Overview of 11th Asian Aquatics Championships Held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat

The 11th edition of the Asian Aquatics Championships held from September 28 to October 11, 2025 at the  Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This was the first time India hosted the event and only the second time it took place in South Asia.

  • China dominated the medal tally with 54 medals(40 gold, 10 silver, 4 bronze), followed by Kazakhstan(23 medals) and Japan(21 medals). India achieved its most successful performance in swimming and diving winning a total of 13 medals.

About Asian Aquatics Championships 2025:

Inauguration: The event was inaugurated on September 28, 2025, by Gujarat Chief Minister (CM) Bhupendra Patel.

Organiser: The event was jointly organized by the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat.

Participants: Over 1,100 athletes from 29 Asian countries took part.

Sports Disciplines: The championships featured 65 medal events across four disciplines, swimming (42 events), artistic swimming (11 events), diving (10 events), and water polo (2 events).

Significance: The event served as a qualifying tournament for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

Overall Notable Performances:

China: Dominated across swimming, diving, and water polo, securing 54 medals.
Kazakhstan: Excelled in artistic swimming, winning 7 golds.
Thailand: Impressive in mixed artistic swimming duets, winning golds.

India’s Record Highlights: 

Swimming Records: In Men’s 4 × 200 metre(m) Freestyle Relay, Indian team (Aneesh Gowda, Sajan Prakash, Shoan Ganguly, Srihari Nataraj) set a National Record (NR) with 7:23.38, winning silver.
Diving Records: In Synchronized 10m Platform (Mixed), India’s Willson Singh Ningthoujam & Indiver Sairem finished 4th with 300.66 points, marking India’s notable presence in diving.

Bhavya Sachdeva: Won the first medal for India in the women’s category (Bronze in 400m Freestyle).

Notable Indian Performances:

Srihari Nataraj: Secured 7 medals, the highest haul by any Indian athlete in a single Asian Aquatics Championships.
