Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Releases Rs.50 Commemorative Coin for NHPC Golden JubileeOn November 6, 2025, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Ministry of Power (MoP), released a commemorative coin of Rs.50 to mark the Golden Jubilee (50 years) of NHPC Limited (formerly known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation) at an event held in New Delhi, Delhi.

• He also unveiled a comic book titled “Chhota Bheem aur Bada Bandh” to teach children and the general public about the significance and benefits of hydropower.

Coin Features:
Obverse : The coin, was minted by the India Government Mint, Hyderabad(Telangana), features the Lion Capital of Ashoka, the Rs.50 denomination, and inscribed “Satyameva Jayate”.
Reverse : It showcases the NHPC Golden Jubilee logo, highlighting its 50-year milestone with design motifs symbolizing water, energy, and sustainability.
Material: The coin is made up of a quaternary alloy, which accounts for 50% of the content, copper (40%), nickel (5%), and zinc (5%).
Weight: It weighs 35 grams, has a 44-millimeter (mm) diameter, and features a serrated edge.
About NHPC Limited: NHPC, based in Faridabad (Haryana), was incorporated on November 7 1975 with an aim to develop hydropower projects across India.

• Over five decades, it has commissioned numerous large hydropower projects, diversified into solar, wind, and green hydrogen, and emerged as a 100% Green Energy Company.

PHDCCI, South Korea’s Busan Chamber Sign MoU to Boost Bilateral Trade & Industrial Collaboration
In November 2025, PHD(Progress Harmony Development) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), South Korea, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost bilateral trade, investment, and technology collaboration between two countries in New Delhi, Delhi.

Key Details of MoU:
Signatories: The MoU was signed by Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Secretary General, PHDCCI; and Yang Jae Saeng, President, BCCI.
Focus: The MoU focuses on areas such as Manufacturing & Industrial development; Clean & Renewable Energy (RE); Digital & smart technology; Maritime & logistics; Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Support & Skill development.
Significance: The MoU signed, marks a continuation of diplomatic trade relations between India and South Korea under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), business-to-business (B2B) and government-to-business (G2B) initiatives.

ITA Report: India Ranks 3rd Globally with 65 Clean Energy Industrial ProjectsIn November 2025, the Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) released a report titled “India Insights Briefing: Unlocking India’s Clean Industrialisation Opportunity,” which highlighted that India ranks third globally with a pipeline of 65 clean energy industrial projects, after China and the United States of America (USA).
About ITA’sReport:
ITA Origin: The ITA was established at Conference of the Parties, 28th session (COP28) as a global platform to decarbonise industry and transport, responsible for one-third of global emissions.
Overview: Launched under the ITA India Project Support Programme in collaboration with BCG, the COP28-linked report seeks to fast-track India’s industrial decarbonisation and ensure investment readiness by 2026.
Geographic Spread: Projects cluster in Odisha, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh (AP), Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu (TN), and Rajasthan, leveraging strong renewable potential and port infrastructure.
Investment Stage: Only six projects have reached Final Investment Decision (FID),  including one green ammonia, one Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project, and four aluminium smelters using renewables.
Clean Industry Focus: 

• Chemicals: Nearly 80% of India’s clean industry pipeline, including ~50 ammonia and methanol projects with 30–35 Million Tonnes Per Annum, Mtpa capacity.
• Steel: Four major projects deploying hydrogen-based reduction and carbon capture technologies.
• Emerging Sectors: Cement, aluminium, and aviation are piloting low-emission fuels, clinker substitutes, and clean propulsion technologies.

Sweden Becomes World’s First Cashless Society
In November 2025, Sweden became the world’s first society to operate as a cashless society, where digital payments replace physical currency in everyday transactions.

• As per the Sveriges Riksbank, Central Bank of Sweden, the total amount of cash, including banknotes and coins, is less than 1% compared to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Sweden.

Cashless Initiatives:
Application: In 2012, Sweden launched “Swish”, a mobile payment application(app) service linked to bank accounts, allowing transfers using smartphones, which has become the primary mode of payment.

• The government deployed digital payments in cafes, museums, and transport systems, with an aim to encourage the usage of digital payments.

Digital Currency: Sweden is testing a government-backed digital currency called the e-krona to keep the economy stable as it shifts to a cashless system.
Financial Policy: Government policies and incentives have made banks reduce cash-handling services such as withdrawals or deposits, making digital payments a default option.
Benefits: It includes reducing queues, changing handling, preventing theft loss, and unrecorded transactions through cash are included in formal economy.

Khangchendzonga NP Rated ‘Good’ by IUCN, Only Indian Site to Receive Positive StatusIn October 2025, Khangchendzonga National Park(NP), in Sikkim, has been rated ‘Good’ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in the 4th edition of its World Heritage Outlook, making it the only Indian natural heritage site to receive such recognition

• IUCN World Heritage Outlook 2025 was released at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in October 2025 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

About IUCN World Heritage Outlook 4:
Total Sites Covered: This latest edition of outlook has assessed 271 natural and mixed world heritage sites including 231 natural sites and 40 are mixed sites, across 115 countries.
Biodiversity Threats: The IUCN World Heritage Outlook 4 report highlights climate change, tourism, invasive species, and road development as key threats to South Asia’s biodiversity, classifying sites as “Good,” “Good with Some Concerns,” “Significant Concern,” or “Critical” based on conservation status and urgency of action.
Conservation Status of India’s Natural Heritage Sites: Kaziranga NP (Assam), Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers NP (Uttarakhand), and the Great Himalayan NP Conservation Area (Himachal Pradesh, HP) have been rated ‘Good with Some Concerns’ by the IUCN, reflecting effective conservation with minor challenges.

• Western Ghats, Manas Wildlife Sanctuary (Assam), and the Sundarbans (West Bengal, WB) have been rated as ‘Significant Concern’, indicating pressing conservation issues that require immediate attention.

India and Ecuador Signed Pact to Boost Diplomatic Cooperation
In November 2025, India and Ecuador signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at bolstering cooperation between their diplomatic training institutions , in Quito, Ecuador.

• The MoU was signed by Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs of Ecuador and Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita, Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) , who is on an official visit to Ecuador.

Key Highlights:
Inauguration : Union MoS Margherita and his counterpart Gabriela Sommerfeld jointly inaugurated the resident Embassy of India in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador, reflecting India’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Ecuador.
Collaboration: Both countries explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation in political, trade, pharmaceuticals, training and capacity building, and other areas of shared interest.

BANKING & FINANCE

SBI Surpasses Rs.100 trillion in Business, Crosses USD 100 billion Market Cap for the First Time
On November 6, 2025, State Bank of India (SBI), a Public Sector Bank(PSB), crossed the USD 100 billion market capitalization(market cap) for the first time, after its total business including deposits and advances, surpassed Rs.100 trillion.

SBI in USD 100 Billion Club:
Milestone:With this , SBI becomes the sixth Indian company, alongside Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Infosys, to reach a USD 100 billion valuation.
Total Business: As of September 2025, SBI’s total business reached Rs.100.12 trillion, comprising Rs.44.20 lakh crore in advances and Rs.55.92 lakh crore in deposits.
Growth: The performance of SBI in the Quarter 2 (Q2) of Financial Year 2025-26 (FY-26), includes a 10% year-on-year rise in net profit to Rs.20,160 crores.

• Its Gross Non-Performing Asset (GNPA) ratio declined to 1.73%, while Net Non-Performing Asset (NNPA) improved to 0.42%.

Junio Payments Receives RBI Approval for Prepaid Payment Instruments
In October 2025, Junio Payments Private Limited (JPPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of FirstPay Technologies Private Limited, received in-principle authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to issue Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs).

• The RBI granted approval under Section 18 read with Section 10(2) of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (PSS Act)

About Junio Payments Digital Wallet:
Approval Impact: The RBI approval allows JPPL to launch a digital wallet linked to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), enabling teenagers and young adults to make payments via Quick Response(QR) codes without a bank account.
Financial Literacy Tools:

• RuPay co-branded physical and virtual prepaid cards
• Parental controls for spending
• Transaction monitoring and allowance management

Rewards: Empowering young users with seamless transactions, rewarding savings, and interactive financial incentives.

CUB Partnered with EPFO for EPF Remittance Facility
In November 2025, City Union Bank (CUB), one of the oldest private sector banks in India, partnered with Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to enable seamless Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) payment remittance through CUB’s net banking platform.

• The facility was launched in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN) by R. Vijay Anandh, Executive Director (ED) of CUB, and Maneesh Agnihotri, Regional provident fund (PF) Commissioner, EPFO TN.

About Digital EPF Remittance:
Purpose: Enables CUB’s corporate customers to remit PF contributions directly to EPFO via CUB’s net banking portal, ensuring faster and simpler transactions.
Faster Processing: The new system reduces remittance processing time from the previous Transaction day(T)+2 days to T+1 day , ensuring quicker crediting of funds to employees’ EPF accounts.
Target: Focuses on onboarding Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across CUB’s wide network for digital EPF remittances.

ECONOMY & BUSINESS

AEL’s KCL & Caravel Minerals Signed MoU to Fast-track Major Australian Copper Project
In November 2025, Australia’s Caravel Minerals Limited has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kutch Copper Limited (KCL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), for strategic collaboration on Caravel Copper Project in Western Australia’s Murchison region.

• As per the MoU, both companies with explore investment and off-take opportunities to fast-track development of the Project towards a Final Investment Decision (FID) in 2026, with  estimated initial expenditure of project i.e. at AUD 1.7 billion (USD 1.1 billion).

Key Details of MoU:
Expected Payable Copper per Annum: This strategic partnership establishes framework to negotiate a life-of-mine off-take agreement covering up to 100% of Caravel’s copper concentrate output, expected to be nearly 62,000 to 71,000 tonnes of payable copper per annum in the initial years of project.

• This copper procured will be sent directly to KCL’s state-of-the art USD 1.2 billion Kutch Copper Smelter, the world’s largest single-location copper facility based in Gujarat.

Significance: All-In Sustaining Cost (AISC) of project is projected at USD 2.07 per pound, positing it among the world’s lowest-cost producers.
Joint Collaborative Efforts: The MoU also outlines collaborative workstreams such as co-engineering to optimize product specifications for Kutch Coppers’ downstream facilities; joint Procurement to fast-track delivery; and initiatives using the India-Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to promote cross-border resource development and workforce skilling.

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS

Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025: HCL Tech Founder Shiv Nadar tops the list with Rs.2,708 cr donationIn November 2025, the 12th edition of the Hurun India Philanthropy list has been released by the EdelGive Foundation in partnership with Hurun India, in which Shiv Nadar (80) and his family retained the title of India’s Most Generous donors for the fourth time in five years.

• As per the report, Shiv Nadar, founder-chairman of HCL Technologies, donated Rs 2,708 crore (cr) during Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25), averaging over Rs 7.4 cr every day, a 26% increase from the previous year.
• Mukesh Ambani and family ranked second with Rs.626 crore in donations, up 54% year-on-year, followed by the Bajaj family at Rs.446 crore, marking a 27% increase.

About the Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025
Donation FY25: The Hurun India Philanthropy list 2025 measures the donations by the value of their cash or cash equivalents from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025.
Threshold: The threshold for entering the top 10 philanthropists has more than doubled to Rs 173 cr from Rs 74 cr in 2020, while the bar for the top 25 has tripled since 2014 to Rs 70 cr.
Total Philanthropists: The 2025 list features 191 philanthropists, who cumulatively donated Rs 10,380 cr, up by 85% compared to three years ago.

• The top 10 philanthropists together contributed Rs 5,834 cr, accounting for 56% of total giving and top 25 alone contributed Rs 50,000 cr in the same period.

Other Top 10 Corporate Donors: Kumar Mangalam Birla and family ranked fourth with Rs.440 crore, followed by Gautam Adani and family in fifth place with Rs.386 crore.

• The top 10 also includes Nandan Nilekani (Rs.365 crore), Hinduja family (Rs.298 crore), Rohini Nilekani (Rs.204 crore), Sudhir & Samir Mehta (Rs.189 crore), and Cyrus & Adar Poonawalla (Rs.173 crore).

New Entrants: 12 new philanthropists joined the 2025 list, led by Venu Srinivasan of TVS Motor as the most generous debutant at Rs 20 cr.

• Ranjan Pai of Manipal Group donated Rs.160 crore, joining the Rs.100-crore club and ranking among India’s top individual philanthropists.

Trend: Education remains the most favoured cause, attracting Rs 4,166 cr from 107 philanthropists, followed by healthcare with a total amount of Rs 971 cr as donation.

Bahrain’s Interior Minister ‘Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa’ Received INTERPOL Medal of the Highest Order
In November 2025, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, Kingdom of Bahrain, received the INTERPOL Medal of the Highest Order from Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, President of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) and Inspector General at the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

M&M Sold Entire 3.45% Stake in RBL Bank Via Rs 682 Crore Block Deal
In November 2025, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Limited, the flagship company of Mahindra Group, has sold its entire 3.45% of  stakes(2.11 crore equity shares) in RBL Bank (formerly known as in Ratnakar Bank Limited), Indian private sector bank, through a block deal valued at Rs 682 crore.

• Now, this marks the complete exit of M&M Ltd from the private lender after its little over a year investment.

Key Details:
Overall Profit: Through this transaction, the company earns an overall profit of 62.5% compared to its previous investment in private lender in 2023.
Background: In July 26 2023, the automaker had acquired 3.53% stake in RBL as a treasury investment at total cost of Rs 417 crore.
Strategic Significance:M&M’s exit underscores Indian firms’ shift toward core business focus, freeing funds for EV, agri-tech, and digital finance growth, while RBL Bank prepares for ownership and capital restructuring under the Emirates NBD deal.

Indian Navy Commissions Indigenously-Built SVL Class Ship ‘INS Ikshak’ in KochiOn 6th November 2025, the Indian Navy (IN) commissioned Indian Naval Ship (INS) Ikshak (Yard 3027), the third indigenously built Survey Vessel (Large) (SVL) class, at the Southern Naval Command (SNC), in Kochi, Kerala, in a ceremony presided over by Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS).

• Ikshak is the first SVL-class ship to be based at the SNC, the tenth IN platform commissioned in 2025 and the 102nd ship steered by the IN’s Warship Design Bureau (WDB).
• Ikshak, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Limited, Kolkata (West Bengal, WB)), under a contract signed with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in October 2018.

About Indian Naval Ship (INS) Ikshak:
Meaning: The name ‘Ikshak’ is derived from the Sanskrit word for “Guide”, symbolising the vessel’s mission to chart uncharted waters and ensure safe navigation.
Supervision: Directorate of Ship Production (DSP)and Warship Overseeing Team (WOT), Kolkata, WB.
Indigenisation: Over 80% indigenous content, developed in collaboration with Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

India Successfully Demonstrates 500-km Quantum-Based Network for Digitally Secure CommunicationsIn November 2025, Bangalore-based quantum technology startup QNu Labs Pvt. Ltd., supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the National Quantum Mission (NQM), successfully demonstrated India’s first extensive Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) network stretching over 500 kilometers.

• This milestone achievement was announced at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, signaling a major advancement in the country’s quantum-secure digital communications.

About the Project Overview:
Support From: The test-bed fiber network was specially engineered and facilitated by the Indian Army’s Southern Command Signals in the Rajasthan sector, including selective access and secured nodes.
Funded by:  The project was funded through the I-Hub Quantum Technology Foundation, a Technology Innovation Hub under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS) hosted at IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) Pune.
Collaborative Innovation: The initiative exemplifies the Synergy of Technology, Research, Industry, and Defence Ecosystem (STRIDE), showcasing collaborative innovation between academia, industry, and defence sectors.
Indigenous Quantum Technology Development:
Demonstration by the company:  QNu Labs demonstrated the Quantum Random Number Generator System in Package (QSIP), a technology providing quantum-certified randomness essential for secure cryptographic algorithms.

• The network also demonstrated Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) and Quantum Secure Authentication, enhancing security in data exchange and authentication processes.

What is Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)?
Communication Technology: Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a next-generation communication technology that uses the principles of quantum mechanics to securely exchange encryption keys between two users.
Security provided: Information is transmitted through photons which are tiny particles of light and any interception(hacking) attempt changes their quantum state, immediately alerting both parties.
Virtually Safe Encryption: This ensures virtually unbreakable encryption, even against quantum computers, making QKD the foundation of quantum-safe communication systems.
India joins Global Quantum Leaders: The successful 500 km demonstration positions India among the few global leaders, including the United States, China, and Japan, capable of deploying long-distance quantum-secure networks.

• November 5, 2025 marks the 24th edition of this UN-designated day.

Background:
Adoption: On 5 November 2001, the UN General Assembly(UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/56/4, proclaiming 6 November as the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.
First Observance: The day was first observed on 6 November 2002.
UN Recognition of Environment–Conflict Link:
UNEA Adoption: On 27 May 2016, the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) adopted Resolution UNEP/EA.2/Res.15, recognizing that healthy ecosystems and sustainable resource management can reduce the risk of armed conflict.
UNEP Findings: According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), over the past 60 years, nearly 40% of internal conflicts have been linked to the exploitation of natural resources
Key Partnerships:
EU-UN Partnership on Land and Natural Resource Conflicts: Six UN agencies :UNEP, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), the Department of Political Affairs (DPA) and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA)

National Cancer Awareness Day 2025 – November 7National Cancer Awareness Day (NCAD) is observed every year on 7th November across India to promote awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.
Background: 
Launch: NCAD was introduced in September 2014 by former Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW).
First Observation: The first NCAD was observed on 7th November 2014.
Significance of Date: November 7 was chosen to mark the birth anniversary of Marie Curie (born on 7 November 1867), the Polish-born French physicist who won two Nobel Prizes in Physics (1903) and Nobel Prizes in Chemistry (1911).
Symbol: The lavender ribbon represents support for people affected by all types of cancer.
Cancer Burden in India:
Rising Cases:With over 1.4 billion people, India faces a rising cancer burden driven by lifestyle changes, tobacco use, poor diet, and inactivity.
Advancing Cancer Research and Treatment:
Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) Therapy (NexCAR19): Launched in April 2024, NexCAR19, developed by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay(IIT Bombay),Mumbai(Maharashtra), Tata Memorial Centre, and ImmunoACT.
Quad Cancer Moonshot Initiative: Started in September 2024 by India, the United States of America(USA), Australia, and Japan, the initiative targets cervical cancer elimination across the Indo-Pacific.

137th Birth Anniversary of CV Raman – 7th November 2025On 7th November 2025, India commemorates the 137th birth anniversary of the eminent physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata(C.V) Raman, widely known as Dr. C. V. Raman, for his remarkable contributions to the study of light scattering.

• He was the first Indian physicist to win the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering the Raman Effect, which explains the scattering of light by molecules.

About Dr. Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman:
Birth: Born on 7th November 1888 in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu (TN)
Pioneer Leader: He served as a professor at the University of Calcutta (now in Kolkata, West Bengal) and later became independent India’s first National Professor.

• He became the first Indian Director of Indian Institute of Science (IISc)Bengaluru, Karnataka (1933–1937) and continued to lead its Physics Department until 1948.

Scientific Visionary: He discovered the Raman Effect in 1928, co-discovered quantum photon spin in 1932, and advanced acoustics studies like the ‘Raman Curve,’ pioneering modern Indian physics and leaving a lasting impact on spectroscopy, chemistry, and material science through his enduring legacy at IISc.
Raman Institute: Founded the Raman Research Institute in Bengaluru in 1948 and served as its director until 1970.
Awards & Honors:His distinguished achievements earned him numerous honours, including the Bharat Ratna (1954), India’s highest civilian award, Knighthood (1929), Fellowship of the Royal Society (FRS) (1924), Lenin Peace Prize (1957), Franklin Medal (1941), Hughes Medal (1930), and the Matteucci Medal (1928).
