Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Arunachal Pradesh & Tripura on September 22, 2025

On September 22, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Arunachal Pradesh (AR) and Tripura to lay foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects worth more than Rs.5,100 crores, focusing on infrastructure development, economic reforms, and cultural heritage preservation.

Highlights of the Visit:

In Arunachal Pradesh:

Hydropower Projects: Laid foundation stone of two major hydropower projects worth Rs.3,700 crores in Itanagar, AR.Both projects are to be developed jointly by the Arunachal Pradesh government and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) on the Yarjep River.

  • Heo Hydro Electric Project with the capacity of 240 Megawatt (MW), aimed at generating Renewable Energy (RE) to support the power needs in the region.
  •  Tato-I Hydro Electric Project, with the capacity of 186 MW, designed to enhance energy security and support local development.

Tawang Convention Centre: Laid foundation stone of Tawang Convention Centre in Tawang (AR). It is located at an altitude of over 9,820 feet, with the capacity to host 1,500 delegates, to promote tourism and cultural heritage, host national and international conferences, cultural festivals, and exhibitions.

Other Infrastructure Projects: Inaugurated key infrastructure projects worth Rs.1,290 crores, aimed at strengthening local infrastructure, including improved road networks and transport links to remote districts, and expansion of medical facilities.

  • It also includes installation of fire safety and emergency response systems, and establishing working women’s hostel, to boost the economy, quality of life, and enhance regional connectivity.

GST Campaign: Launched Goods and Services Tax (GST) 2.0 reforms to simplify taxation and reduce compliance burdens, ensuring relief for traders and boosting local businesses.

  • He also launched GST Bachat Utsav, a nationwide campaign, designed to raise awareness about the benefits of the new GST reforms, with an aim to promote indigenous products under the “Swadeshi” initiative.

In Tripura:

Tripura Sundari Temple: PM Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur in Gomati, Tripura, under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme. It is a 524-year-old and one of the 51 ‘Shakti Peethas’ temple, spanning across 6,784 square metres (sq.m).

  • It was redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs.54 crores, encompassing the fund from central government of Rs.34.43 crores and Rs.17.61 crores from the Government of Tripura.
  • It was constructed in the Bengali Ek-ratna style by King Dhanya Manikya of the Manikya dynasty in 1501

Redevelopment: It is designed in the shape of a tortoise when viewed from above and includes upgraded premises, new pathways, renovated entrances and fencing, improved drainage, a meditation hall, guest accommodations, a new three-storey complex with stalls, and office rooms.

Infrastructure: It also includes infrastructure developments such as improved connectivity, upgraded sanitation and hygiene facilities for pilgrims, enhanced fire safety, crowd management, and security systems.
