PM Narendra Modi Launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar YojanaOn September 26, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana’, an initiative of the Government of Bihar through video conferencing from New Delhi (Delhi).

• During the launch, he directly transferred Rs 10,000 each into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar, amounting to a total transfer of Rs 7,500 crore.

Dignitaries: The launch event was attended virtually by Bihar Chief Minister (CM) Nitish Kumar, Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and was witnessed live by over 1 crore women across the State.
About Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana:
Beneficiary: Empowering one woman from each family in Bihar by promoting self-employment, livelihood opportunities, and financial support to ensure economic independence, social upliftment, and Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) women.
Financial Assistance: An initial transfer of Rs. 10,000 via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), followed by performance-based assistance of up to Rs. 2 lakh in subsequent phases.
Sectors Covered: Agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, poultry farming, and other small enterprises.
Implementation: A community-driven model through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) resource persons, providing beneficiaries with skill training, market linkages via Gramin Haat-Bazaars, and financial integration through Bihar Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Society (Jeevika Nidhi).
Linkages: The initiative strengthens the Lakhpati Didi Campaign, aiming to support 3 crore women in earning over Rs. 1 lakh per annum across India.

• It also aligning with Central Sector Schemes (CSS) including Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), Drone Didi, Bima Sakhi, Bank Didi, and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) to enable seamless DBT through the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) trinity.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurated India’s 1st Maritime Simulation Centre and ISTCIn September 2025 Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) inaugurated India’s first Maritime Simulation Centre at the Academy of Maritime Education and Training(AMET) Knowledge Park, Maersk’s Centre of Excellence, near Chennai, and virtually inaugurated the Indian Ship Technology Centre (ISTC) in Visakhapatnam AndhraPradesh(AP).
Key Points:
About Maritime Simulation Centre: This newly inaugurated facility has been established with an investment of Rs 13.5 crore, which includes financial support of Rs 6.5 crore (USD 750,000) from the AP Moller Foundation.
Significance: The advanced systems of the centre provides cadets with immersive, hands-on training in vital maritime skills such as watchkeeping and steering, collision avoidance, navigation light identification, and engine troubleshoot.
About ISTC at IMU Visakhapatnam campus: Inaugurated during the Indian Maritime University’s 10th Convocation, ISTC is a hub for indigenous ship design, research, consultancy, and skills training, intended to reduce India’s dependence on foreign designs and make it a global shipbuilding leader by 2030.

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Rajasthan on September 25, 2025On September 25, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Rajasthan to lay foundation stone, inaugurate and dedicate multiple development projects in areas such as energy, infrastructure, employment, and connectivity, worth more than Rs.1.22 lakh crores in Banswara, Rajasthan.
Highlights of the Visit:
Mahi Banswara Atomic Power Plant:
Overview: Inaugurated the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP) worth Rs.42,000 crores at Napla village in Banswara, equipped with an installed capacity of 2,800 Megawatt (MW), consisting of four units of 700 MW each.
Developers: The project was developed by Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited (ASHVINI), a Joint Venture (JV) between Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
Power Transmission Projects:
He laid foundation stone for three major power transmission projects worth over Rs.13,180 crores under the Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) initiative of GOI.
RE Transmission projects: Laid foundation stone for the construction of a 765 Kilovolt (KV) transmission line from Beawar (Rajasthan) to Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh, MP) and a 765 KV transmission line, connecting Sirohi (Rajasthan) to Mandsaur and Khandwa (MP).
Agriculture:
Overview: Virtually inaugurated Feeder Level Solarization (FLS) projects, with a total capacity of 3,517 MW, valued at over Rs.16,050 crores, across Rajasthan, Maharashtra, MP, and Karnataka.
PM-KUSUM projects: The projects fall under the Component C of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), which aims to promote decentralized RE use in the agricultural sector.

GoI to discard Paper Arrival Cards for Foreigners from October 1,2025
In September 2025, the Government of India (GoI) has decided to discontinue the physical disembarkation form ( i.e.  Paper Arrival Cards) for foreigners travelling to India from October 1, 2025 as stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA)

New Format: Instead now travelers can submit a Digital Arrival Card online for smooth immigration process at the arrival counters.
Pre-Departure Submission: The digital card can be completed before departure, allowing for a smoother entry process upon arrival in India.

AP’s CM N. Chandrababu Naidu Inaugurated India’s 1st AI-powered Pilgrim ICCC at Tirumala Temple
In September 2025, N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh (AP) inaugurated India’s 1st Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered pilgrim Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) at Vaikuntam Queue Complex, Tirumala Temple in AP.

About AI-powered Pilgrim ICCC:
Public-Private Model: ICCC is developed under a Prono Bono Public-Private Model funded by group of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) philanthropists.
Significance: This newly inaugurated ICCC is designed to deliver real-time crowd prediction, faster queues, enhanced safety, and cyber threat monitoring across Tirumala.
Integrates Advanced Technologies: The new centre, powered by Kloudspot Inc. and NVIDIA’s high performance computing, integrates advanced technologies such as AI, Machine Learning (ML), and Digital Twin Map.
Processing Speed: The pilgrim command centre features over 6,000 AI cameras, has the capacity to process 3.60 lakh payloads every minute and 518 million events daily and can generate 2.5 billion inferences every day, all in real time.

BANKING & FINANCE

RBI Revised Norms for Claims Settlement Related to Deceased Bank CustomersIn September 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued revised norms for claims settlement of deceased customers’ bank accounts and lockers within the time frame of 15 days and prescribed compensation to nominees for delays in the settlement.

• These revised norms were issued under the ’RBI (Settlement of Claims in respect of Deceased Customers of Banks) Directions, 2025’.

Key Revisions:
Implementation: As per RBI directions, banks are required to implement the revised instructions at the earliest, and no later than March 31, 2026.
Applicability: The revised instructions are applicable on the deposit accounts of a deceased customer, safe deposit locker and articles in safe custody by the deceased customer.
Claiming Process: RBI has clarified that a deposit account with nominee or where the account was opened with a survivorship clause, the outstanding balance will be paid to the nominee upon the death of the depositor.
Deposit Account without Nominee: In cases where deposit accounts are without nominee or survivorship clause, banks have been directed to settle the claims through a simplified procedure, where the aggregate amount payable is less than the threshold limit.

• However, if the aggregate amount is above the threshold limit, the banks have the authority to ask for additional documents like a succession certificate or a legal heir certificate.

Threshold Limit: RBI has set the threshold limit for deposit accounts i.e. Rs 5 lakh for co-operative banks and Rs 15 lakh for any other bank.
Timelines: For deposit accounts, it is mandatory for banks to settle claims within a time period not exceeding 15 calendar days from the date of receipt of all the required documents associated with the claim.

• In case of safe deposit locker or articles in safe custody, banks are required to contact claimants and set an inventory date within 15 days.

Penalty for Delay: In case of failure to comply with revised norms, the bank has been mandated to pay compensation in the form of interest at bank rate + 4% per annum for deposits.

• While, for claims related to safe deposit locker or articles in safe custody, the bank has been mandated to pay compensation to claimant(s) at the rate of Rs 5,000 for per day delay.

BOB Signs MoU with TPREL to Finance MSME Solar ProjectsOn September 26, 2025, Bank of Baroda (BOB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited (Tata Power), to provide financial support to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers for adoption of solar energy.

• The move enhances BOB’s capabilities, contributing to increased liquidity and efficiency in India’s bullion market.

Signatories: The MoU was signed by Madhur Kumar, Chief General Manager (CGM), MSME Banking, Co-Lending & Supply Chain Finance (SCF), BOB, and Shivram Bikkina, Chief on Rooftop Solar Business & Electronic Vehicle (EV) Charging Business, TPREL.
Financial Support:
Capacity: Under the MoU, BOB will offer loans for solar projects with interest rate starting from 7.75% via TPREL or its authorized partners of up to 10-Megawatt (MW) capacity.
Tenure: The bank will offer collateral-free loans up to Rs.10 crores, with coverage under Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), flexible repayment tenure up to 120 months (10 years), Relaxed margin requirements beginning at 20%, and Concessional Processing fees.
Note: As of August 2025, TPREL has completed over 2.49 lakh rooftop solar installations, achieving cumulative capacity exceeding 3.6 Global Warming Potential (GWp).
IFSCA Approved BOB to operate as TCM on IIBX
International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) approved BOB to operate as Trading-Cum-Clearing Member (TCM) on the India International Bullion Exchange IFSC Limited (IIBX) at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).

• With this move, BOB is authorized to directly execute, clear, and settle bullion trades on IIBX for its clients and its own transactions.

Significance: BOB becomes the second Public Sector Bank (PSB) after the State Bank of India (SBI) to receive the status of TCM. The approval enables access for the international and domestic clients of BOB to gold and silver contracts directly.
About IIBX: It is India’s first international bullion exchange, established by Government of India (GOI) in July 2022, in Gandhinagar (Gujarat), to provide transparent, efficient, and globally competitive platform for bullion trading.

SBI Card and IndiGo Launches New Co-Branded Credit Card
In September 2025, SBI Cards and Payment Services Limited (SBI Card), a subsidiary of the State Bank of India (SBI), partnered with domestic carrier IndiGo to launch a new co-branded premium credit card in two variants -‘IndiGo SBI Card’ and ‘IndiGo SBI Card ELITE’, as part of the IndiGo BluChip loyalty program.

• Both variants will be available on MasterCard and Rupay platforms.

About the Cards:
Aim : To target frequent travelers by offering reward points, travel-related privileges, and milestone benefits.
Rewards: The SBI IndiGo card holders can earn rewards on all spends made on offerings within IndiGo’s ecosystem, and on hotel and travel bookings, among other categories.
IndiGo BluChips : Cardholders can earn rewards in the form of IndiGo BluChips, which function as a travel currency redeemable across IndiGo’s ecosystem, including flight bookings, seat upgrades, meals, and ancillary services
Annual Fee: The IndiGo SBI Card has an annual fee of  Rs.1,499 plus taxes, while the IndiGo SBI Card ELITE comes with an annual fee of Rs.4,999 plus taxes.

RBI Imposed Rs 2.7 Lakh Penalty on Muthoot FinCorp for Ombudsman Non-Compliance
In September 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed monetary penalty of Rs 2.7 lakh on Muthoot FinCorp Limited, flagship company of Muthoot Pappachan Group, India’s leading Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), fails to comply with certain norms on ‘Internal Ombudsman’.

• The monetary penalty was imposed under the clause (b) of sub-section (1) of Section 58G read with clause (aa) of sub-section (5) of Section 58B of the RBI Act, 1934.

Reason for Penalty:
Background: RBI conducted the statutory inspection of Muthoot FinCorp with reference to its financial position as of March 31, 2024.
Key Findings: RBI found that the company failed to establish a system of auto escalation of complaints that were partly or wholly rejected by its internal grievance redress mechanism to the internal Ombudsman.

National Geoscience Awards 2024 – President Droupadi Murmu Confers 20 GeoscientistsOn September 26, 2025, the President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the National Geoscience Awards (NGA) for 2024 of the Ministry of Mines (MoM) on 21 Geoscientists during a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi, Delhi.

Centre extends tenure of R. Venkataramani as AGI till September 30,2027On September 26,2025, The President of India and the Ministry of Law and Justice (MoL&J) have announced the re-appointment of Senior Advocate R.Venkataramani (75) as the Attorney General of India (AGI)  for two more years , effective from October 1,2025 to September 30,2027.

About R. Venkataramani:
Term: He appointed as 16th AGI of India and his present three-year term is about to end on September 30,2025
Succession: R. Venkataramani succeeded veteran jurist K.K. Venugopal as the Attorney General (AG) on September 30, 2022. He entered the office the next day.
Career: Venkataramani was born in Pondicherry on April 13, 1950, He enrolled as a lawyer in 1977 with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and joined the chambers of veteran lawyer P.P. Rao at the Supreme Court in 1979.
Law Commission of India: He was appointed as a member of the Law Commission of India in 2010, and again for a further term in 2013.
Author: He published a volume of his poems titled Roses Without Thorns last year. Besides, he has authored several books on constitutional law and the law of torts, and collaborated with the Supreme Court of India in publishing a book on Supreme Court Practice and Procedure and the Restatement of Indian Law relating to Public Interest Litigation.
About the Attorney General of India (AGI):
Constitutional Value: The Attorney General is the highest law officer of the Union Government (UG) and serves as its principal legal advisor. Appointed by the President under Article 76(1) of the Constitution, the Attorney General holds office during the President’s pleasure on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet (UC).

• According to the article 76(4), There is no fixed tenure for the AGI
• Under article 88, the AG shall have the right to speak and take part in all the proceedings of Lok sabha and Rajya sabha including joint sitting of the Houses, and any committee of Parliament for which he is added as a member. He is not subjected to vote.

Rights: The AG enjoys the right to be present in any court throughout the country.

Indian Air Force Retires MiG-21 Fighter AircraftOn September 26, 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) officially retired its iconic (Mikoyan-Gurevich) MiG-21 fighter jets in a grand decommissioning ceremony at the Chandigarh Air Force Station (known as 12 Wing, AF), Chandigarh.

• The Russian-origin supersonic jets, inducted in 1963, served as the backbone of India’s air power for more than six decades (62 years) marking the end of an era in Indian military aviation.

Farewell Ceremony Highlights:
Dignitaries: Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD), Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and senior veterans were present.
Final Flypast: The last batch of MiG-21s from No. 23 Squadron “Panthers” performed a ceremonial flypast.
Final Sortie: Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh flew the final sortie in call sign Badal 3. Squadron Leader Priya Sharma, one of IAF’s first female fighter pilots, became the last woman to fly the MiG-21. On landing, the jets were honoured with a water cannon salute.
Special Displays: The event featured a skydiving demonstration by IAF’s elite Akash Ganga team from 8,000 feet.
About the MiG:
Legacy: Inducted in 1963, the MiG-21 was India’s first supersonic fighter, with its maiden squadron the 28 Squadron at Chandigarh earning the nickname First Supersonics.
Operational Role: Over its lifetime, more than 870 MiG-21 aircraft were procured, many built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
Combat History: Played key roles in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, the 1971 India-Pakistan War, the 1999 Kargil Conflict, and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes.
Mixed Reputation: Known as the IAF’s “workhorse”, it also earned the nickname “flying coffin” due to accidents from aging fleets.

• More than 400 MiG-21s accidents took place, causing significant loss of life.

Future of the IAF Fleet
Replacement: The retired squadrons will be replaced by the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A, with No. 23 Squadron being the first to transition.
Planned Acquisitions: Expansion includes Rafale fighters and the indigenous Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) to modernize India’s aerial defense.

In September 2025, Ministry of Law and Justice (MoL&J), Government of India (GoI) announced the appointed Justice Sujoy Paul as the Acting Chief Justice (CJ) of the Calcutta High Court (HC), following the elevation of Justice Soumen Sen as CJ of the Meghalaya HC.

• Under Article 223 of the Constitution of India (CoI), the President, Droupadi Murmu, has appointed an acting CJ of a HC.

About Justice Sujoy Paul:
Legal Career: Enrolled as an Advocate in 1990 with the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh (MP), and practiced in Civil, Constitutional, Industrial, and Service Law.
Judicial Career: Elevated as Judge of the HC of MP (Jabalpur) on 27 May 2011 and made permanent on 14 April 2014; transferred to the Telangana HC on 26 March 2024.
Previous roles: Appointed to perform the duties of CJ of the Telangana HC from 21 January 2025, and later transferred as Judge of the Calcutta HC on 18 July 2025.
