MYAS Launches Comprehensive Internship Policy to Build Next-Gen Sports Professionals

In December 2025, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) launched a “Comprehensive Internship Policy for MYAS and its Autonomous Bodies” with an annual budget of Rs 5.30 crore.

Key Details of Comprehensive Internship Policy:

Objective: This new initiative aims to build a strong talent pipeline of sports professionals in sports governance, administration, sports science, anti-doping, event management and athlete support services.

Internships: The new policy will offer a total of 452 internships annually across MYAS and its key bodies: the Sports Authority of India (SAI), National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL).

Stipend: As per the new policy, each intern will receive a stipend of Rs 20,000 per month.

Eligibility: The internship is open exclusively to Indian nationals, including undergraduate and postgraduate students from recognized universities and sports institutes.

Recruitment Process: The internship will be conducted annually, in two recruitment cycles (i.e. in January and July), through a centralised digital platform, ensuring transparency, inclusivity and merit-based selection.

Internship Duration: The internship typically lasts 6 weeks to 6 months, with interns placed at SAI regional centers, National Centres of Excellence (NCOE), and under various Khelo India schemes to gain hands-on experience.

Other Key Benefits: Apart from monthly stipend, the interns enrolled under this new policy will receive structured onboarding, mentorship from domain experts and real-time exposure to policy formulation and implementation.

  • Also, these interns will contribute directly to MYAS’s flagship initiatives like: Khelo India, Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Target Asian Games Group (TAGG).

Key Domains: The programme will cover more than 20 functional domains, including sports management, sports science, event operations, media and communications, legal affairs, Information Technology (IT) systems, international sports governance and anti-doping.

Key Focus Areas: The initiative specifically focuses on areas like: sports science research, laboratory testing, data analysis and scientific support to athletes.
