Overview of 24th Asian Archery Championship 2025 Held in Dhaka, Bangladesh

The 24th edition of Asian Archery Championship 2025 was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from November 08 to November 14, 2025. This is for the 3rd time that Bangladesh hosted the Asian Championships.

  • India and South Korea tied with 10 medals each, but India, which secured 5 medals each in recurve and compound categories, topped the overall standings with 6 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals compared to Korea’s 2 gold medals.
  • 2024 Paris Olympians Bommadevara (B.) Dhiraj and Ankita Bhakat scripted history becoming the 1st-ever Indian male and female recurve archers to win individual gold medals at the Asian Archery Championships.

About 24th Asian Archery Championship:

Organised by: The 7-day long tournament was organised by the Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) and sponsored by Citi Group.

Key Participants: The event saw the participation of more than 200 archers from 30 countries across 10 events in archery i.e. 5 each in recurve and compound.

India’s Representation: The 16-member Indian contingent, featuring Olympian Deepika Kumari and Asian Games Champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam, competed at the tournament.

  • 8 Indian archers each competed in recurve and compound categories for the continental archery held at the National Stadium (Dhaka).

Previous Edition: Thailand hosted the 23rd edition of Asian Archery Championship in its capital city Bangkok.

India’s Performance:

Recurve (Women’s): Ankita Bhakat won her 1st gold medal in this category by defeating Paris 2024 Olympics silver medallist Nam Suhyeon (South Korea) by 7-3 in the final match.

Recurve (Men’s): B. Dhiraj clinched his 1st ever gold medal in this category by defeating  his compatriot Rahul by 6-2 in the finals.

Compound (Women’s Individual): In this category, Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam defeated her compatriot Prithika by 147-145, claiming a gold medal, while Prithika secured silver medal.

Compound (Women’s Team): Indian women team which included Deepshikha, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and Prithika Pradeep, won gold after defeating Korean team in the final match by 236-234.

Compound (Men’s Team): Indian men’s team comprising Abhishek Verma, Prathamesh Fuge and Sahil Jadhav secured silver medal as they lost the final match to Kazakhstan by 229-230.

Compound (Mixed Team): Indian team comprising Abhishek Verma and Deepshikha claimed the gold medal in this category, defeating Bangladesh with a 153-151 win in the final match.

Kaazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol Elected President of WAA:

In November 2025, Kazi Razib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, former secretary general of Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) was elected the President of World Archery Asia (WAA) for a term of 4 years, during the WAA Congress held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. With this, he became the 1st person from Bangladesh to lead the continental governing body of archery, which administers the sport’s development and competitions across Asia.

  • Chapol won the presidential election by securing 29 votes against 9 votes by his  opponent candidate, Thomas Han, incumbent secretary general of WAA.

Key Points:

Successor of:  He will succeed Chung Eui-sun, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hyundai Moto Group, who had been serving as the President of WAA since 2005.

Other Key Appointments: While, two other Bangladeshi representatives i.e. Tanvir Ahmed, General Secretary of BAF, has been elected President of Asia Para Archery, while Nur-e-Alam, Archery Coach, has been elected as a member of the Coaches Committee of Asian Archery.
