Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates Zetwerk Electronics’ New Manufacturing Facility in BengaluruIn February 2026, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and M.B. Patil, Industries Minister of Karnataka, inaugurated the new manufacturing facility of Zetwerk Electronics at KIADB Hi-Tech in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also launched Qualcomm’s 2-nanometer (2nm) semiconductor chip design, marking a major milestone in advanced chip design.

About Zetwerk Electronics’ New Manufacturing Facility: 
Focus Sectors: It is an advanced electronics manufacturing unit, worth Rs.100 crores, built to produce products across sectors, including defence & aerospace, automotive, Information Technology (IT) hardware, medical devices and telecom hardware.
Capabilities: It is equipped with advanced Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Final Assembly, Testing & Packaging (FATP) to produce high-reliability systems.

  • It is designed for end-to-end support from design and engineering to manufacturing and quality control.

About India Semiconductor Mission (ISM):
Launch: In 2021, GoI launched the ISM with a financial outlay of Rs.76,000 crores to build a comprehensive semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in India.
Implementation: The mission is implemented under the MeitY.
Semiconductor Sector Growth: As of December 2025, the government had approved 10 ISM projects worth Rs.1.60 lakh crore across six states. India’s semiconductor market is projected to grow significantly, reaching approximately USD 100–110 billion by 2030.

Union MoS Jitendra Singh Along with AP CM N. Chandrababu Naidu Laid Foundation Stone for India’s 1st Quantum Valley in Amaravati, APIn February 2026, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) along with Nara (N.) Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister (CM) of  Andhra Pradesh (AP), laid the foundation stone for India’s 1st Quantum Valley, Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) at Uddandarayunipalem village in Thullur mandal, Amaravati, AP.

  • This newly unveiled project supported by the National Quantum Mission (NQM), aims to be a global hub for emerging technologies like quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

About Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV):
Key Partners: The AP Government has collaborated with some of the leading companies such as: International Business Machine (IBM), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics) and C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) and leading quantum startups, to establish India’s 1st 133-qubit quantum computer centre in Amaravati.
Key Focus Areas: The new facility will mainly focus on Research & Development (R&D), innovation, manufacturing, and skill development in areas like: quantum computing, AI, cybersecurity, healthcare, defence, and finance.
Key Facilities: The project will host an IBM–TCS Quantum Innovation Centre, a specialized Quantum Talent Hub, and a Quantum Reference Facility to be established by SRM University.
Project Timeline: The government plans to complete the Quantum Valley complex by August 2026 and install the quantum computer by December 2026.
Key Launches: The event also witnessed the launch of AQV logo, launch of IBM and TCS Quantum Cloud Services.

  • It also saw the establishment of the IBM-TCS Quantum Innovation Centre.
  • The event saw the launch of the Washington Institute for STEM( Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Entrepreneurship and Research (WISER) Quantum Talent Hub, under which a Centre of Excellence (CoE) will provide training to 35 lakh students in quantum computing by 2035.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches Pulse Self-Reliance Mission in Sehlore, MP
On February 7, 2026, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (MoAFW), launched the Nationwide Pulse Self-Reliance Mission, at the Food Legumes Research Centre (FLRP), Amlaha in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh (MP).
Dignitaries: Some of the dignitaries, including Chief Minister (CM) of MP Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister (Dpy CM) of Odisha Pravati Parida, Union Minister of State (MoS) Bhagirath Choudhary, MoAFW, were also present.
About Pulse Self-Reliance Mission:
Transformation: The mission aims to achieve self-reliance in pulse production across India, transform India into a global exporter of pulses, and support farmer livelihood and strengthen the domestic pulses sector.
Key Components: It includes:

  • Cluster-based Production model to boost productivity
  • Establishment of seed villages for local distribution of high-quality seeds
    Establishment of 1,000 pulse mills across India, 55 in MP, with government subsidy of up to Rs.25 lakhs per mill, to encourage local processing, value addition, and employment
  • Strengthening Research-farmer linkages to ensure adoption of scientific methods and improved crop varieties.

Alignment: The mission aligns with the Government of India (GoI)’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates Rail Projects and Flags Off New Train Services in WB
On February 9, 2026, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Railways(MoR), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), virtually inaugurated the Siuri Road Over Bridge(ROB) and Kumarpur ROB, and flagged off a new Asansol–Bokaro train service in West Bengal(WB).
Key Highlights:
ROB: The Siuri ROB is expected to eliminate transit delays for local residents.

  • The Kumarpur ROB serves as a vital link between central Asansol, West Burdwan, and Jharkhand, facilitating smoother trade, reducing traffic congestion in the industrial belt, and enhancing overall regional connectivity.

Asansol–Bokaro train service: The new train service links two key SAIL(Steel Authority of India Limited) industrial hubs, passing through West Burdwan, Purulia, and Bokaro, benefiting thousands of commuters and enhancing economic and interstate connectivity between WB and Jharkhand.

World’s First Doctor-Led AI-Powered Home Healthcare Ecosystem iLive Connect’ Launched
In February 2026, India launchediLive Connect’, the world’s first doctor-led, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered healthcare ecosystem, aimed at providing round-the-clock medical monitoring from patients’ homes, especially for senior citizens and high-risk patients.
Key Features: 
Developers: iLive Connect was developed by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Rahul Chandola and interventional cardiologist Dr Viveka Kumar to function as a personalised Intensive Care Unit (ICU)-like care system at home.
Devices: The system uses Food and Drug Administration (FDA)- and European Conformity (CE)-certified wearable devices, including a chest-mounted biosensor patch and a wristband, for continuous real-time health monitoring.
Parameters: iLive Connect tracks vital parameters such as two-lead Electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature, blood pressure trends, physical activity, and heart rate variability.
Monitoring: The collected data is securely transmitted to a cloud platform and monitored round the clock by specialist doctors at a central medical command centre.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Malaysia from February 7 to 8, 2026Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi was on a two-day official visit to Malaysia from February 7 to 8, 2026, at the invitation of PM of Malaysia H.E.Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

  • This visit marked PM Narendra Modi’s third official visit to Malaysia, reinforcing the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.

Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Malaysia:
Bilateral Engagements: PM Narendra Modi and Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim held restricted and delegation-level meetings, deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between India and Malaysia, established in 2024.

  • They reviewed cooperation across sectors, including trade and investment, defense and security cooperation, digital economy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Semiconductors, infrastructure development, clean energy and tourism, education, health, and maritime cooperation.

10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum:During the visit, PM Modi attended the 10th India-Malaysia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Forum, held in Kuala Lumpur, to discuss trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
MoUs Signed: India and Malaysia signed several MoUs to boost bilateral cooperation. Key areas included AV co-production, disaster management, anti-corruption, UN peacekeeping, semiconductors, wildlife conservation, social security, vocational education, security, and health.

  • An MoU was signed between University of Cyberjaya (UoC), Selangor (Malaysia), and Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar (Gujarat), on academic collaboration in Ayurveda.

Other Initiatives: India set up a Consulate General in Malaysia to strengthen diplomatic, commercial, and people-to-people ties.

  • Thiruvalluvar Centre was set up to promote Tamil language, literature, and Indian culture in Malaysia.
  • NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and PayNet of Malaysia agreed to link their payment systems.

USGBC LEED List 2025: China Topped the List, India Rises to 2nd PositionIn February 2026, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), released the latest ‘Annual list of 10 countries and regions for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) in 2025’, outside the United States of America(USA).

  • As per the list, India climbed from 3rd place in 2024 to 2nd in 2025 in terms of total LEED-certified space, recording over 16,111,512 Gross Square Meters (GSM) across 611 projects during the year.
  • Mainland China topped the list with 26,645,737 Gross Square Meters (GSM) of LEED-certified space across 1,939 projects.

Key Findings of USGBC LEED List 2025:
LEED Certification: There was significant growth in LEED certification globally last year, with more than 7,500 commercial projects certified, totaling over 147 million GSM.
Global Leader: The USA remains the global leader in LEED adoption, with 50,129,093 GSM of certified space across 2,228 projects.
Other Countries in the list:  Canada ranked third with 288 projects covering 8,450,146 GSM, followed by Republic of Korea with 100 projects (3,879,192 GSM) and Mexico with 144 projects (3,294,953 GSM).

  • Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) secured the 6th position with 3,158,950 GSM across 96 projects, followed by Brazil in 7th place with 2,933,631 GSM across 171 projects. Vietnam, made its debut in the top 10 rankings for the first time, ranked 8th with 2,602,797 GSM across 100 projects, while Sweden held the 9th position with 2,564,921 GSM across 183 projects. The United Arab Emirates completed the top 10, recording 2,251,714 GSM across 174 LEED-certified projects.

Projects Leading: In 2025, the most significant and exponential growth in LEED-certified space occurred in industrial manufacturing and warehousing.

BANKING & FINANCE

Transcorp International Received RBI’s In-Principle Approval for CPS
In February 2026, Transcorp International Limited received in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for participation in Centralized Payment Systems (CPS), representing a major development in its banking services infrastructure.

  • Following this authorization, Transcorp will be able to hold and operate a bank account at the RBI, and also be allotted its own Indian Financial System Code (IFSC).

Key Details:
Significance of CPS: The CPS authorisation, which is usually granted to banks, allows the company to develop and operate its payment ecosystem with Real Time Gross Settlement(RTGS) and National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) capabilities, in accordance with applicable RBI guidelines.

  • The CPS will improve payment ecosystem independence, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance, while supporting secure and technology-driven payment solutions.

Key Financial Highlights: Transcorp increased profitability during the quarter (49% growth compared to the last quarter); and the 9-month period (67% growth over the corresponding period of the last year) ended December 31, 2025.

  • The company fully repaid all public Fixed Deposits (FDs) as part of its Public FD scheme.

APPOINTMENTS & RESIGNATIONS

Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi’s party secures ‘landmark victory’ in snap electionsIn February 2026, Japan’s ruling party Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), led by the country’s 1st female Prime Minister (PM) Sanae Takaichi, along with its coalition partners secured a landmark victory in snap elections.
Key Details of Elections:
Electoral Milestone: LDP alone won 316 seats, surpassing a 261-seat absolute majority required in the 465-member of the lower house of Japan’s Parliament (the National Diet).

  • This represents a major milestone ever since the party was founded in 1955 as it breaches the previous record of 300 seats won in 1986 by late PM Yasuhiro Nakasone.

Coalition Partner: LDP’s coalition partner, Japan Innovation Party (JIP), known as Ishin secured 36 seats, bringing the total seats won by the ruling coalition to 352 and a super-majority of two-thirds of seats.
Opposition Parties: Opposition parties in total secured only 111 seats, with major opposition Centrist Reform Alliance winning only 49 seats (down from 167).
Voter Turnout: The voter turnout for this year’s election stood at marginally over 56% which is around 2 percentage points higher than last election.

Anutin Charnvirakul Won Thailand’s 2026 General ElectionIn February 2026, Thailand’s caretaker Prime Minister (PM), Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the conservative Bhumjaithai Party (BJT), won the general election for the 500-member House of Representatives, as per preliminary results announced by the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT).

  • In September 2025, Anutin Charnvirakul assumed the position of PM of Thailand following a period of political turbulence, later continuing in the role as caretaker PM during the election period.

Election Result:
Result: The party secured a strong mandate to form the next government, marking a decisive victory in the national polls.
Majority : The BJT won 194 seats (175 constituency and 19 party-list), falling short of the 251-seat majority.
Others: The People’s Party secured 116 seats, Pheu Thai 76 seats, while Kla Tham won 57 and the Democrat Party 22.

New Bio-warrior Species Discovered in Bay of Bengal EcosystemIn February 2026, Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), in collaboration with global experts, discovered two new marine worm species (polychaetes) in the Digha and Bankiput regions of Purba Medinipur in West Bengal (WB).

  • The discovery of these new worms have been published in a study titled ‘Description of Two New Species of Nereidids (Annelida: Neredidae) from West Bengal, India, Bay of Bengal.

Two New Marine Worm Species: Nereididae is part of the marine polychaete worm family which is commonly known as ragworms or clam worms.

  • Namalycastis solenotognatha is derived from the two Greek words i.e. solenotos (channelled) and gnatha (jaw) due to its unique jaws with a large number of  canals that emerge from the pulp cavity.
  • Nereis dhritiae: It is named after Dhriti Banerjee, the 1st woman director of ZSI, India’s oldest taxonomic research organisation.
  • These two new segmented worm species are recognised by their long slender bodies, distinct head with eyes and tentacles, and parapodia.

New Dragonfly Species: Researchers discovered a new dragon species, named Lyriothemis keralensis, in the low-lying coastal areas of Kerala.

  • The new dragonfly species commonly known as the ‘Slender Bombardier’, was initially identified in 2013 in the Varapetty region of Kothamangalam (Kerala).
  • The discovery of new dragonfly species has been published in the International Journal of Odonatology.
  • Some of its features are: slender abdomen along with unique tail and genital structure.

India Clinches SAFF U-19 Women’s Football Title Against Bangladesh in NepalOn 7th February 2026, India’s Under-17 (U-17) women’s national football team defeated Bangladesh 4–0 in the final of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-19 (U-19) Women’s Championship 2026 held at the Pokhara Rangasala Stadium, Nepal.

  • The 7th edition of the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship was held from 31 January to 7 February 2026.

About SAFF Under-19 Women’s Championship 2026:
Organiser: The tournament is organised by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF).
Participants: The tournament featured four participating nations — Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Nepal.
Champions: India clinched their third SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship title, having previously won in 2022 and 2024.
Team Strategy: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) fielded the U-17 squad in the U-19 tournament to prepare for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-17 Women’s Asian Cup.
Most Valuable Player: Bangladesh’s Alpi Akter was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Top Goalscorer: Alpi Akter of Bangladesh also finished as the tournament’s top goalscorer.
Best Goalkeeper: India’s Munni received the Best Goalkeeper award for her outstanding performances.

Odisha Governor Released Two Books by Former AP Governor
In February 2026, Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Odisha released two books authored by Biswabhushan Harichandan, former Odisha Cabinet Minister and former Governor of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Chhattisgarh.

  • The books were released titled ‘E Mati Katha Kahein Odia language and Buxi Jagabandhu: The Great Commander’  in English languages.

About Books:
Buxi Jagabandhu: The Great Commander: This book is a tribute to Odisha’s Paika leader. It documents one of the earliest resistance movements against British Colonial rule.
E Mati Katha Kahe: It is a collection of essays which gives reflection on democracy, Odia identity, national leadership and spiritual traditions, including the Nabakalebara of Lord Jagannath.

International Day of the Arabian Leopard 2026 – February 10 The United Nations (UN)’s International Day of the Arabian Leopard is observed annually on February 10 every year to raise awareness about the conservation of the Arabian leopard, one of the rarest leopard subspecies in the world.

  • 9th February 2026 marked the 3rd observance of the International Day of the Arabian Leopard.

Background:
Launch:The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) initially launched Arabian Leopard Day in 2022.
UN Recognition: On 12 June 2023, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/77/295, declaring 10 February each year as the International Day of the Arabian Leopard to support RCU and its conservation partners.
First Observance: The first-ever UN International Day of the Arabian Leopard was observed on 10th February 2024.
Significance: The day emphasizes protection of habitats, preventing poaching and illegal trade, promoting research and conservation programs, and engaging local communities.
