Background:

Total ECMS Approval: With this announcement, the GoI has now approved a total of 24 projects worth Rs 12,704 crore out of 249 projects (with expected investment of Rs 1.15 lakh crore) under ECMS.

First Tranche Details: Out of these 24 projects, 7 were approved as part of 1st tranche under ECMS in October 2025, with total investment of Rs 5,532 crore.

Key Details of Approved Projects :

Expected Outcome: These newly approved projects are expected to lead the production of components worth Rs 65,111 crore and generate 11,808 direct job opportunities.

State-wise Distribution of Projects: As per the MeitY, the new approved units will be established across 9 States and Union Territory (UT) namely, Karnataka (5), Maharashtra (3), Tamil Nadu (3), and remaining 6 units i.e. one each in Andhra Pradesh (AP), Goa , Gujarat , Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madhya Pradesh (MP) .

Key Components: Under the 2nd tranche of ECMS, projects approved will manufacture various type electronic components such as: camera modules, connectors, oscillators, enclosures, out of these target production components, Multi-Layer Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are expected to draw highest investment i.e. worth Rs 3,183 crore.

  • These components are widely used in key sectors like: smartphones, Information Technology (IT) hardware, wearables, telecom, Electric Vehicles (EVs), industrial electronics, defence, medical electronics, and Renewable Energy (RE).

Manufacturing Units: India’s 1st ever Optical Transceiver (SFP) manufacturing facilities will be set up by Jabil Circuit India Private Limited and Zetchem Supply Chain Services Private Limited in Gujarat and TN, respectively;

  • Rakon India Private Limited will establish manufacturing unit for  Oscillators used mainly for precise timing applications in communication devices, computers, and industrial electronics;
  • Aeques Consumer Products Private Limited will produce enclosures used for laptops, and smartwatches;
  • ASUX Safety Components India Private Limited, Uno Minda Limited, and Syrma Mobility Private Limited will setup three manufacturing facilities for camera modules ;
  • TE Connectivity India Private Limited will produce connectors basically used for electronic applications;
  • Multi-layer PCB units will be established by 9 companies: Hi-Q Electronics Private Limited, Secure Circuits Limited, Zeftab India Private Limited, Sierra Circuits (India) Private Limited, Meena Electrotech Private Limited, AT&S India Private Limited, Micropack Private Limited, and Infopower Technologies Private Limited.
  • Out of these 9 companies, Meena Electrotech will set up the multi-layer PCB unit in Jammu (J&K), which will be the 1st such project approved in UT under ECMS.

Key Projection: As per MeitY, India’s electronic sector is expected to reach USD 500 billion in manufacturing value by 2030-31.

Launch of India’s 1st-Gen IP-powered Silicon Chip ‘ARKA-GKT1’:

Launches: During the event, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has also launched ‘ARKA-GKT1’, India’s 1st Generation (Gen.) Intelligent Power (IP) platform-on-a-chip, designed for high efficiency edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) and smart energy applications.

  • This marks a major milestone in India’s strides towards self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) and underscores its ambitions to emerge as a global hub for semiconductor design and tech innovation.

Developed by: This newly launched chip was developed by Cyient semiconductors Pvt. Ltd. in partnership with Azimuth AI.

Design: This new chip is built on Azimuth’s Software-Defined Silicon architecture, integrated with Cyient Semiconductors’ mixed-signal power, and lower energy Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) expertise.

Significance: The platform-on-a-Chip Silicon Chip (SoC) combines advanced computing methods, hardware accelerators, power-efficient design and secure sensing into a single chip, providing up to 10 times better performance while reducing cost and complexity.

Applications: It supports smart utilities, smart cities, batteries, and industrial Internet of Things (IoT), reflecting India’s transition toward a product-driven, high performance semiconductor ecosystem.
