Union Minister Amit Shah Launches 4 Digital tools and mascots ‘Pragati’ & Vikas’ for Census-2027 in New Delhi
In March 2026, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), soft-launched four digital tools and formally unveiled the mascots “Pragati” (female) and “Vikas” (male) for Census-2027 in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The event marks a key milestone in preparations for India’s first fully digital census.
Launch of Mascots and Digital Tools:
Mascots: The mascots Pragati and Vikas represent the equal participation of women and men in achieving India’s national mission of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Digital Tools: The four newly launched soft digital tools: Houselisting Block Creator (HLBC) Web Application(app), House Listing Officer (HLO) Mobile App, Self-Enumeration (SE) Portal, and Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) Portal, are designed to facilitate and streamline enumeration operations throughout India.
- They have been developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the premier R&D organization under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
MoC&F Observes ‘Janaushadhi Saptah 2026’ from March 1 to 7, 2026
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers (MoC&F) is observing ‘Janaushadhi Saptah 2026’ from 1 to 7 March 2026 to promote awareness about the affordability and quality of generic medicines under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
- The week-long campaign will conclude with the observance of the 8th Janaushadhi Diwas on 7 March 2026.
About Janaushadhi Saptah 2026:
Organiser: The event is being organised by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) under the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), MoC&F.
Theme: The theme for 2026 is “जन औषधि सस्ती भी, भरोसेमंद भी, सेहत की बात, बचत के साथ” (Jan Aushadhi – affordable and trustworthy, good health with savings).
Event: During the observance, several activities including health camps, awareness programmes, pamphlet distribution, and outreach campaigns were organised.
Network: Under PMBJP, over 18,000 PM Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) are operational across India, with a target to expand to 25,000 by 31 March 2027 to strengthen last-mile access to affordable medicines.
Indian Army and Ladakh Administration Sign MoU for Wildlife and Ecology Protection
On 3rd March 2026, the Indian Army’s (IA’s) Fire and Fury Corps (14 Corps) and the Forest, Ecology and Environment Department of the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Leh, Ladakh, on the occasion of World Wildlife Day (3 March 2026).
- The agreement aims to preserve the fragile high-altitude ecology and conserve iconic wildlife species under the framework of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection (GSLEP) programme.
About Ladakh Wildlife Conservation MoU:
Species: The initiative prioritizes protection of key species including Snow Leopard, Himalayan Wolf, Bharal (Blue Sheep), Ibex, Himalayan Marmot, and Black-necked Crane across the cold desert ecosystem of Ladakh.
Cell: A joint Snow Leopard Conservation Cell (SLCC) will be established to monitor endangered species, coordinate conservation efforts, and support research-based wildlife protection.
Key Role: The IA will integrate eco-friendly practices such as waste management, afforestation, water conservation, and protection of flora and fauna while safeguarding borders in high-altitude regions.
GSLEP: It is an international partnership of 12 snow leopard range countries established to achieve the goals of the Bishkek Declaration on Snow Leopard Conservation.
Pondicherry University Signs MoU with CCPD to Advance Disability Rights and Inclusion
In March 2026, Pondicherry University (PU), Puducherry, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD), under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE) to strengthen institutional ties in the domains of disability rights, accessibility, and inclusive education.
Key Details of MoU:
Objective: The MoU aims to advance accessibility and inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in higher education through joint research, internships, academic exchanges, capacity building, conferences, and structured academic engagement in disability rights and policy.
Support: Pondicherry University promotes inclusive education through free education and fee waivers for PwD students, the Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs (HEPSN) unit, and specialized programmes such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Disability Rehabilitation and Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) coaching.
Significance: The MoU will promote accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in Indian educational institutions.

UN Report: Women Hold Only 64% of Legal Rights Globally
In March 2026, the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General released a report titled “Ensuring and Strengthening Access to Justice for All Women and Girls”, revealing that women worldwide hold only 64% of the legal rights of men in nearly 70% of countries surveyed, resulting in pervasive discrimination and social exclusion.
Key Findings of the Report:
Violence: In 54% of countries, rape is not legally defined based on consent, while digital violence against women and girls is increasing with limited accountability for perpetrators.
Marriage: National laws in nearly three out of four countries still permit girls to be forced into marriage.
Pay: In 44% of countries, laws do not mandate equal remuneration for work of equal value, allowing legal gender pay disparities.
Equality: According to the report, no country in the world has yet achieved full legal equality between women and men.

SEBI Deploys in-house AI System ‘Sudarshan’, Removes over 1.2 Lakh Misleading Finfluencers Claims
In March 2026, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has deployed an in-house Artificial Intelligence (AI) system named ‘Sudarshan ’ to strengthen digital monitoring of financial content across online platforms.
- The AI-based system has so far facilitated the removal of more than 1.20 lakh misleading social media posts shared by unregistered financial influencers.
Key Features:
AI-Based Monitoring: The AI system scans and keeps track of large volumes of audio, video, and text context across various digital platforms.
Detection of Violations: It also enables the regulatory body to monitor patterns which indicate any unregistered advisory activity and misleading claims, enabling faster identification of potential breaches of securities norms.
MOHFL Signs USD 100 Million NCD Deal with ADB to Boost Affordable Housing in India
In March 2026, Motilal Oswal Home Finance Limited (MOHFL) signed a USD 100 million debt financing agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs) to expand affordable housing finance in India.
Key Details of Deal:
Purpose: The funds will be raised as Indian Rupee (INR)-equivalent debt and will mainly be used to provide affordable housing loans to women borrowers, particularly in underserved Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and emerging towns.
Green Housing Allocation: Around 10% of the proceeds will be utilised to finance the construction of green-certified residential housing units, promoting environmentally sustainable building practices.
Significance: This strategic partnership will help MoHFL expand affordable housing finance in underserved and emerging towns across India.
German DEG & Citi Provide USD 76 Million Funding to Shriram Finance
In March 2026, German development finance institution DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH) and Citibank N.A. (Citi) jointly granted USD 76 million (nearly Rs 630 crore) co-financing lending facility to Shriram Finance Limited (SFL), one of India’s largest Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), to support financial inclusion and sustainable mobility in India.
- This marks the 2nd such collaboration between the two co-financing partners after the successful transaction supporting CreditAccess Grameen in 2024.
Key Details of Funding:
Funding Structure: The funding has been arranged through External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs), under which DEG has extended a USD 46 million (EUR 40 million) loan, while Citigroup (Citi) has provided a Rs 260 crore loan to Shriram Finance.
- Citi also acted as the Lead Arranger and Coordinator for the transaction.
Target Areas: The proceeds from DEG will be used towards financing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), women borrowers, Electric Vehicles (EVs), and customers in underserved areas, enabling access to formal credit through SFL’s networks across India.

ACC Re-appoints Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi as Drugs Controller General of India
In March 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, approved the reappointment of Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi as Drugs Controller General (India) (DCGI) at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
Key Details of Re-appointment:
Extension Period: The reappointment has been made on a contract basis for a further period of 1 year with effect from (w.e.f.) March 01, 2026, or till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
Tenure Extension: He was initially appointed as DCGI on 23 February 2023, and the current reappointment marks his second tenure extension, after his term was earlier extended until February 2026.

CCI Approves Central Bank of India’s Stake Hike in Generali Insurance Joint Ventures
On March 3 2026, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), approved the Central Bank of India (CBI) to acquire additional equity in Generali Central Insurance Company Limited (GCICL) and Generali Central Life Insurance Company Limited (GCLICL), allowing it to increase its shareholding to 26% in both joint ventures (JVs).
Key Details of Acquisitions:
Stake: The CBI will acquire an additional 1.09% stake in GCICL and 0.82% in GCLICL, raising its shareholding to 26% in both entities from 24.91% and 25.18%, respectively.
Impact: The 26 % stake enhances the bank’s voting power and governance, strengthens bancassurance integration, allows insurance cross-selling through its network, and supports revenue diversification beyond traditional banking.
Background: The additional stakes were earlier held by Future Corporate Resources Private Limited (FCRPL), a Future Group entity undergoing insolvency proceedings, and were acquired by CBI after it emerged as the successful bidder following a decision by the Committee of Creditors (CoC).

AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Launches ‘Project HANUMAN’ to Curb Human-Wildlife Conflict
In March 2026, Pawan Kalyan, the Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Minister for Forest & Environment of AP, launched ‘Project HANUMAN (Healing and Nurturing Units for Monitoring, Aid and Nursing of Wildlife)’ to address the growing issue of human–wildlife conflict in the state.
- The initiative was launched to mark World Wildlife Day on 3 March 2026.
About Project HANUMAN:
Infrastructure: The initiative deployed 100 Global Positioning System (GPS)-enabled vehicles, including 93 Rapid Response and Rescue Vehicles (RRRV) and 7 Wildlife Ambulances (WA), and established four Wildlife Rescue and Treatment Centres (WRTC) at Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Tirupati, and Bairluty for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
Compensation: Under Ex-gratia Assistance (EA), compensation for deaths due to wild animal attacks has been increased from Rs.5 lakh to Rs.10 lakh, injuries are compensated up to Rs.2 lakh, livestock losses are paid at market value.
