India-Oman CEPA Came into Force on June 01 2026; Opens duty-free access for 99.38% of Indian exports to Oman
India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) officially came into force on June 01 2026, in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) and Issa Saleh Al Shibani, Ambassador of Oman to India, in New Delhi, Delhi.
- Following the operationalisation of India-Oman CEPA, the 1st consignments availing preferential tariff benefits under the agreement included agriculture and gems and jewellery exports from Mumbai (Maharashtra), Kolkata (West Bengal, WB) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu, TN)were also flagged off.
Key Features:
Duty-Free Export: CEPA offers 99.38% of its tariff lines which includes 98.08% of India’s exports, making it one of the most comprehensive market access outcomes secured by India in the Gulf region.
- Earlier, under the MFN regime, only 15.33% of India’s exports entered Oman duty-free. With CEPA, Indian exporters gain substantial price competitiveness in Oman’s nearly USD 28 billion import market.
Liberalised Tariffs on Imports from Oman: On the other hand, the GoI offers liberalised tariffs on 77.79% of its total tariff lines, which covers 94.81% of what India imports from Oman.
Sub-Sectors Covered: Under the CEPA, Oman has committed to expand its market access across 127 services sub-sectors, covering Most Favoured Nation (MFN) commitments; binding commitments for defined categories of professionals (engaged in Accounting, Engineering, Medicine , Information Technology, IT , Education , Construction).
Mobility: Under CEPA, business visitors can now stay in Oman for a maximum of 90 days; Independent professionals (up to 180 days); Intra-Corporate Transferees (ICTs) (up to 4 years).
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Presents ‘Sagar Aankalan’ Award to DPA for Best Port Performance
In May 2026, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), formerly Kandla Port Trust in Kandla (Gujarat), bagged the best-performing port under the ‘Handling of Container Cargo- less than 0.5 Million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs)’ category at the Sagar Aankalan- Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) for Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25).
- The award was presented by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) to Nilabhra Dasgupta, Deputy Chairman of DPA, during a function organised to celebrate the 37th anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Other Key Winners:
Dry Bulk Cargo: Among all the major ports in India, Paradip Port Authority (PPA) in Odisha, secured top rankings at the Sagar Aankalan awards which included: 1st position in Dry Bulk Cargo category, handling over 5 million tonnes and 3rd position for its outstanding overall performance in handling cargo in the category of ports handling less than 0.5 Million TEUs.
Liquid Bulk Cargo: As per the new LPPI for FY25, Sikka Port and Terminals Limited (SPTL) in Jamnagar, Gujarat, topped the liquid bulk cargo segment.
- Also, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA)in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP), secured 2nd position in Sagar Aankalan Award‘ for ‘Excellence in Handling Liquid Bulk Cargo’ in the category of “ports handling 5 million tonnes and above”.
MoJS and ANRF Launches Rs 200 Crore MAHA Water Mission to Support Water Sector Startups
In June 2026, the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) jointly launched the “Missions for Advancement in High-Impact Areas (MAHA) Water Mission”, a national innovation programme, during the national workshop on Research and Development (R&D) in Water, held in New Delhi, Delhi, to enhance India’s water security through research and technology-driven solutions.
- The mission has a financial outlay of Rs.200 crore over five years and will provide funding support of up to Rs.20 crore per consortium.
About MAHA Water Mission:
Objectives: It aims to promote innovation from laboratory to field deployment, develop scalable and localised water solutions, strengthen India’s long-term water security, and foster collaboration among academia, industry, and government.
Support: Selected multidisciplinary consortia can receive up to Rs.20 crore for technology development, field assessment, validation, and deployment.
Participants: Eligible stakeholders include universities, national laboratories, research organisations, startups, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and industry partners.
Themes: The mission focuses on Water Resource Assessment and Sustainable Management, Drinking Water, Water Quality and Ecological Health, Water Use Efficiency and Circular Economy, and Climate Resilience and Adaptation.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches Month-Long ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan‘ Campaign in MP
In June 2026, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoAFW) and Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) launched ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ to promote sustainable agriculture, improve soil health, and raise awareness on climate-resilient farming practices, in Ramsiya village, Raisen, Madhya Pradesh(MP).
- The month-long initiative commenced on June 1, 2026, and will continue until June 30, 2026.
Key Details of Launch:
Overview: Khet Bachao Abhiyan is a national campaign to reduce excessive urea use, improve soil health, and cut import dependence by addressing soil degradation and unsustainable farming.
Objective: This campaign promotes soil-test–based balanced nutrition, green manures, organic and bio-fertilisers, and Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) through field demonstrations.
BHASHINI, DPIIT Ink MoU to Expand Multilingual Access in Investment Ecosystem
In June 2026, the Digital India BHASHINI(BHASHA Interface for India) Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), under the ‘BHASHINI Seva/Sanchalan – A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program’ to enhance multilingual digital capabilities across India’s industry and trade ecosystem through the BHASHINI platform.
Key Details of MoU:
Multilingual Access: The initiative will leverage BHASHINI’s Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered tools, including translation, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech technologies, to provide investment-related information and services in multiple Indian languages.
- It will support all 22 Eighth Schedule languages on DPIIT platforms, reducing language barriers and enhancing accessibility for entrepreneurs, startups, investors, businesses, and citizens.
Initiatives: The collaboration includes initiatives such as BHASHINI Udyat, Mitra, Appmitra, and Pravakta, along with Application Programming Interface (API) integration and multilingual AI tools.
Capacity Building and Innovation: The MoU will support language-data contributions, awareness campaigns, capacity-building efforts, and wider adoption of multilingual AI tools, while exploring new initiatives to strengthen India’s multilingual digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem.

RBI Annual Report 2025-26: RBI’s Balance Sheet for FY26 Expands by 20.6% to Rs 91.97 lakh crores
In May 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the “Annual Report 2025-26” and presented it to the Central Government (CG) under Section 53(2) of the RBI act,1934.
- This is the report of the Central Board of Directors on the working of the RBI for the year ended March 31, 2026.
Balance Sheet (BS) expanded by 20.6% in FY26
Expansion: The BS size increased by 20.6% (Rs 15.72 lakh crores (Cr)) from Rs 76.25 lakh Cr to Rs 91.97 lakh Cr as on March 31, 2026.
- A provision of Rs 1.09 lakh Cr was made and transferred to Contingency Fund (CF).
Asset Increase: Increase on assets side was due to rise in:
- Domestic investments by 44.9% to Rs 22.59 lakh Cr,
- Gold by 63.8% to Rs 10.94 lakh Cr and
- Foreign investments by 7.9% to Rs 52.68 lakh Cr
Fraud Amount: The amount involved in fraud cases reported by the banking sector shot up by 46% to Rs 48,021 Cr during FY26 as against Rs 32,803 Cr in the previous year.
- However, the number of fraud cases dipped to 10,114 from 23,722 a year ago.

New Species Mesalina bishnoi Discovered in Rajasthan; First Record of Genus Mesalina in India
In June 2026, scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) discovered a new lizard species, Mesalina bishnoi, near Gajner in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, marking the first confirmed record of the genus Mesalina in India, following field surveys conducted in August 2025 and published after morphological and genetic validation.
