On November 7, 2025, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), inaugurated the centenary celebrations of Indian Hockey at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, Delhi. The event commemorated 100 years of Indian hockey, marking its first international appearance in 1925.

Hockey India Centenary Celebration:
Dignitaries: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MoPA); Udhayanithi StalinDeputy Chief Minister (DYCM) of Tamil Nadu (TN) ; Suryabanshi Suraj, Odisha Sports Minister; and Dato Tayyab Ikram, President, International Hockey Federation (FIH), were also present at the event.
Exhibition Match: As part of the celebrations, a special exhibition match was played between the Sports Ministry XI led by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and the Hockey India XI captained by Dr. Dilip Tirkey, which ended with a 3-1 victory for the Sports Ministry team.
Felicitation: The event also featured the felicitation of Indian hockey legends, including Gurbux Singh, Harbinder Singh, and Ashok Kumar, honouring their outstanding contributions to the sport.
Commemorative Book: During the event, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya released a commemorative book titled “100 Years of Indian Hockey”, encompassing the evolution of Indian hockey from the 1928 Amsterdam (Netherlands) Olympics, when India won its first Olympic Gold to the modern era.
Photo Exhibition: A special exhibition showcased historic photographs, trophies, jerseys, and memorabilia, capturing India’s journey through major tournaments.
Hockey Festival: A nationwide hockey festival was organized across 500 districts, with over 36,000 players participating in more than 1,000 exhibition matches, bringing together school athletes, veterans, and community teams.
Unveiling of Trophy: During the event, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the trophy for the FIH(International Hockey Federation) Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025, set to take place from November 28 to December 10, 2025, in TN.

Overview: Hockey India is the governing body for field hockey in India. It was established in 2009, following the dissolution of the Indian Hockey Federation(founded on November 7, 1925), with the aim to bring transparency, professionalism, and growth to Hockey.
