting Adopts ‘Indore Declaration’ in Indore, MP
In June 2026, The 16th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting was held on 12–13 June 2026 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh (MP), under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability (BRICS)”under India’s BRICS Presidency.

  • The meeting concluded with the unanimous adoption of the Indore Declaration, establishing four major agricultural cooperation platforms for agricultural cooperation among member countries.

About BRICS Indore Declaration:
Priorities: The declaration is built around four key priorities, food security, nutrition & livelihoods; agricultural trade & cooperation; regenerative, climate-resilient & sustainable agriculture; and partnerships for innovation and investment to build future-ready agriculture & food systems.
Institutions: The four major establishments are the BRICS Network of Centres of Excellence (CoE) on Agroecology and Regenerative Agriculture; the Network on Digital Agriculture; the Global Forum on Farmers’ Rights in Seed Systems; and the BRICS AGRIN (Agro-Inputs, Genetic Resources and Information Network) Framework.

GoI Constitutes Search-cum-Selection Committee for NSB under Dr. T.V. Somanathan
In June 2026, the Government of India (GoI) constituted a Search-cum-Selection Committee under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan, to recommend names for the chairperson and members of the National Sports Board (NSB), a key body formed  under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025.

  • This move initiates the process of setting up the NSB which will serve as the apex body for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies and ensuring compliance with governance, financial and ethical norms.

About Search-cum-Selection Committee:
Composition: The newly constituted committee will include members, including Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS);  Lieutenant (Lt.) Gen (Retd) Harpal Singh, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) nominee and sports administrator and renowned Olympic Shooter Gagan Narang and N. Kunjurani Devi.
Key Functions: The committee has been mandated to prepare a list of candidates for the posts of chairperson and two members of the board from among individuals who have experience in public administration, sports governance, sports law and related fields.

GeM and CSC-SPV Signed MoU to Expand Procurement Access via 50 GSKs
In June 2026, the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), India’s National Public Procurement Portal under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoCI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Common Service Centre e-Governance Services India Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (CSC-SPV) in New Delhi, Delhi to improve government procurement access, in rural and underserved areas.

  • The MoU was signed by Ajit B. Chavan, Additional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GeM, and Subodh Mishra, Senior Vice President (SVP) of CSC-SPV.

Highlights of the MoU:
Facilitation: The new framework will support Vendor Assessment, Brand Approval, and Product & Service Catalogue Creation to help sellers become active on the GeM platform.
GeM Suvidha Kendras:  Under the partnership, 50 GeM Suvidha Kendras (GSKs) will be established on a pilot basis through the CSC network across Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Gujarat, Tamil Nadu (TN), Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and West Bengal (WB)  to support seller onboarding and participation on the GeM platform.
Beneficiaries:  The centres will provide registration, training, and onboarding support to Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), women entrepreneurs, startups, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), artisans, weavers, and other small businesses.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Launches Smart Warehousing System to Monitor real-time operations via AI 
In June 2026, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD), launched the Smart Warehousing System for foodgrain storage at a ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • This newly launched system is designed to monitor inventory and operations on a real-time basis, using advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT)-based technologies.

About Smart Warehousing:
Deployment: Currently, the new system has been implemented across 215 bag-based foodgrain warehouses of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), while the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is planning to deploy the system in an additional 150 warehouses by October 2026.
Technologies: The newly launched smart warehousing system combines advanced technologies such as Fast Electronic Toll Collection (FASTag) and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based gate automation, intelligent access control through geo-tagged smart locks, AI-enabled bag counting, face recognition systems, among others.
Significance:This technology-driven system is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency by reducing vehicle Turnaround Time (TAT), enhancing transparency, strengthening compliance monitoring, improving manpower productivity, enabling early hazard detection and providing real-time visibility of warehouse operations.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Slovakia in June 2026
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi undertook official visit to Slovakia in June 2026, focusing on strategic cooperation, innovation, technology partnerships on global issues.

  • He visited Slovakia from June 14 to June 16, 2026.
  • During his Europe tour, PM Modi participated at the 52nd Group-7 (G-7) summit held in Evian-les-Bains, France.

Slovakia’s Highest Honor: During his visit to Slovakia, PM Modi was honoured with “The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class)”, Slovakia’s highest national award, presented by Peter Pellegrini, President of Slovakia in Bratislava. This marked PM Modi’s 33rd global honour during his 12 years long tenure as PM of India.
Comprehensive Partnership: One of the key outcomes of PM Modi visit to Slovakia was the elevation of bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership (CP).
Counter-terrorism: India and Slovakia have agreed to establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism.
Consular Dialogue: Apart from establishing JWG on counter-terrorism, they have also agreed to launch a Consular Dialogue mechanism to strengthen cooperation in consular matters.
ICCR Chair in AI: Both countries announced the establishment of the first-ever ICCR Chair in AI at the Technical University of Kosice in Slovakia.
Overview: Following the bilateral talks held between PM Modi and his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, both countries formalized 11 key agreements to expand bilateral cooperation in areas: skill mobility, defence, higher education, emerging technologies (like in AI and quantum), among others.

WEF’s Energy Transition Index 2026 : Sweden Leads Global Rankings, India at 70th
In June 2026, World Economic Forum (WEF) released its annual report titled “Energy Transition Index(ETI 2026): Insight Report June 2026”. India jumped to 2 places in ETI 2026 ranking i.e. to 70th spot with an overall score of 54.9 (up by 1.9% over 2025), emerging  as one of the top gainers in the index.

  • Sweden topped the ETI 2026 with a score of 75.3, followed by Finland in second place with 74.1 points and Denmark in third place with a score of 72.6.

Published by: For the last 16 years, WEF in collaboration with Accenture, has been publishing the ETI.
Global Investment: Global energy transition readiness declined by 0.76%, marking its first drop in over a decade, despite total energy investments reaching USD 3.3 trillion, including USD 2.3 trillion in clean energy.
Other countries in Top 10: Estonia ranked 4th in the WEF ETI 2026 with a score of 70.9, followed by Norway at 5th with 70.5, Switzerland at 6th with 70.2, Latvia at 7th with 70.0, Austria at 8th with 69.7, Germany at 9th with 69.6, and France at 10th with 68.3.
Bottom 5 Countries: The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) ranked last (120th) with a score of 39.8, followed by Botswana (119th, 41.8), Jamaica (118th, 43.6), and Yemen and Mongolia, which shared the next lowest scores of 45.3, ranking 117th and 116th, respectively.

BANKING & FINANCE

ADB Partners with SIL for USD 10 Mn to Expand Digital Education Infrastructure in India
In June 2026, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a USD 10 million (Mn) financing package with Schoolnet India Limited (SIL) to improve learning outcomes in government schools across the country.
Schoolnet Digital Learning Project Details
Objective: The initiative aims to scale up digital learning infrastructure in 30,000 government schools, directly benefiting 45 Mn students.

  • The investment focuses heavily on human capital alongside hardware.

Implementation: Under this project, computer laboratories will be installed in at least 1000 government schools.

  • The programme will also establish 58,000 digital classrooms and train at least 56,000 educators in digital teaching methods.

Funding Infrastructure: The funding structure includes a USD 5 Mn loan from LEAP 2(Leading Asia’s Private Infrastructure Fund).

  • This fund is managed by ADB and capitalized by a USD 1.5 billion (Bn) commitment from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

BITS Pilani-Axis Bank Signed Agreement to Establish Rs 100 Crore Innovation Park in Hyderabad 
In June 2026, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani and Axis Bank Limited signed an agreement to establish the Axis Bank-BITS Industry Research, Technology and Innovation Park at BITS Pilani’s Hyderabad Campus in Hyderabad, Telangana.

  • The project, backed by a Rs 100 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) grant from Axis Bank, aims to strengthen India’s innovation, deep-tech and translational research ecosystem through structured industry-academia partnerships.

About the 100 Crore Innovation Park:
Focus: The park will focus on Life Sciences, Biopharma, Healthcare, Medical Devices, and Deep-Tech Innovation, promoting research-driven solutions with societal impact. 
Infrastructure:  Spread across approximately 1.2 lakh square feet (sq ft), the facility will house laboratories, incubation centres, and shared research facilities to support researchers, startups, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through collaborative innovation.
Technology: The initiative will promote technology transfer, Intellectual Property (IP) management, product development, and commercialization of innovations by enabling collaboration among academia, biotechnology companies, healthcare innovators, and research institutions.

RBI Approves Extension of Keki Mistry’s as Interim Chairman of HDFC Bank
In June 2026, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the extension of Keki Mistry’s tenure as Interim Part-Time Chairman of HDFC Bank Limited for a period of three months. The approval allows him to continue in the position until 18 September 2026.

  • He succeeded Atanu Chakraborty as Interim Part-Time Chairman of HDFC Bank on 19 March 2026

About Keki Mistry: 
Appointment:  He was appointed as the Interim Part-Time Chairman of HDFC Bank with effect from 19 March 2026, after receiving Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approval for an initial tenure of three months until 19 June 2026.
Previous Roles: He previously served as the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HDFC Limited and later as Vice Chairman of HDFC Bank Limited.
RBI Cancels Licence of Shree Mahalaxmi Urban Co-operative Credit Bank:
The RBI has cancelled the licence of Shree Mahalaxmi Urban Co-operative Credit Bank, Gokak, Karnataka, in June 2026 due to inadequate capital and earning prospects and failed to comply with certain provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

ACC Approves Saibal Chattopadhyay’s Appointment as NSC Chairperson
In June 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Saibal Chattopadhyay, former director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta, West Bengal (WB), as chairperson of the National Statistical Commission (NSC), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) .

  • Alongside the new chief, Shubhabrata Das, Satyendra Bahadur Singh, and Madhavan Mukund have been appointed as part-time members to restore the full operational strength of NSC.

About National Statistical Commission(NSC):
Overview: The Government of India (GoI) established the NSC through a resolution dated 1 June 2005, and it came into effect on 12 July 2006 based on the recommendations of the Rangarajan Commission (2001).
Structure: The commission is structured with a part-time Chairperson, four part-time technical members, one permanent ex-officio member, and a Secretary.
Role & Functions: The NSC formulates policies and standards for India’s statistical system, promotes quality, transparency and public trust in official statistics, ensures coordination among central and state agencies, and oversees statistical audits to maintain the integrity and reliability of statistical data.

Indian Jurist Bimal N. Patel elected UN’s ITLOS Tribunal Judge for 2026-2035 Term
In June 2026, renowned Indian jurist Bimal N. Patel has been elected as a judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS)  for the 2026-2035 term.

  • He will officially take over the office on October 1, 2026, succeeding Neeru Chadha, whose 9-year long term expires in September 2026.

Key Details:
Election: Bimal N. Patel was elected during the 36th Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), held at the UN Headquarters in New York, the United States of America (USA).
Total New Judges Elected: Among 172 signatories of UNCLOS,  7 new judges, representing India, Vietnam, Ghana, Tunisia, Russia, Brazil and the Netherlands, were elected for 2026-2035 term.

Indian Coast Guard Inducts First of Six Indigenous Air Cushion Vehicle in Goa 
In June 2026, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) inducted ‘H-561’, the first of six indigenous Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs), commonly known as a hovercraft, at its Rassaim facility in Goa, strengthening its maritime surveillance, search-and-rescue, and coastal security capabilities.
About Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV):
Background: On 24 October 2024, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a Rs.387.44 crore contract with Chowgule & Company Pvt Ltd for the procurement of six indigenously manufactured ACVs under the Buy (Indian) category, boosting ICG capabilities while promoting domestic shipbuilding expertise and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector growth.
Overview: ACV is an amphibious platform designed and constructed in India for ICG that operates on a cushion of air, enabling movement across water, land, mud, marshes, sand, ice, beaches, and other challenging surfaces.
Developer: The vessel, developed by Chowgule & Company Private Limited, highlights India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

KSSL Unveils Simha 4×4 Armoured Vehicle at Eurosatory 2026, in Paris, France 
In June 2026, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), the defence arm of Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), in partnership with Paramount Group (South Africa), unveiled the Simha 4×4 Light Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (LAMPV) at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, France.

  • The modular platform is designed for reconnaissance, urban warfare, troop transport, border surveillance, internal security operations, command-and-control roles and special missions.

About Simha 4×4 Light Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (LAMPV):
Design: The Simha 4×4 features an ab initio modular design developed from the ground up, enabling future upgrades, mission-specific customization, and efficient maintenance, repair, and overhaul support.
Features: The platform incorporates a modular architecture, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)-qualified components, enhanced mobility, protection systems, and customizable mission modules for diverse operational requirements.
Manufacturing: It supports rapid industrialization, localization, and sovereign manufacturing in partner countries while combining protection, mobility, modularity, and affordability.
About Eurosatory 2026: Eurosatory is a premier biennial international exhibition for land and air-land defence and security systems, held from 15–19 June 2026 in Paris, France, showcasing advanced land and air-land defence technologies.

Scientists Discovered New Lynx Spider Species Hamataliwa mawlyngot in Meghalaya 
In June 2026, Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the University of Calcutta (Kolkata, West Bengal, WB), discovered and described a new lynx spider species, Hamataliwa mawlyngot, from Mawlyngot village, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, marking the first recorded presence of the genus Hamataliwa in the state and extending its known distribution across Asia.

  • The findings were published in the journal National Academy Science Letters. 

About Hamataliwa mawlyngot:
Overview: It belongs to the family Oxyopidae, found inhabiting dense vegetation on Molucca brambles along the biodiverse hillside slopes of Mawlyngot, known for its tea plantations.
Characteristics: The species is an extremely small lynx spider, smaller than a fingernail, that hunts prey using speed, agility, and sharp vision rather than constructing webs.
Ecological Role: As a predator of insects, the species contributes to ecosystem balance and serves as a natural biological control agent that may help reduce agricultural pest populations.
Significance of the Discovery: The study, authored by Souvik Sen, Upasana Bhattacharya, and Puthoor Pattammal Sudhin, expands the known distribution of the lynx spider genus Hamataliwa beyond its earlier records from southern India, China, and Southeast Asia, helping bridge a key geographical gap in its range.

World Autistic Pride Day 2026 – June 18 
World Autistic Pride Day is observed annually on 18 June to promote self-advocacy, acceptance, and neurodiversity while encouraging inclusion and equal recognition of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  

  • 2026 Theme: “ Acceptance, inclusion, and autistic identity”

Background:
Origin:  The first Autistic Pride Day was observed in 2005 in Brazil, initiated by Aspies For Freedom (AFF).
Leadership:  The observance is led by autistic individuals and inspired by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and more(LGBTQIA+) pride movement, emphasizing self-representation and inclusion.
WHA Resolution:  In 2004, the World Health Assembly (WHA) adopted a resolution on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), calling for comprehensive and coordinated global efforts to address ASD.
Symbol:  The Rainbow Infinity Symbol represents infinite diversity and the unique strengths of autistic individuals.

International Picnic Day 2026 – June 18 
International Picnic Day is observed annually across the globe on 18 June to celebrate the joy of picnicking by encouraging people to enjoy outdoor meals with family and friends, fostering relaxation, community bonding, and a deeper connection with nature
Background:
Origins: The roots of International Picnic Day trace back to the French Revolution (1789–1799), during which France’s royal parks were opened to the public.

About Picnic Day:
Etymology: The word ‘picnic’ derives from the 17th-century French term pique-nique, referring to informal gatherings where participants contributed food, drinks, or dishes for shared consumption.
Record: According to the Guinness World Records (GWR), the world’s largest picnic was held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 20 June 2009, attracting over 22,000 participants and featuring a picnic line stretching over 600 meters (m).
