Overview of Union Minister Amit Shah’s Two-Day Visit to Gujarat from August 30 to 31, 2025Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Cooperation , was on a two-day visit to Gujarat from August 30 to 31, 2025, to participate in celebration events and to inaugurate and launch various development projects.
Highlights of the Visit:
Urban Health Centre: Inaugurated two Urban Health Centres in the Gota Ward, built at a cost of approximately Rs.3.84 crores, and Chandoliya Ward, built at a cost of approximately Rs.3.76 crores, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Plantation Drive: He led a plantation drive along with the Chief Minister (CM) of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, encouraging citizens to plant trees in honor of their mothers.
Dial-112 ERSS: He launched the Dial-112 Janrakshak Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), a single toll-free emergency response number, integrating police, fire, ambulance, women and child helplines, and disaster response into a single streamlined platform.

  • He flagged off a fleet of 500 specially equipped Janrakshak vehicles, deployed across Gujarat to quickly respond to emergency calls.
  • As part of the initiative, a State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) has been operational 24×7 in Ahmedabad.

Sardar Baug Garden:  Inaugurated the redeveloped Sardar Baug Garden in Jamalpur, Ahmedabad. The garden, spanning approximately 26,050 square metres (sq m), was redeveloped under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model, with funding support of Rs.12 crores from the UNM foundation.

MoTA Launches ‘Adi Vaani’, India’s first AI-powered Translator for Tribal languageIn August 2025, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), announced the launch of the Beta Version of ‘Adi Vaani’ – India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered translator for Tribal languages.
About Adi Vaani:
Overview: It is an AI-powered translation tool envisioned as the groundwork for developing a future large language model focused on tribal languages.

  • The project integrates advanced AI technologies with community-led initiatives to safeguard, promote, and rejuvenate tribal languages and cultures across India.

Collaboration: Developed by a national consortium of premier institutions led by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D), along with Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani), International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), and International Institute of Information Technology, Naya Raipur (IIIT-NR), in collaboration with Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) in Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Chhattisgarh, and Meghalaya.

In August 2025, WaveX, the startup program initiated by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) in partnership with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT-Mumbai), Maharashtra has announced the launch of a dedicated Media Tech Startup Incubator.

  • This newly launched initiative is designed to support and nurture high-potential ventures in the AVGC-XR sector (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality).

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Japan from August 29 to 30, 2025The Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi undertook a two-day official visit to Japan from August 29 to 30 2025, at the invitation of Shigeru Ishiba, PM of Japan. This marked PM Modi’s 8th visit to Japan and 1st to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
India-Japan Economic Forum: PM Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba attended the India-Japan Economic Forum held in Tokyo, Japan.The forum was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Keidanren, Japan Business Federation.
15th India-Japan Annual Summit: PM Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba attended the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit held at Kantei (Japan), the official resident of Japanese PM.

  • Both India and Japan have expanded their Special Strategic and Global Partnership with the signing of 13 MoUs and other agreements covering human resource exchange, environment, digital technologies, space and cultural cooperation.

Investment: Japan has pledged to raise investments worth Japanese Yen (JPY) 10 trillion (approximately USD 65 billion) into India over the next 10 years.
Gift:During his 2-day visit to Japan, PM Modi was gifted with a traditional Daruma doll by Rev Seishi Hirose, Chief Priest of the Shorinzan Daruma-ji temple, Takasaki Gunma in Tokyo, Japan.

  • He presented a set of vintage precious stone bowls with silver chopsticks to his Japanese counterpart Ishiba.

India, Thailand Joint Military Exercise ‘Maitree 2025’ Begins in Umroi, MeghalayaOn September 1, 2025, the 14th edition of the “Exercise Maitree, a joint annual military exercise between the Indian Army (IA) and the Royal Thai Army (RTA) has begun at the Foreign Training Node (FTN) in Umroi, Meghalaya.

  • The exercise, scheduled from September 1 to 14, 2025, is designed to enhance the operational capabilities of IA and RTA in counter-terrorism operation in semi-urban terrain.

Participation: The exercise features combined training of infantry components, with each side typically contributing 50 to 76 soldiers.
Objectives: The key objectives of the exercise are to focus on the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in semi-urban and jungle terrain, to enhance joint planning, decision-making, and execution of military operations.

  • It also aims to reinforce cooperation in maintaining peace and security in the Indo-Pacific and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)region.

Training Activities: The exercise comprises tactical drills such as establishing joint operation and surveillance centres, drones and counter-drone operations; Weapons training such as Close-quarter battle drills, live firing; Field Exercises such as Jungle warfare maneuvers; Mission Simulation, including Evacuation, hostage rescue, cordon-and-search operations.
Significance: India hosts the Exercise Maitree after 5 years since 2019.

SBI, AFD Signed EUR 100 Million LoC to Boost Green Financing in India
In August 2025, State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest Public Sector Bank (PSB), has signed a Line of Credit (LoC) agreement worth EUR 100 million with France based Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) at its Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) branch at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

  • This strategic partnership aims to further boost India’s transition to a low-carbon economy while enhancing resilience to climate-related risks.

BHEL Signs an LAToT with DMRL Hyderabad to Manufacture Fused Silica Radar Domes
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), signed a License Agreement for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) with the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) Hyderabad (Telangana), a premier laboratory under Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in August 2025.

DRDO Delivers Naval Flare System for Kalvari-Class Submarines to Indian Navy
On August 29, 2025, the Signal Star Naval Flare system, developed for the Kalvari-class submarines of Indian Navy (IN), to strengthen the underwater warfare capabilities of India, was handed over to Rear Admiral Rupak Barua, Director General of Naval Armament Inspection (DG-NAI), at a ceremony held in Pune, Maharashtra.

India Tops 16th Asian Shooting Championship with 50 Gold MedalsThe 16th Asian Shooting Championship was held from August 16 to 30, 2025, at the Shymkent Shooting Plaza in Shymkent,Kazakhstan. The competition featured 748 athletes from 27 countries across Asia participating in various shooting disciplines at senior and junior levels.

  • India’s contingent of 35 senior shooters and 129 junior athletes created history by topping the medal tally for the first time, winning a total of 99 medals, including 50 gold, 26 silver, and 23 bronze.

POSHAN Abhiyaan (2018): Launched by the Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi on 8th March 2018 in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, this flagship programme of the Government of India(GoI) focuses on improving the nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
POSHAN 2.0: An integrated version of the scheme, POSHAN 2.0 was approved for the period of 2021-22 to 2025-26.

  • It consolidates and strengthens nutrition-related interventions to ensure wider coverage and better outcomes.
