MNRE Hosted 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen in New Delhi, Delhi

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) hosted the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) held from November 11 to November 12, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The two-day conference brought together policymakers, scientists, researchers, and industry leaders to  develop a roadmap for India’s green hydrogen transition.

Exam Hints:

  • Event: 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen
  • Held at: Bharat Manadapam (New Delhi, Delhi)
  • Hosted by: MNRE
  • Co-organisers: Office of PSA, MoPNG, DST (MoS&T), DSIR
  • Key Highlights:
    • Announcement of 4 HVICs in India (worth Rs 485 crore)
    • Launch of new logo of NGHM
    • Announcement of Rs 100 crore Call for Biomass-based Hydrogen Projects

About ICGH 2025:

Organised by: The conference was organised by MNRE and the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), and Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), MoS&T.

Key Launches and Announcements:

4 HVICs: While addressing the high-level session, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, MoS&T announced that the Government of India (GoI) will establish 4 hydrogen valleys with a total investment of Rs 485 crore across the country to demonstrate the complete hydrogen value chain i.e. from production and storage to transport and utilization.

  •  Funding: Of the total investment, GoI has allocated Rs 169.89 crore under National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM)while Rs 315.43 crore will come from industry and consortium partners.
  • Integrated with NGHM: These Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVICs), initially conceptualized by DST (MoS&T) and now integrated under NGHM, aimed to showcase India’s 1st large-scale hydrogen demonstration projects.
  • Purpose: These clusters will serve as living laboratories for innovation, standardization and policy development.
  • Location: As per the GoI, these 4 HVICs will be established in : Pune (Maharashtra), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) and Kerala.

New Logo of NGHM: During the inaugural session of the conference, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, MNRE launched the official logo of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) which was selected from over 2,500 entries nationwide, representing India’s commitment to sustainable and clean energy.

  • The design of the logo integrates a leaf and a water drop which symbolizes nature, purity, and the eco-friendly essence of hydrogen energy.
  • The logo features a rising sun which indicates renewable energy sources like: solar power, a key driver in hydrogen production, while the semi-circular ring represents the orbit of hydrogen with an electron.
  • The green field signifies growth, harmony and India’s agricultural-environmental balance, and the hydrogen electron at the centre indicates scientific innovation and the clean-energy revolution.

Rs 100 Crore Call for Biomass-based Hydrogen Projects: Union Minister also announced a Rs 100 crore call for proposals for pilot projects to develop innovative technologies for producing green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials.

  • This latest announcement is in addition to Rs 100 crore which had already been sanctioned for startups under the NGHM.
  • The scheme will be implemented through Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

About National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM):

Launched by: GoI launched the NGHM in 2023 with total budget outlay of Rs 19,744 crore.

Significance: The mission is projected to mobilise more than Rs 8 lakh crore investment, generate 6 lakh job opportunities and save Rs 1 lakh crore in fossil-fuel imports annually.

Key Progress: Under the NGHM, the GoI has already sanctioned Rs 17,000 crore in incentives for production of hydrogen and electrolyser manufacturing.

  • In addition to that , GoI has awarded 3,000 Mega-Watt (MW) per annum of electrolyser manufacturing and 8.62 lakh Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of green hydrogen production.
  • Apart from these incentives, Rs 132 crore has been invested in 5 pilot projects for green steel, Rs 208 crore sanctioned for 37 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and 9 fuelling stations, and Rs 35 crore has been allocated for the establishment of India’s 1st hydrogen bunkering and refuelling facility at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu (TN).
