On September 10, 2025, the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi approved the following proposals:
- Doubling of Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampurhat single railway line in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal (WB) with the total cost of Rs.3,169 Crores.
- Construction of 4-lane Greenfield access-controlled Mokama Munger section of the Buxar-Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor in Bihar with budget outlay of Rs.4447.38 Crores.

Doubling of Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampurhat single railway line in Bihar:
Approval: The CCEA approved the doubling of the Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampurhat railway line, spanning across Jharkhand, Bihar and WB.
Outlay: The total budget outlay of the project is approximately Rs.3,169 crores, covering 5 districts in 3 states
Aim: The 177-kilometer(km) project, part of the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti – National Master Plan(PM GS -NMP), aims to improve transport and logistics by coordinating planning and consulting stakeholders for smooth movement of people, goods and services.
Coverage: The Multi-Tracking Projects will connect around 441 villages, about 28.7 lakh people, and three Aspirational Districts such as Banka, Godda, Dunka.
- It also provides rail connectivity to destinations such as Deoghar (Jharkhand)
Benefits: The upgraded railway lines will improve mobility, providing enhanced efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. Adding multiple tracks will reduce congestion and improve operations on busy routes.
Alignment: It aligns with the vision of PM Narendra Modi, New India, which will make people of the region “Self-Reliant”.
Significance: The route is key for transport of coal, cement, fertilizers, bricks, and stones. The capacity upgradation will enable additional freight traffic of magnitude 15 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA).
Construction of 4-lane Greenfield access-controlled Mokama Munger section in Bihar
Approval: The CCEA approved the construction of an 82.4 km, 4-lane greenfield access-controlled Mokama-Munger section of the Buxar (Bihar)- Bhagalpur High Speed Corridor in Bihar.
- This section will connect key regional cities of Bihar such as Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, and Munger.
Cost: The project, to be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), is estimated to cost Rs.4,447.38 crore.
Design: The project is designed for speeds up to 100 km per hour (Km/hr), reducing travel time around 1.5 hrs.
Benefits: The corridor will boost Eastern Bihar’s economy by improving access to industrial hubs in Jamalpur and Munger, and supporting logistics and warehousing sectors.
