Overview of Union Minister Amit Shah’s Two-Day Visit to Gujarat from August 30 to 31, 2025Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Cooperation , was on a two-day visit to Gujarat from August 30 to 31, 2025, to participate in celebration events and to inaugurate and launch various development projects.
Highlights of the Visit:
Urban Health Centre: Inaugurated two Urban Health Centres in the Gota Ward, built at a cost of approximately Rs.3.84 crores, and Chandoliya Ward, built at a cost of approximately Rs.3.76 crores, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Plantation Drive: He led a plantation drive along with the Chief Minister (CM) of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, encouraging citizens to plant trees in honor of their mothers.
Dial-112 ERSS: He launched the Dial-112 Janrakshak Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), a single toll-free emergency response number, integrating police, fire, ambulance, women and child helplines, and disaster response into a single streamlined platform.

• He flagged off a fleet of 500 specially equipped Janrakshak vehicles, deployed across Gujarat to quickly respond to emergency calls.
• As part of the initiative, a State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) has been operational 24×7 in Ahmedabad.

Sardar Baug Garden:  Inaugurated the redeveloped Sardar Baug Garden in Jamalpur, Ahmedabad. The garden, spanning approximately 26,050 square metres (sq m), was redeveloped under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model, with funding support of Rs.12 crores from the UNM foundation.

PRYMA Aerospace’s Arjuna Drone Earns DGCA Certification for Agriculture
In August 2025, PRYMA Aerospace Private Limited received Type Certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), under the Ministry of Civil Aviation(MoCA), for its Arjuna drone, enabling its deployment in agriculture.

About Arjuna Drone:
Drone: This drone is a homegrown, indigenously developed quadcopter r Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), classified as a small-class rotorcraft with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities.
Agricultural Applications: With this certification, the Arjuna drone can now be deployed for crop spraying and precision farming, boosting efficiency and promoting sustainable practices in Indian agriculture.
Drone Training : This approval comes after DGCA recognized PRYM’s Drone School of Excellence as a Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO), establishing India’s first end-to-end drone ecosystem, from manufacturing and pilot training to deployment through the Salam Kisan platform.

MoTA Launches ‘Adi Vaani’, India’s first AI-powered Translator for Tribal languageIn August 2025, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), announced the launch of the Beta Version of ‘Adi Vaani’ – India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered translator for Tribal languages.
About Adi Vaani:
Overview: It is an AI-powered translation tool envisioned as the groundwork for developing a future large language model focused on tribal languages.

• The project integrates advanced AI technologies with community-led initiatives to safeguard, promote, and rejuvenate tribal languages and cultures across India.

Collaboration: Developed by a national consortium of premier institutions led by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D), along with Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani), International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), and International Institute of Information Technology, Naya Raipur (IIIT-NR), in collaboration with Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) in Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Chhattisgarh, and Meghalaya.
Languages: In its Beta launch, Adi Vaani will support – Santali (Odisha), Bhili (MP), Mundari (Jharkhand), Gondi (Chhattisgarh).
Integration: This initiative supports India’s constitutional values of diversity and equality while promoting major national programs like Digital India, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, and Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan(PM JANMAN).

WaveX and IICT Mumbai Launched ‘Media Tech Incubator’ to Boost AVGC-XR Startups
In August 2025, WaveX, the startup program initiated by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) in partnership with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT-Mumbai), Maharashtra has announced the launch of a dedicated Media Tech Startup Incubator.

• This newly launched initiative is designed to support and nurture high-potential ventures in the AVGC-XR sector (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality).

About Media Tech Startup Incubator:
Two-phase Model: The new incubator will function on a two-phase model i.e. Active Phase and Passive Phase.

• Active Phase: In this phase, startups will receive support in areas like business modelling, product development, branding, fundraising, and media regulations, with sandbox testing opportunities in Over The Top (OTT), Visual Effects (VFX), Virtual Reality (VR), gaming, animation, publishing, and post-production.
• Passive Phase: This phase includes global showcases through Waves Bazaar, focus on lighter mentorship, investor engagement and industry associations.

Key Facilities: The incubator will offer various facilities such as: co-working spaces, Audiovisual(AV)/digital labs, hosting servers, high-speed Local Area Network (LAN)/Wireless Fidelity (Wi-fi), Amazon Web Services (AWS)/Google Cloud credits, among others.
Global Tech Giants: Programs will include masterclasses by global leaders from tech giants such as: Google, Microsoft, Amazon, among others, along with focused bootcamps, policy clinics, and investor connect sessions.
Governance: WaveX will administer the governance of the program with quarterly-basis reviews under the mentorship of MIB.
1st-Batch: As per MIB, 15 startups will be selected for the 1st batch of this new initiative in IICT Campus with a fee of Rs 8,500 including Goods and Services Tax (GST) per month.

• The last date to apply for the 1st –batch is September 07, 2025.

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Japan from August 29 to 30, 2025The Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi undertook a two-day official visit to Japan from August 29 to 30 2025, at the invitation of Shigeru Ishiba, PM of Japan. This marked PM Modi’s 8th visit to Japan and 1st to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
India-Japan Economic Forum: PM Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba attended the India-Japan Economic Forum held in Tokyo, Japan.The forum was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Keidanren, Japan Business Federation.
15th India-Japan Annual Summit: PM Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba attended the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit held at Kantei (Japan), the official resident of Japanese PM.

• Both India and Japan have expanded their Special Strategic and Global Partnership with the signing of 13 MoUs and other agreements covering human resource exchange, environment, digital technologies, space and cultural cooperation.

Investment: Japan has pledged to raise investments worth Japanese Yen (JPY) 10 trillion (approximately USD 65 billion) into India over the next 10 years.
Gift:During his 2-day visit to Japan, PM Modi was gifted with a traditional Daruma doll by Rev Seishi Hirose, Chief Priest of the Shorinzan Daruma-ji temple, Takasaki Gunma in Tokyo, Japan.

• He presented a set of vintage precious stone bowls with silver chopsticks to his Japanese counterpart Ishiba.
• He also presented a Kashmiri Pashmina Shawl made from the soft undercoat of the Changthangi goat (found in Ladakh, India) in hand-painted papier mache box   to the spouse of Japan’s PM.

India, Thailand Joint Military Exercise ‘Maitree 2025’ Begins in Umroi, MeghalayaOn September 1, 2025, the 14th edition of the “Exercise Maitree”, a joint annual military exercise between the Indian Army (IA) and the Royal Thai Army (RTA) has begun at the Foreign Training Node (FTN) in Umroi, Meghalaya.

• The exercise, scheduled from September 1 to 14, 2025, is designed to enhance the operational capabilities of IA and RTA in counter-terrorism operation in semi-urban terrain.

Background:
First edition: The exercise began in 2006, conducted alternatively by India and Thailand.
Maitree: The word “Maitree” means “friendship” in Sanskrit and Thai languages, symbolizing the historical, cultural, and defence ties between India and Thailand.
Aim: The exercise aims to share best practices and improve tactical coordination in alignment with United Nations (UN) peacekeeping standards.
Previous Edition: The 13th edition took place at Fort Vachiraprakan in Tak Province of Thailand.
Exercise Maitree 2025:
Participation: The exercise features combined training of infantry components, with each side typically contributing 50 to 76 soldiers.
Objectives: The key objectives of the exercise are to focus on the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in semi-urban and jungle terrain, to enhance joint planning, decision-making, and execution of military operations.

• It also aims to reinforce cooperation in maintaining peace and security in the Indo-Pacific and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)region.

Training Activities: The exercise comprises tactical drills such as establishing joint operation and surveillance centres, drones and counter-drone operations; Weapons training such as Close-quarter battle drills, live firing; Field Exercises such as Jungle warfare maneuvers; Mission Simulation, including Evacuation, hostage rescue, cordon-and-search operations.
Significance: India hosts the Exercise Maitree after 5 years since 2019.

SBI, AFD Signed EUR 100 Million LoC to Boost Green Financing in India
In August 2025, State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest Public Sector Bank (PSB), has signed a Line of Credit (LoC) agreement worth EUR 100 million with France based Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) at its Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) branch at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

• This strategic partnership aims to further boost India’s transition to a low-carbon economy while enhancing resilience to climate-related risks.

Key Details of MoU:
Funds Utilization: As per the agreement, the funds raised through this partnership will be utilised in climate mitigation actions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to slow down global warming and climate adaptation measures to adjust systems, practices, and infrastructure to minimize damage caused by climate change.
Key Role: This strategic partnership enables SBI to use AFD’s expertise in climate finance and align with global sustainability frameworks including support for innovative green technologies, project structuring, and ESG integration to ensure measurable environmental and social impact.
SBI Target: This collaboration is in alignment with SBI’s goal of achieving a green portfolio accounting for 7.5%-10% of its domestic gross advances by 2030.

Gov Appoints T.C.A Kalyani as 29th CGA with Immediate Effect On September 1, 2025, Government of India (GoI) appointed T.C.A Kalyani, a 1991 batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, as the 29th Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in the Department of Expenditure (DoE), Ministry of Finance (MoF) with immediate effect.

• She succeeds S.S. Dubey, who retires on August 31, 2025, after serving in the role since March 2023.

BHEL Signs an LAToT with DMRL Hyderabad to Manufacture Fused Silica Radar Domes
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), signed a License Agreement for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) with the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) Hyderabad (Telangana), a premier laboratory under Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in August 2025.

Purpose: The agreement empowers BHEL to produce fused silica radar domes (Radomes) a vital component used in seeker-based guidance systems of missiles—by adopting advanced Cold Isostatic Pressing and Sintering techniques.

• DMRL, recognized for advanced expertise in high-temperature alloys and ceramics, has transferred this strategically critical technology to BHEL.

Radar Domes: A Radome is a protective outer shell that covers a radar antenna or a missile seeker. It protects the sensitive radar systems from harsh environmental conditions such as heat, rain, dust, and aerodynamic forces.

• It ensures the onboard radar system can accurately track and guide weapons, even at supersonic speeds, for the missiles and aircraft.

DRDO Delivers Naval Flare System for Kalvari-Class Submarines to Indian Navy
On August 29, 2025, the Signal Star Naval Flare system, developed for the Kalvari-class submarines of Indian Navy (IN), to strengthen the underwater warfare capabilities of India, was handed over to Rear Admiral Rupak Barua, Director General of Naval Armament Inspection (DG-NAI), at a ceremony held in Pune, Maharashtra.

About Naval Flare System:
Developer: The system was developed by the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Technology: The naval flare system enhances submarine survivability by acting as a countermeasure against enemy torpedoes.

• It emits red and white lights while generating decoy heat and sound signals, confusing enemy torpedoes and sensors and directing them away from the submarine.

Mission: The development is part of a Mission-Mode Project (MMP), initiated by DRDO in March 2025, titled “Indigenous Development of Signal Flares (Green & Red)”

India Tops 16th Asian Shooting Championship with 50 Gold MedalsThe 16th Asian Shooting Championship was held from August 16 to 30, 2025, at the Shymkent Shooting Plaza in Shymkent,Kazakhstan. The competition featured 748 athletes from 27 countries across Asia participating in various shooting disciplines at senior and junior levels.

• India’s contingent of 35 senior shooters and 129 junior athletes created history by topping the medal tally for the first time, winning a total of 99 medals, including 50 gold, 26 silver, and 23 bronze.
• The championship was organized by the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) in collaboration with the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and the Kazakhstan Shooting Sport Federation.

India to Participate in Pickleball World Cup 2025 For First Time
On August 31, 2025, the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), the official National Sports Federation for Pickleball under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), announced India’s first-ever team to participate in the Pickleball World Cup 2025.

About Pickleball World Cup 2025:
World Cup: The selected team will compete in the Pickleball World Cup 2025, scheduled to be held under the Global Pickleball Federation, from October 27 to November 2, 2025, in Florida, United States of America (USA).
Team Composition: 14-member squad selected across three categories:Open Category, Under-16 Category and 50+ Category.
Alliance: India’s Global Sports (also known as Global Sports Pickleball), a sports management and promotion company, became a founding member of the world’s first Global Pickleball Alliance, which aims to create the world’s first professional global pickleball tour, starting in 2026.

• The alliance includes Association of Pickleball Players (APP) (USA), Canadian National Pickleball League (CNPL), European Pickleball Federation (EPF), National Pickleball League (NPL) (Australia), Pickleball England, and Pickleball D-Joy (Vietnam).

Oscar Piastri Wins Dutch Grand Prix 2025On 31 August 2025, Australian Formula One (F1) driver Oscar Piastri (McLaren) secured victory at the 35th edition of the Dutch Grand Prix 2025 held at Circuit Zandvoort, Netherlands. Piastri led all 72 laps, maintaining a consistent pace.

•  The Dutch Grand Prix 2025 was the fifteenth round of the 2025 Formula One World Championship and Oscar Piastri secured his seventh victory of the season.
• Piastri extended his lead to 34 points over Norris with 9 races remaining in the season.

Other Racing Highlights:
Podium Finish: Max Verstappen (Red Bull, Netherlands) secured second place on home soil, while Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls, France), aged 20, achieved his maiden Formula One podium, finishing third consistently throughout.
Teammate Exit: McLaren teammate Lando Norris retired on Lap 65 due to engine failure caused by an oil leak while running second, ending the team’s 1–2 dominance.

National Nutrition Week 2025 – September 1-7National Nutrition Week (NNW) is observed across India every year from 1st to 7th September as an important annual event to promote awareness about nutrition.
Theme:
2025 Theme: “Eat Right for a Better Life.”
Focus: The theme highlighted the importance of adopting balanced diets, safe food practices, and mindful eating habits to improve overall health and well-being.

Background:
Origin : The idea of NNW was first introduced by the American Dietetic Association (now the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) in 1975, with the goal of spreading awareness on the importance of nutrition and promoting dietetics as a profession.
Adoption in India : India began observing National Nutrition Week in 1982 to address the challenges of widespread malnutrition and deficiencies in essential micronutrients.

• The observance was initiated in 1982 by the Food and Nutrition Board(FNB), Ministry of Women & Child Development(MoWCD).

FNB: The FNB was established in 1964 and was later dissolved in 2018, with its functions integrated into other government nutrition programmes.
Leadership: This initiative is spearheaded by the MoWCD.
Significance of NNW 2025:
Global Commitment: It reinforces India’s dedication to achieving the United Nations(UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – Zero Hunger.
Healthy Living: It promotes healthy lifestyle choices to help prevent and manage Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
Government Campaigns: The government carries out nationwide nutrition campaigns through various ministries, aligning them with key schemes such as POSHAN Abhiyaan (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition), the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Programme, and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
About POSHAN Abhiyaan:
POSHAN Abhiyaan (2018): Launched by the Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi on 8th March 2018 in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, this flagship programme of the Government of India(GoI) focuses on improving the nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
POSHAN 2.0: An integrated version of the scheme, POSHAN 2.0 was approved for the period of 2021-22 to 2025-26.
