CCEA Approved 4 Major National Highway Projects Worth Over Rs 24,249 Crore Across 4 States
In June 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi approved 4 major National Highway (NH) projects worth Rs 24,249 crore across 4 states: Odisha, Telangana, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh (MP).
- These newly approved projects spanning over 700 kilometers (kms), aimed to enhance regional connectivity, ease congestion, reduce travel time and bolster logistics integration under the Prime Minister (PM) GatiShakti-National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP).
Key Details of Projects:
Odisha: It involves the construction of a new coastal highway connecting Rameshwar and Paradeep in Odisha with an investment of Rs 8,300.79 crore. The 160.18 km-long NH project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
MP: It involves the upgradation of the existing intermediate lane of Hiwarkhedi–Roshni–Ashapur–Rudhy section (125.01 km) of NH-347B to a 2-lane road with paved shoulders, along with the widening of the Deshgaon–Julwaniya section (108.643 km) of NH-347B to 4 lanes in MP. In addition, a 16.20-km-long greenfield bypass will be constructed in Khargone district of the state.
- The 233.653 km-long project will be developed under Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at an estimated cost of Rs 4,415.60 crore.
Telangana: It involves the widening of Armoor–Jagtial–Mancherial section of NH-63 and the Jagtial–Karimnagar section of NH-563, with a combined length of 190.76 km, in Telangana to four-lane standards at an estimated cost of Rs 7,597.16 crore.
- The proposed project will be implemented through a combination of HAM and Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) modes.
Bihar: It involves the upgradation of 143. 529 km-long Khagaria-Purnea Section of NH-31 and NH-231, developed under BOT (toll) model, to the 4-Lane Standard in Bihar at a cost of Rs.3936.05 crore. The project further involves the construction of a 6.729-km greenfield bypass for Purnea city.
India Joins Anthropic’s Project Glasswing, Gains Access to Claude Mythos AI
In June 2026, India joined ‘Project Glasswing’, a global cybersecurity initiative led by Anthropic PBC, gaining access to Claude Mythos AI, an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) model designed to identify software vulnerabilities and strengthen cyber defences for critical infrastructure.
- The initiative aims to help participating countries enhance cybersecurity resilience and protect critical digital infrastructure.

In June 2026, Union Minister Gangapuram (G.) Kishan Reddy, Ministry of Mines (MoM) & Ministry of Coal and Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, United Kingdom (UK), jointly launched the India–UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO) in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The initiative strengthens bilateral cooperation in critical minerals, supporting clean energy transitions, electric mobility, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies.

- Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining Foundation (TEXMiN), a Technology Translation Research Park (TTRP), under Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, (MoS&T), at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and
- the University of Cambridge.

PFRDA Introduces ‘StAR NPS Platform’ for Digital Onboarding of Subscribers
In June 2026, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), the statutory body under the Ministry of Finance(MoF), launched ‘StAR NPS’ platform, a new digital onboarding solution developed by Bombay Stock Exchange Limited (BSE) Technologies Private Limited (BTPL) to streamline and simplify the subscriber registration process for the National Pension System (NPS).
- The PFRDA also introduced a ‘Regulatory Sandbox Framework’, effective from 2 June 2026, to enable controlled testing of innovative pension-sector solutions before wider adoption.
Key Details:
StAR NPS: The newly launched platform will provide technology-enabled assisted onboarding for NPS subscribers via Points of Presence (PoPs) and their network of pension agents.
- At present, Resident Indian individuals, aged 18 years and above and up to 85 years, are eligible under the new framework.
Regulatory Sandbox framework: As per the new framework, PFRDA-registered intermediaries as well as eligible non-registered entities including the fintech firms, are eligible to apply to test new solutions with a limited set of users for a specified period.
- Non-registered entities who apply as independent applicants are required to have a minimum net worth of Rs 10 lakh and are eligible to participate in sandbox only if their innovations do not handle subscriber contributions, funds or any other data.
Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh Announces ANRF-Backed Portal to Strengthen Research & Innovation Ecosystem
In June 2026, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) and Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), announced a digital portal supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) to strengthen scientific research and innovation, during a joint review meeting of all science Ministries held in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The meeting was attended by Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India (GoI); Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT); Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ANRF and others.

Aim: To provide training and support in patent filing, research paper writing, scientific publishing, and intellectual property protection for researchers, students, startups, and innovators across India.

- The 29th NAeG 2026 recognise excellence across seven categories, including the Gram Panchayat category for strengthening grassroots service delivery through digitisation, with the award ceremony to be held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Award and Incentives: Awards will be given to Central Ministries, States, Union Territories (UTs), districts, organisations, and Gram Panchayats for implementing projects or addressing resource gaps in public welfare.

Major Prabhat Mishra of IA Wins Two Major Awards at USA Army CGSOC Graduation

The United Nations (UN)’s International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing is observed annually across the globe on 5th June to raise awareness about the adverse impact of illegal fishing on marine ecosystems, fisheries sustainability and global food security.
Background:
UNGA Proclamation: In December 2017, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/72/72, proclaiming 5 June as the International Day for the Fight Against IUU Fishing and declaring 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022).
Observance: The International Day for the Fight Against IUU Fishing was observed for the first time on 5 June 2018.
Led by: The day is organised by the FAO of the UN.
Why June 5? 5 June was chosen to mark the entry into force of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) in 2016, the first legally binding global treaty to combat IUU Fishing.
International Level Crossing Awareness Day 2026 – June 5
The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is observed annually across the globe on 5 June to raise awareness about the risks at level crossings, where roads and railway tracks intersect, and to promote safer behaviour.

Background:
Origins: ILCAD was launched as the European Level Crossing Awareness Day on 25 June 2009, covering 28 European countries to promote safety and reduce accidents at level crossings.
Global Expansion: Since 2009, ILCAD has expanded beyond Europe under the leadership of the International Union of Railways or Union Internationale des Chemins de fer in French(UIC).

Tamil Nadu Inks Rs.18,600 Crore Investment Pact with L&T for Three Major Projects
In June 2026, the Government of Tamil Nadu (TN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to invest Rs.18,600 crore in three major projects across the state.
- The MoU was signed in the presence of the Chief Minister (CM) of TN C. Joseph Vijay and SN Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of L&T at the Secretariat in Chennai, TN.
Key Details of Projects:
Project 1: L&T will invest Rs.15,000 crore to expand its data centre project in Kancheepuram, TN creating 500 jobs and strengthening Artificial Intelligence (AI ), cloud computing, and data storage infrastructure.
Project 2: L&T will invest Rs.2,500 crore in an electronics and electronic systems manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, TN, generating around 2,000 jobs and boosting electronics production.
Project 3: L&T will invest Rs.1,100 crore to expand its Kattupalli shipyard in Tiruvallur district, TN creating around 5,700 jobs and strengthening maritime infrastructure and the offshore wind energy supply chain.
Significance: The MoU marks the first major industrial investment pact signed by the new TN government and supports the state’s vision of becoming a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
