CCEA Approved 4 Major National Highway Projects Worth Over Rs 24,249 Crore Across 4 States
In June 2026, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi approved 4 major National Highway (NH) projects worth Rs 24,249 crore across 4 states: Odisha, Telangana, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh (MP).

• These newly approved projects spanning over 700 kilometers (kms), aimed to enhance regional connectivity, ease congestion, reduce travel time and bolster logistics integration under the Prime Minister (PM) GatiShakti-National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP).

Key Details of Projects:
Odisha: It involves the construction of a new coastal highway connecting Rameshwar and Paradeep in Odisha with an investment of Rs 8,300.79 crore. The 160.18  km-long NH project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
MP: It involves the upgradation of the existing intermediate lane of Hiwarkhedi–Roshni–Ashapur–Rudhy section (125.01 km) of NH-347B to a 2-lane road with paved shoulders, along with the widening of the Deshgaon–Julwaniya section (108.643 km) of NH-347B to 4 lanes in MP. In addition, a 16.20-km-long greenfield bypass  will be constructed in Khargone district of the state.

• The 233.653 km-long project will be developed under Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at an estimated cost of Rs 4,415.60 crore.

Telangana: It involves the widening of Armoor–Jagtial–Mancherial section of NH-63 and the Jagtial–Karimnagar section of NH-563, with a combined length of 190.76 km, in Telangana to four-lane standards  at an estimated cost of Rs 7,597.16 crore.

• The proposed project will be implemented through a combination of HAM and Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) modes.

Bihar: It involves the upgradation of 143. 529 km-long Khagaria-Purnea Section of NH-31 and NH-231, developed under BOT (toll) model, to the 4-Lane Standard in Bihar at a cost of Rs.3936.05 crore. The project further involves the construction of a 6.729-km greenfield bypass for Purnea city.

India Joins Anthropic’s Project Glasswing, Gains Access to Claude Mythos AI
In June 2026, India joined ‘Project Glasswing’, a global cybersecurity initiative led by Anthropic PBC, gaining access to Claude Mythos AI, an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) model designed to identify software vulnerabilities and strengthen cyber defences for critical infrastructure.

• The initiative aims to help participating countries enhance cybersecurity resilience and protect critical digital infrastructure.

Overview: Mythos is an AI-powered security auditor that analyses large software codebases, detects vulnerabilities, identifies security weaknesses, generates remediation patches, and can uncover flaws at a scale beyond traditional tools, including decades-old vulnerabilities.
Coverage: The expansion includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, India, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom (UK),United States of America (USA), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), along with organisations such as Okta, Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, SK Telecom, Euroclear, Intercontinental Exchange, Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).

India–UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory Launched in New Delhi 
In June 2026, Union Minister Gangapuram (G.) Kishan Reddy, Ministry of Mines (MoM) &  Ministry of Coal and Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, United Kingdom (UK), jointly launched the India–UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO) in New Delhi, Delhi.

• The initiative strengthens bilateral cooperation in critical minerals, supporting clean energy transitions, electric mobility, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies.

About Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCO):
Observatory: It is a joint platform led by

• Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining Foundation (TEXMiN), a Technology Translation Research Park (TTRP), under Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, (MoS&T), at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and
• the University of Cambridge.

Objective: Strengthens India’s critical mineral supply chain intelligence and evidence-based policymaking through India–UK collaboration to build resilient, secure, and diversified mineral value chains.

PFRDA Introduces ‘StAR NPS Platform’ for Digital Onboarding of Subscribers 
In June 2026, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), the statutory body under the Ministry of Finance(MoF), launched ‘StAR NPS’ platform, a new digital onboarding solution developed by Bombay Stock Exchange Limited (BSE) Technologies Private Limited (BTPL) to streamline and simplify the subscriber registration process for the National Pension System (NPS).

• The PFRDA also introduced a ‘Regulatory Sandbox Framework’, effective from 2 June 2026, to enable controlled testing of innovative pension-sector solutions before wider adoption.

Key Details:
StAR NPS: The newly launched platform will provide technology-enabled assisted onboarding for NPS subscribers via Points of Presence (PoPs) and their network of pension agents.

• At present, Resident Indian individuals,  aged 18 years and above and up to 85 years,  are eligible under the new framework.

Regulatory Sandbox framework: As per the new framework, PFRDA-registered intermediaries as well as eligible non-registered entities including the fintech firms, are eligible to apply to test new solutions with a limited set of users for a specified period.

• Non-registered entities who apply as independent applicants are required to have a minimum net worth of Rs 10 lakh and are eligible to participate in sandbox only if their innovations do not handle subscriber contributions, funds or any other data.

Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh Announces ANRF-Backed Portal to Strengthen Research & Innovation Ecosystem
In June 2026, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) and Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), announced a digital portal supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) to strengthen scientific research and innovation, during a joint review meeting of all science Ministries held in New Delhi, Delhi.

• The meeting was attended by Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India (GoI); Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT); Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ANRF and others.

About ANRF-Backed Portal:
Capacity Building: The newly launched portal will serve as a key capacity-building platform for researchers and young innovators by offering structured support in scientific writing, publication processes, Intellectual property (IP) protection, and patent-related procedures.
Aim: To provide training and support in patent filing, research paper writing, scientific publishing, and intellectual property protection for researchers, students, startups, and innovators across India.
About ANRF: Established under the ANRF Act, 2023, it serves as India’s apex research funding body, promoting research, innovation, and collaboration across academia, research institutions, and industry.

• It is presided over by the Prime Minister(PM) of India and is administered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), MoS&T.

17 Projects Selected for National Awards for e-Governance 2026 
In June 2026, the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPPG&P), Government of India (GoI), announced the 29th National Awards for Electronic Governance (NAeG) 2026, selecting 17 projects and initiatives across 7 award categories.

• • The 29th NAeG 2026 recognise excellence across seven categories, including the Gram Panchayat category for strengthening grassroots service delivery through digitisation, with the award ceremony to be held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
  • These awards recognise excellence in digital governance, innovation, and transformative use of technology in public service delivery.

Award and Incentives: Awards will be given to Central Ministries, States, Union Territories (UTs), districts, organisations, and Gram Panchayats for implementing projects or addressing resource gaps in public welfare.

• Gold Awardee: Trophy, Certificate, and an incentive of Rs 10 Lakh.
• Silver Awardee: Trophy, Certificate, and an incentive of Rs 5 Lakh.

Major Prabhat Mishra of IA Wins Two Major Awards at USA Army CGSOC Graduation 
In June 2026, Major Prabhat Mishra of the Indian Army (IA) received the Birrer-Brookes Award for Outstanding Master of Military Arts and Science (MMAS) Thesis and the General Douglas MacArthur Military Leadership Writing Award during the graduation ceremony of the United States of America (USA) Army Command and General Staff College’s Command and General Staff Officer Course (CGSOC), Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, USA.

• He received the awards among 951 graduates, including 120 international officers from 92 countries, who completed the prestigious 10-month programme.

About Major Prabhat Mishra at CGSOC:
Officer: Major Prabhat Mishra of the IA’s 22 Kumaon Regiment secured 4th rank among 1,185 officers (top 1%), becoming the first Indian officer to simultaneously win both the awards, and receive the Golden Pen Award for scholarly excellence.
Thesis: His award-winning Master of MMAS dissertation was titled “India’s Pursuit of Military Strategic Autonomy in a Multipolar World.”
Awardees: Other international award recipients included Major Aleksander Granberg of Norway and Lieutenant Colonel Taleh S. F. H. H. Alrashid of Kuwait.
About CGSOC: It is a 10-month professional military education programme for mid-career officers focused on senior leadership, command, staff responsibilities, military arts and science, strategic leadership, and professional writing.

ACC Appoints Neelkanth Mishra as ED of World Bank 
In June 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, approved the appointment of Economist Neelkanth Mishra as Executive Director (ED) of the World Bank (WB) for a three-year tenure.

• ACC also approved a one-year tenure extension for Tarun Kapoor, as Advisor to Prime Minister (PM), in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), effective from June 10, 2026.

About Neelkanth Mishra: 
Predecessor: He will succeed Parameswaran Iyer, (1981 batch retired Indian Administrative Service, IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh, UP cadre) whose tenure has been extended beyond June 19, 2026, until he assumes office.
Professional Experience: He is currently the Chief Economist at Axis Bank and Head of Global Research & Whole-Time Director at Axis Capital.

• He joined the Axis Group in 2023 after nearly two decades at Credit Suisse, where he served as Co-Head of Asia Pacific Strategy and India Strategist.

SoftBank Sells 3.25% Stake in Lenskart for Rs 2,873 Crore through Open Market Transaction 
In June 2026, Japan-based investment giant SoftBank Group, through its affiliate SoftBank Vision Fund II (SVF II) Lightbulb (Cayman) Ltd, divested a 3.25% stake in Lenskart Solutions by selling 5.65 crore shares through an open market transaction on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

• The shares were sold at an average price of Rs 508.55 apiece, taking the total transaction value to Rs 2,873.30 crore.

Key Details:
Impact: SoftBank’s stake in Lenskart declined from 13.13% to 9.88% following the transaction.
Key Investors: The share sale was acquired by leading institutional investors, including WhiteOak Capital MF, Mirae Asset MF, Kotak MF, Canara Robeco MF, ICICI Prudential MF, HDFC Life Insurance, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Societe Generale, Metzler Asset Management, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity, Copthall Mauritius Investment, Dendana Investments (Mauritius) Ltd, and other global investment entities.
Financial Impact: The partial exit generated around 7x returns for SoftBank, making Lenskart one of its most successful investments in India.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri Launches India’s First Flex-Fuel Passenger Vehicle by Maruti Suzuki
In June 2026, the Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), launched India’s first passenger Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV), the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, capable of running on ethanol-petrol blends from 20% ethanol (E20) to E100, advancing India’s ethanol-based mobility.

• Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, MoRTH, also launched Hero MotoCorp Limited’s first flex-fuel motorcycles – Splendor+ Flex Fuel and HF (Hero Family) Deluxe Flex Fuel, in New Delhi, Delhi.

About Maruti Suzuki Wagon R: 
Technology: The vehicle features an advanced Engine Control Unit (ECU), modified fuel-system components, optimized injection mapping, and a cold-start system that adapts to varying ethanol concentrations. Standards: E85 has been designated as the mono-fuel standard for FFVs under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications, while ethanol-based FFVs are classified as Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) by National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog due to their near-zero particulate matter (PM) emissions.

Indian Wicketkeeper-Batter KS Bharat Announces Retirement from International Cricket 
In June 2026, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Kona Srikar Bharat (KS Bharat) announced retirement from international cricket, after a seven-Test career to pursue opportunities in overseas Twenty20 (T20) leagues, in line with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regulations.
About Kona Srikar Bharat:
Profile: He represented India in Test cricket as a wicketkeeper-batter and earned recognition for his dependable wicketkeeping before making his mark in the national team.
International Career: He made his India debut in 2023 and represented the national team in Test cricket as a wicketkeeper-batter.

• He represented India in 7 Test matches between 2023 and 2024, scoring 221 runs, effecting 19 dismissals, featuring in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final, and serving as a stand-in wicketkeeper during the 2021 Kanpur Test against New Zealand.

Domestic Cricket Career: Representing the Andhra cricket team, he became the first wicketkeeper-batter to score a triple century in the Ranji Trophy, remaining unbeaten on 308 against Goa in 2015.

Former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash C. Kashyap Passes Away
In June 2026, noted Constitutional expert, renowned author and former Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, Subhash C. Kashyap, passed away at the age of 97, in New Delhi, Delhi. He was born on May 10, 1929 at Chandpur, Bijnor district, United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, British India (present-day Uttar Pradesh, UP).

• In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s 3rd highest civilian honor, by the Government of India (GoI) in the field of Public Affairs.

About Subhash C. Kashyap:
Parliamentary Roles: He joined the Parliament Secretariat in 1953 and served as Secretary General of the 7th, 8th, and 9th Lok Sabhas (1983–1990), with a parliamentary association spanning over three and a half decades.
Other Leadership Roles: Served as a member and Drafting Committee Chairman of the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution (NCRWC) (2000–2002), Honorary constitutional advisor on Panchayati Raj reforms (2000s), and appointed to the high-level committee on One Nation, One Election (2023).

Veteran Film Producer and Former CBFC Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani Passes Away at 76 
In June 2026, veteran film producer and former Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani passed away at the age of 76 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

• He was born on 10 January 1950 in Karachi, Sindh( present-day Pakistan).

About Pahlaj Nihalani: 
Profile: He was a prominent Indian film producer known for delivering several successful Bollywood films.
Career:  He began his film production career with Haathkadi in 1982. He gained recognition for producing Ilzaam (1986), which marked the debut of Govinda, and Aag Hi Aag (1987), which introduced Chunky Panday to Bollywood. 
Industry Leadership: He served as President of the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers for several years, playing a key role in the Indian film and television industry.
CBFC Chairperson: In January 2015, Pahlaj Nihalani was appointed Chairperson of the CBFC and served in the position until August 2017.

International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing 2026 – June 5
The United Nations (UN)’s International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing is observed annually across the globe on 5th June to raise awareness about the  adverse impact of illegal fishing on marine ecosystems, fisheries sustainability and global food security.
Background: 
UNGA Proclamation:  In December 2017, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/72/72, proclaiming 5 June as the International Day for the Fight Against IUU Fishing and declaring 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022).
Observance:  The International Day for the Fight Against IUU Fishing was observed for the first time on 5 June 2018.
Led by: The day is organised by the FAO of the UN.
Why June 5? 5 June was chosen to mark the entry into force of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) in 2016, the first legally binding global treaty to combat IUU Fishing.

International Level Crossing Awareness Day 2026 – June 5 
The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is observed annually across the globe on 5 June to raise awareness about the risks at level crossings, where roads and railway tracks intersect, and to promote safer behaviour.

• 2026 Slogan: “Alert Today, Safe Tomorrow”

Background:
Origins: ILCAD was launched as the European Level Crossing Awareness Day on 25 June 2009, covering 28 European countries to promote safety and reduce accidents at level crossings.
Global Expansion: Since 2009, ILCAD has expanded beyond Europe under the leadership of the International Union of Railways or Union Internationale des Chemins de fer in French(UIC).
Integration: In 2010, ILCAD was incorporated into the ‘United Nations (UN) Decade of Action for Road Safety’, strengthening its role in advancing global road and rail safety awareness.
2026 Events: The ILCAD 2026 and TRESPAD 2026 conferences to be held in person from June 9-11, 2026 at the UIC Headquarters, Paris, France, with proceedings conducted in English and French.

STATE NEWS

Tamil Nadu Inks Rs.18,600 Crore Investment Pact with L&T for Three Major Projects 
In June 2026, the Government of Tamil Nadu (TN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to invest Rs.18,600 crore in three major projects across the state.

• The MoU was signed in the presence of the Chief Minister (CM) of TN C. Joseph Vijay and SN Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of L&T at the Secretariat in Chennai, TN.

Key Details of Projects:
Project 1: L&T will invest Rs.15,000 crore to expand its data centre project in Kancheepuram, TN creating 500 jobs and strengthening Artificial Intelligence (AI ), cloud computing, and data storage infrastructure.
Project 2: L&T will invest Rs.2,500 crore in an electronics and electronic systems manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, TN, generating around 2,000 jobs and boosting electronics production.
Project 3: L&T will invest Rs.1,100 crore to expand its Kattupalli shipyard in Tiruvallur district, TN creating around 5,700 jobs and strengthening maritime infrastructure and the offshore wind energy supply chain.
Significance:  The MoU marks the first major industrial investment pact signed by the new TN government and supports the state’s vision of becoming a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
