MoSPI Organises Culmination Ceremony of 75th Anniversary of the NSS at Udaipur; Releases NIC 2025In November 2025, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) organised the Culmination Ceremony of the 75th Anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS) along with the observance of World Statistics Day(October 20) at Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Highlights of the Event:
Event: The event concluded a year-long celebration of the country’s survey system, themed “National Sample Survey: From the Glorious Past to the Promising Future for Viksit Bharat @ 2047.”

About National Industrial Classification(NIC) 2025:
Evolution: India’s classification system, first introduced in 1962, has been revised periodically in line with international standards and changing economic landscape, leading to NIC 1970, NIC 1987, NIC 1990, NIC 1998, NIC 2004 and NIC 2008.
New Structure: It introduces a new 6-digit coding structure, in place of the 5-digit structure of NIC 2008.

AP Secures Investments Worth Rs.13.25 Lakh Crore at CII Partnership Summit Held in Visakhapatnam, APThe Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) secured investments worth Rs.13.25 lakh crore, including 613 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit held from 14 to 15 November 2025 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

  • The MoUs signed in key sectors such as Industrial growth, green energy, Information Technology (IT) and digital ecosystem, large-scale infrastructure, and tourism, aim to generate 16.31 lakh jobs.

Solar Energy Corporation of India: The Government of AP exchanged Government Orders (GOs) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for two projects such as 1200 Megawatt-hour MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Nandyal (AP), 50-Megawatt (MW) hybrid solar project in AP.
WEF: Government of AP signed an agreement with World Economic Forum (WEF) to establish a dedicated Centre for Energy and Cyber Resilience (CECR) in Visakhapatnam.

  • CECR will function as a hub where policies, frameworks, and best practices for energy-infrastructure resilience will be developed.

C-DOT: Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the Research and Development (R&D) arm of the Department of Telecommunications, signed an MoU with the Government of AP to participate in the Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV).

QS World University Rankings Sustainability 2026: IIT Delhi Topped in India; Lund University Topped GloballyIn November 2025, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), global higher education experts, released the 4th edition of ‘QS World University Rankings: Sustainability (2026)’. As per the latest rankings, Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D) in New Delhi (Delhi) has emerged as India’s best performing  institution for the 2nd consecutive year, securing 205th position globally with an overall score of 83.1 (down from 171st spot in last year’s ranking). This year, no Indian Institution featured among the world’s top 200 sustainable universities.

  • Lund University (Sweden) topped the 2026 global sustainability rankings for the first time since the index began in 2023, followed by the University of Toronto (Canada) and University College London(the United Kingdom, UK) in 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.

Other Top 10 Universities: Other universities in the global top 10 include the London School of Economics (LSE), UK at 6th, Imperial College London, UK at 7th, UNSW Sydney, Australia at 8th, McGill University, Canada at 9th, and the University of Manchester, UK at 10th in the rankings.
Most Represented Country: The United States of America (USA) with 240 institutions has emerged as the most represented country on the list, followed by China (163), the UK (109), India (103) and France (76).
India-Specific:
Total Indian Institutions Featured: This year, a total of 103 Indian institutions (including 26 new entries) featured on the list, making it the world’s 4th most represented country in the rankings.

  • Out of 103 Indian universities featured in this year’s edition, 32 have improved their ranking, 15 retained their previous year ranking, and 30 have dropped.

Other Top Indian Institutes:IIT Roorkee(Uttarakhand) secured the 352nd position with a score of 74.9, followed by IIT Banaras Hindu University(BHU), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh(UP) at 672nd with 62.5, and IIT Hyderabad(Telangana) at 792nd with a score of 58.7 in the 2026 rankings.

India Unanimously Re-elected to Codex Executive CommitteeIndia has been unanimously re-elected to the Executive Committee of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CCEXEC) for the Asia Region during the 48th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC48), held from 10–14 November 2025 at the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) Headquarters in Rome, Italy. With this re-election, India’s term of representation for the Asia Region has been extended until the conclusion of CAC50 in 2027.

  • Rajit Punhani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) led the Indian delegation which also included officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and several technical experts.

Stressed on Updating Data: India as Member Asia played a pivotal role during the CCEXEC89 session. India stressed on the focus on updating and developing databases on food additives, pesticide residues, veterinary drugs, methods of analysis, and contaminants in food.

On November 18, 2025, the Cambridge Dictionary has announced ‘parasocial’ as its Word of the Year 2025, highlighting the growing global trend of one-sided emotional connections people form with celebrities, influencers, fictional characters, and Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots.

BoB Signs MoU with SIDBI to Boost Credit Flow to MSMEs
On November 18, 2025, Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to scale up credit flow and working capital support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs) and startups.

ICRA Projects India’s GDP Growth at 7% for Q2FY26
In November  2025, Indian Credit Rating Agency, ICRA Limited (formerly Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency of India Limited) has lowered India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) forecast by 80 basis points (bps) i.e. to 7% in 2nd Quarter (Q2: July to September) of Financial Year 205-26 (FY26) from 7.8% in Q1FY26, amid lower government spending.

  • India’s Gross Value Added (GVA) growth is projected to witness a marginal dip i.e. to 7.1% (in Q2FY26) from 7.6% (in Q1FY26).

Services Sector: India’s services exports fell from 10.1% in Q1 FY26 to 8.7% in Q2 FY26, while services GVA growth is projected to ease from 9.3% to 7.4% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) .

  • Industrial GVA is projected to hit a 5-quarter high of 7.8% in Q2 FY26, up from 6.3% in Q1 FY26.

MoC&I Data: Whole-sale Inflation Dropped to 27-month Low of -1.2% in October
In November 2025, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I) released the monthly index number of wholesale price in India. As per the data, India’s Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation dropped to a 27-month low of -1.21%  in October 2025 as against -0.13% recorded (in September 2025).

  • It highlighted that the WPI for all commodities decreased marginally to 154.8% (in October 2025) from 154.9% (in September 2025), marking a monthly decrease of 0.06%.
  • This decline is attributed by a sharp deflation in food items like: pulses, and vegetables, and lower prices of fuel and manufactured items.

  • This  record low food deflation was primarily due to a deflation in key food items like: cereals (1.1%), pulses (16.5%), vegetables (35%) and fruits (7.0%).

Retail Inflation: It also showed that the retail inflation or consumer price index inflation dropped to an all-time low of 0.25% in October 2025 as against 1.44%  in previous month.

  • This decrease was mainly driven by  Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate cuts and the high base of last year.

Winners: The Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR) under MoJS, declared 46 winners, including joint winners, recognizing their outstanding work in the water sector across India.

SAIF Partners Sells 1.86% Stake in One97 Communications for Rs.1,556 Crores
In November 2025, Singapore Advisory Investment Fund (SAIF) Partners, also known as Elevation Capital, sold its 1.86% stake (approximately 1.19 crore shares) in One97 Communications the parent company of fintech giant Paytm for Rs.1,556 crores, at an average price of Rs.1,305 per share through open-market transactions.

  • This transaction marked the firm’s first share sale since Paytm’s initial public offering (IPO) in November 2021.

Early Observances: In 1993–94, the United Kingdom (UK) began holding memorial church services for road traffic victims, organized by the charity RoadPeace.

  • From 1995, Brigitte Chaudry and the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR) selected the 3rd Sunday of November for collective remembrance across countries.

Global Discussions: In 2004, the UN Road Safety Collaboration Forum (UNRSC) discussed establishing a worldwide observance to highlight road safety.
UN Resolution: On 26 October 2005, the UN General Assembly(UNGA), through Resolution A/RES/60/5, officially designated the 3rd Sunday of November as the WDoR for Road Traffic Victims.
About Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030):
Proclamation: In September 2020, the UNGA adopted resolution A/RES/74/299, officially declaring 2021–2030 as the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety, with a goal to cut road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50 % by 2030.
Global Plan: The World Health Organization (WHO), together with UN regional commissions and partners in the UN Road Safety Collaboration, developed a comprehensive Global Plan to guide and support this decade of action.
Mobilization Support: The UN Road Safety Fund and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety serve as major platforms to mobilize political commitment and financing, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
About Global Road Safety Week 2025 (GRSW 2025):
GRSW: It is a biennial WHO-led initiative that unites governments, corporations, and communities worldwide to raise awareness and drive action aimed at reducing road deaths.
8th Edition: The 8th GRSW was held from May 12–18, 2025, with the theme “Make Walking and Cycling Safe.”

First-Ever World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day 2025 – 17 November 2025The first-ever World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day (WCCED) was observed across the globe on 17th November 2025 to accelerate global efforts to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem.

  • WCCED was organised by the World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Theme 2025: “Act Now: Eliminate Cervical Cancer”

Background: 
Origin: In May 2018, the WHO Director-General(DG) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for global action to eliminate cervical cancer, leading to the launch of the Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative and the adoption of the Global Strategy in 2020.
Declaration: In May 2025, at the 78th World Health Assembly(WHA78.8), Member States adopted a resolution designating 17 November as World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day.
Establishment: Led by South Africa and Nigeria and co-sponsored by over 60 countries, the resolution institutionalizes the annual Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action to sustain global awareness and coordinated efforts.
Call to Action:
This year urges united and decisive efforts to accelerate progress toward the 90-70-90 targets by 2030, aiming for:

  • 90% of girls vaccinated against HPV by age 15
  • 70% of women screened with high-performance tests at 35 and 45
  • 90% of women with cervical disease receive timely treatment.
