On November 13, 2025, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoC&F), Government of India (GOI), withdrew Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on 14 petrochemical products with immediate effect.

- Polycarbonate (PC)
Utilization: The 14 raw materials are used by the Textile and apparel industry, Packaging and plastics manufacturing, Chemical processors, automotive components, home appliances, and electronics manufacturing.
Aim: The initiative aims to ensure a steady supply of raw materials, reduce import constraints, and lower input costs for downstream industries, especially Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in textiles, packaging, and moulded plastic products.
About Quality Control Order: A QCO is a legal order issued by the GOI, mandating certain products to adhere to quality and safety standards set by BIS and bear the Indian Standards Institution (ISI) mark before they are manufactured, imported, or sold in India.
- QCOs are issued to enhance consumer safety, to support domestic manufacturing, reduce low-quality imports, and promote standardisation and global competitiveness.
About BIS: It is the National Standards Body of India, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD), responsible for setting quality standards, certifying products, and ensuring consumer safety and quality in goods and services.
- It runs certification programs, including ISI Mark, Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS), Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), and Hallmarking.
