On July 25, 2025, President Draupadi Murmu completed the 3rd year of her term of 5 years. To commemorate this occasion, she launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility, promoting sustainability, and fostering public engagement at Rashtrapati Bhavan and President’s estates in New Delhi, Delhi.
- President Draupadi Murmu, the first tribal President, assumed office as 15th President of India on 25 July 2022.
- She became the second woman to serve as President of India, following Pratibha Patil(2007 – 2012).
Key Initiatives Launched:
Divyangjan-friendly access: Rashtrapati Bhavan, Amrit Udyan, and Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum have been made fully accessible for persons with disabilities (Divyanjan).
- The initiative was undertaken after the implementation of a 50-point recommendation by the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities.
Rashtrapati Bhavan website: The official website of Rashtrapati Bhavan and President of India are now made accessible in 22 Indian languages, to enhance linguistic diversity and promote inclusivity.
Visitor Amenities: Several initiatives were launched in different places for the visitors, including Visitor Facilitation Centre at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Nilayam Nikunj (recreational space) at Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad, Telangana; reception area, cafeteria, and souvenir shop at Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra (Himachal Pradesh, HP); and a renovated Gym at the President’s estate in New Delhi.
E-Upahaar season 2:Â As part of this initiative, more than 250 gifts received by the President of India are auctioned online, with the proceeds donated to support child welfare programs.
Electronic (e)-book: An e-book, compiling the past one year of the Presidency which includes President’s engagements, speeches, and initiatives was launched.
Net Zero by 2027: Several initiatives were commenced to make Rashtrapati Bhavan Net Zero by 2027.
About Draupadi Murmu:
Birth: President Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 at Uparbeda village in Mayurbhanj, Odisha.
Early career: She worked as a teacher at a local school before going into public service.
Political Career in Odisha: Her political career started in 1997 as a councillor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and was elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Rairangpur(Odisha) in 2000 and 2004, serving as Minister of State for Commerce and Transport (2000–02) and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (2002–04).
Governor: From 2015 to 2021, she served as the first woman Governor of Jharkhand.
Presidential Election: In June 2022, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) chose Draupadi Murmu as their presidential candidate. She won the election, beating the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.
