Cabinet Approvals on June 25, 2025On June 25 2025, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has approved the following proposals/schemes:
i.Approved a proposal to set up the South Asia regional centre of Lima (Peru) based International Potato Centre at Singna, Agra in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
ii.The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the Revised Jharia Master Plan (JMP) worth Rs 5,940.47 crore, to deal with issues related to fire, land subsidence, and the rehabilitation of affected families in the Jharia Coalfield.
iii.Approved the Pune Metro Rail Project Phase-2: Vanaz to Chandani Chowk (Corridor 2A) and Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (Corridor 2B).
iv.Passed a resolution to mark the 50th anniversary of proclamation of National Emergency as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Divas’.

India’s 1st AI-powered Smart Traffic System Launched on Dwarka Expressway in DelhiIn June 2025, India launched its 1st Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) project on the Dwarka Expressway(NH 248-BB) in Delhi. This new system is in alignment with the latest 2023 guidelines of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), marking a major step towards smart and safer highways.
- The ATMS was developed by New Delhi (Delhi) based Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL). NHAI is responsible for the overall implementation of this new system.
- This data-driven management ensures faster response times, fewer delays, and safer commutes.
About ATMS:
i.The ATMS implementation spans over an area of 56.46 kilometer (km), with 28 kilometer (km) situated along the Dwarka Expressway while the remaining area is located on NH-48, stretching from Shiv Murti to Kherki Daula.
ii.ATMS is integrated with Delhi based National Informatics Centre (NIC)-developed ‘e–challan portal’, which informs about traffic violations to the relevant police authorities.
iii.The new system comprises 5 key components which help in detecting and addressing various types of traffic violations and incidents and these are:
- Traffic Monitoring Camera System (TMCS): It features 110 high-resolution Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras installed at 1-km intervals with round-the-clock surveillance;
- Video Incident Detection and Enforcement System (VIDES): Helps detect traffic violations such as overspeeding, non-compliance with seatbelt regulations, and triple riding on two-wheelers.
- Variable Message Signboards (VMS): Delivers live traffic updates along with essential safety tips to assist motorists in making informed driving decisions.
- Vehicle Actuated Speed Display System (VASD):Provides real-time speed alerts to drivers, helping them stay informed about their current driving speed.
- Central Command Control Room: It will act as the digital brain of the corridor, which integrates with local and national systems to enable quick deployment of emergency units during accidents, fog conditions, road obstructions, among others.
iv.The ATMS is being acknowledged as a national benchmark for implementing AI-driven traffic management and road safety solutions.

MoRD & MSDE Sign MoU to Empower Rural Women SHGs through Skilling and EntrepreneurshipThe Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to strengthen the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi (Delhi).
- The MoU aims to empower women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) via structured skilling, entrepreneurship development, and market-oriented livelihood support, particularly targeting the Lakhpati Didi initiative and advance the Viksit Bharat@2047.
- The MoU will remain in effect for three years, with a Joint Review Committee constituted for quarterly monitoring of progress and outcomes.
Key People: The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, MoRD; Union Minister of State (MoS) Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, MoRD; Union MoS(Independent Charge, IC) Jayant Chaudhary, MSDE along with other senior officials both ministries.
Key Focus Areas of the MoU:
i.Customized Training Modules for SHG women in digital literacy, financial literacy, compliance, and market access.
ii.Training delivery through Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS), Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs), National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs).
iii.Skill Certification to be provided via the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).
iv.Integration of SHG Skilling with District Skill Development Plans (DSDPs) through District Skill Committees (DSCs).
v.Implementation of livelihood fairs, mentorship programmes, and awareness campaigns to support rural entrepreneurship and visibility.
About Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM):
i.The DAY-NRLM is a flagship programme of the MoRD, Government of India (GoI), aims to reduce rural poverty by empowering women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), providing access to financial services and sustainable livelihoods.
ii.It was launched as Aajeevika – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) in June 2011, replacing the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY)
iii.In March 2016 it was renamed as Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).
iv.The Union Budget 2025–26 has allocated Rs. 15,047 crore to DAY-NRLM for the Financial Year 2025–26 (FY26).
v.As of 2024, the mission has successfully mobilized over 10.05 crore women into more than 90.86 lakh SHGs spanning 28 states and 6 Union Territories(UT).
GoI Approved Rs 417 Crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in UP under EMC 2.0 SchemeIn June 2025, the Government of India (GoI) approved the establishment of a Rs 417 crore Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) under the Modified EMC 2.0 scheme in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh (UP). This new project aims to drive local manufacturing and innovation.
- The project was reviewed by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); and Union Minister of State (MoS) Jitin Prasada, MeitY.
About EMC in UP:
i.This newly approved EMC project will be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The proposed cluster will be spread over an area of 200 acres and is expected to attract investment worth Rs 2,500 crore.
ii.The total approved outlay of Rs.417 crore for the project excludes the cost of land. It includes Rs.144 crore from the MeitY, with the remaining funding to be provided by the YEIDA.
iii.The proposed cluster will support manufacturing across various sectors such as: consumer electronics, automotive and industrial electronics, medical devices, computer hardware, and communication equipment.

UAE-India CEPA Council Launches Start-up Series to Boost InnovationIn June 2025, the United Arab Emirates (UAE)-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) Council (UICC), in collaboration with the Embassy of the UAE in India, launched the ‘UAE-India CEPA Start-up Series’ during a high-level event held in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The initiative aims to enhance innovation-driven ties and support Indian start-ups in expanding globally under the framework of the UAE-India CEPA.
- Ahmed Aljneibi, Director of UICC and Abdulnasser Alshaali, UAE Ambassador to India, along with other dignitaries, attended the event.
Key Highlights:
i.The event featured the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the UICC and several academic and entrepreneurial institutions including:
- PRIME (Promotion and Incubation of Market-Driven Enterprises), an initiative of Meghalaya supported by the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA)
- IDEATE Lab at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), Haryana
- Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, Delhi
ii.The initiative will conclude with a pitch event , where five selected start-ups will be awarded a UAE soft-landing package to support their global expansion journey.
- This package will include:Incubation support; Business licensing; Tailored mentorship; and Access to leading UAE investors, innovation hubs, and free zone network.
iii.A dedicated microsite for the Start-up Series was also launched alongside a promotional trailer inviting applications from promising Indian ventures.
Points to Note:
i.In the fiscal year 2023-24(FY24), UAE-India bilateral trade reached USD 83.64 billion, recording a 15% year-on-year growth since CEPA came into effect.
ii.UAE’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India tripled from USD 1.03 billion in FY 2021-22 to USD 3.35 billion in FY 2022-23, making UAE India’s fourth-largest investor.
iii.Since 2000, UAE-based investors have infused USD 20 billion into the Indian economy.

ECoR Launches ‘ECoR Yatra’ App for Puri Rath Yatra Pilgrims
In June 2025, Bhubaneswar (Odisha) based East Coast Railway (ECoR)has introduced the ‘ECoR Yatra’ mobile application(app) to enhance rail services for devotees attending the Rath Yatra (June 25 to July 7, 2025) in Puri, Odisha.
- The Android-based app serves as a comprehensive digital guide for pilgrims, offering real-time updates on train schedules and passenger amenities.
i.The ECoR Yatra App serves as a comprehensive one-stop digital platform for passengers to efficiently plan their travel, access transport-related services, and receive timely updates on various railway facilities.
ii.The app offers detailed information on special train schedules, the regular train time-table, live train running status, and platform details.
- It also provides updates on lodging options, tourist facilities, ticket counters, and booking assistance, ensuring a seamless travel experience for pilgrims attending the Rath Yatra.
iii.With an intuitive user interface (UI) and multilingual support, the app serves a Pan-India user base, ensuring pilgrims from diverse linguistic and regional backgrounds can navigate it with ease.
iv.Indian Railways(IR) has launched a new scheme offering Rs.1 crore compensation to the families of its employees in the event of accidental death, without requiring any insurance premium.
- Railway employees holding a Salary Package Account with designated partner banks are eligible to receive the benefit.
CBSE Introduces Biannual Class 10 Board Exams from 2026
In June 2025, New Delhi (Delhi) based Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), under the Ministry of Education(MoE), has approved a biannual (occurring twice a year) examination system for its Class 10 students, effective from 2026 academic session.
- The new CBSE norm aims to reduce the pressure on students appearing for board exams by providing them with two opportunities in a year.
- This move aligns with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
i.All students must appear for the first phase of board exams scheduled in February. The second phase, held in May, is optional and allows students to improve their performance.
ii.Results for the first phase will be announced in April, and for the second phase in June.
iii.Internal assessments will continue to be conducted only once during the academic session.
iv.Students can opt to improve their scores in any three subjects, including Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages.
- Students failing in one or two subjects will be placed in the ‘Compartment’ category and can reappear in the second phase.
v.Students from winter-bound schools have the flexibility to choose either of the two phases to appear for their exams.

IFFCO Establishes First Overseas Nano Fertilizer Plant in Brazil
In June 2025, New Delhi (Delhi) based Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) announced a Joint Venture(JV) with Brazilian company NANOFERT (Nano-Fertilizers) to establish its nano-fertiliser manufacturing plant in Campina Grande do Sul, Paraná, Brazil. This will be the first nano-inputs plant in Brazil.
- IFFCO, in collaboration with Brazilian partners NANOFERT and minority stakeholders Fausto Caron and Ritesh Sharma, will invest USD 12 million to establish a production and research facility in Paraná.
i.The plant will be developed through a 70:30 joint venture between IFFCO’s subsidiary, IFFCO Nanoventions Limited, and NANOFERT. It will produce 4.5 million litres of nano-fertilizers each year.
ii.The project is backed by the Paraná Competitivo program, which provides tax benefits and asset purchase incentives under the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) framework.
ii.IFFCO had launched the world’s first Nano Liquid Urea in June 2021, followed by the launch of Nano Di-Ammonium Phosphate (Nano-DAP) in April 2023 to reduce India’s dependence on imported fertilisers.
- IFFCO has exported nano fertilisers to over 40 countries, including the United States of America (USA), Brazil, Slovenia, Mauritius, Zambia, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
Note: Nano fertilizers are plant nutrients encapsulated within nanomaterials measuring 100 nanometres(nm) or less.
BANKING & FINANCE
India emerged top destinations in global south for greenfield investments with USD 114 Bn: RBI reportAs per the June 2025 bulletin report released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India has emerged as the top destination in the global south for greenfield investments in the digital economy.
- The report stated that India received a total of USD 114 billion (bn) in greenfield investment in digital economy sectors between 2020 and 2024.
- This is the highest among all the countries in the global south, highlighting India’s growing role in the global digital economy.
Key Highlights from the report:
i.The Gross inward foreign direct investment (FDI) amounted to USD 8.8 bn in April 2025, higher than USD 5.9 bn in March 2025 and USD 7.2 bn in April 2024.
- In April 2025, manufacturing and business services accounted for nearly half of the gross FDI inflows.
ii.This surge in FDI has positioned India as the 16th largest recipient of FDI globally.
iii.With respect to outward FDI, there was a rise alongside a slowdown in repatriation, indicating higher overseas investments and fewer returns.
- Top sectors for outward FDI included electricity, gas and water, and financial, insurance and business services, while major destinations included Singapore, Mauritius, and Germany.
iv.As a result of the inward and outward FDI movements, the net FDI inflows recorded in April 2025 was USD 3.9 bn, more than double the level in April 2024.
v.Similarly, the Foreign Portfolio Investments (FPI) recorded net inflows of USD 1.7 bn in May 2025, mainly driven by the equity segment.
Note: Repatriation is the process of bringing money or profits earned abroad back to the home country.

Key Features:
i.The collaboration will enable Equitas SFB’s customers to access a wide range of Edelweiss Life Insurance products, including:Protection Plans, Savings Plans, Endowment Plans and Unit Linked Insurance Plans (ULIPs).
ii.The partnership is expected to help both institutions build a strong ecosystem for wealth creation, financial protection, and best-in-class insurance advisory.

RBI Extends Call Money Market Timings by 2 hours from July 01, 2025
In June 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the trading hours for the interbank call money market by 2 hours with effect from July 01, 2025.
- As per RBI directions, the call money market will now operate from 9 am to 7pm instead of current 9 am to 5 pm.
- RBI has also revised the closing time for Market Repo and Tri-party Repo (TREP) transactions from around 2:30–3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., effective August 1, 2025.
Key Points:
i.These revised timings are based on the recommendations of the Working Group chaired by Radha Shyam Ratho, Executive Director (ED), RBI.
- This working group was constituted by RBI in February 2025, to undertake a comprehensive review of trading and settlement timings of financial markets regulated by the central bank.
ii.RBI has clarified that the trading hours for the government securities, foreign exchange, and interest rate derivatives markets will remain unchanged.
Note: The call money market is exclusively accessed by banks and Standalone Primary Dealers (SPDs) who are participants with access to the liquidity adjustment facilities of the RBI.
Bank of Baroda Launches bob Flexi Systematic Deposit Plan
On 25 June 2025, Vadodara (Gujarat) based Bank of Baroda (BOB) launched the bob Flexi Systematic Deposit Plan (bob Flexi SDP), a new Recurring Deposit (RD) plan that allows customers to increase their monthly contributions.
- The plan is designed to offer flexibility along with assured returns, with an aim to support goal-based savings such as education, travel, or emergencies.
i.The bob Flexi SDP allows customers to raise their monthly deposit by up to 10 times their base instalment, subject to a maximum deposit of Rs. 1 lakh per month. The minimum contribution starts at Rs. 500, and additional deposits can be made in multiples of Rs.100.
ii.The bob Flexi SDP offers a higher fixed interest rate for the entire tenure of the plan, which ranges from 6 months to 5 years.
iii.The plan provides additional benefits such as loan/Overdraft facility of up to 95% of the deposited amount and Nomination facility.
iv.Under this plan, the customers can lock in a fixed and higher rate of interest on each monthly contribution made for the full duration of the deposit, even though contributions are made in monthly tranches.
- Hence, while each subsequent deposit is made for a shorter duration, customers continue to earn a higher rate of interest applicable for that tenure.

Reliance Defence Secures Rs 600 Crore Ammunition Export Order from Germany’s Rheinmetall
On 25 June 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra)-based Reliance Defence Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure(R-Infra), secured an export order worth Rs 600 crore from Germany based Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, a leading global defence and ammunition manufacturer.
- This order is part of a long-term agreement to supply large-calibre ammunition over six years, with production at Reliance’s upcoming facility in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.
i.This order follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in May 2025, where Reliance will supply explosives and propellants for Rheinmetall’s medium- and large-calibre ammunition.
ii.RDL will set up an integrated facility for explosives, ammunition, and small arms under the Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC) at Watad, Ratnagiri
- It will be the largest greenfield defence project by a private firm in India, supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative through advanced manufacturing and exports.
iii.This partnership marks the third major defence collaboration for Reliance Defence, following joint ventures(jv) with France based Dassault Aviation and Thales Group of France, further solidifying its position in the global defence industry.

Brand Finance India 100 Ranking 2025: Tata Group Retains Top Position with USD 31.6 B Brand ValueOn 25 June 2025, London (United Kingdom, UK) based Brand Finance, an independent brand valuation consultancy, released the India 100 Ranking 2025, highlighting total brand value of India’s top 100 brands has surged to USD 236.5 billion, reflecting the strong growth of India’s corporate sector.
- Tata Group retained its 1st rank, becoming the first Indian brand to surpass USD 30 billion, with a brand value of USD 31.6 billion, marking a 10% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) increase.
i.Infosys Limited came in 2nd place, with its brand value rising by 15% to USD 16.3 billion, keeping its top spot in the Information Technology(IT) Services sector. At the same time, HDFC Group ranked 3rd, growing 37% to USD 14.2 billion, strengthening its role as a major leader in financial services.
ii.The other brands in the top 10 include State Bank of India (SBI) at 6th, HCL Technologies Limited (HCLTech) at 7th, Bharti Airtel Limited (Airtel) at 8th, Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) at 9th, and Mahindra Group at 10th position.
iii.Taj Hotels, for the 4th consecutive year, holds the title of the strongest Indian brand with a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 92.2 out of 100 and AAA+ rating.

Axiom Space Launches Ax-4 Mission to ISS Carrying Astronauts from USA, India, Poland & HungaryOn 25 June 2025, exas (United States of America, USA) based Axiom Space, in collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Space Exploration Technologies Corporation(SpaceX), launched its fourth private mission, Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), to the International Space Station (ISS). The crew lifted off aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which propelled the new Dragon spacecraft named ‘Grace’ into orbit from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA.
- The crew members are Peggy Whitson (USA), Subhanshu Shukla (India), Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski (Poland) and Tibor Kapu (Hungary).
- This mission marks the first ISS visits by astronauts from India, Poland, and Hungary, and their second government-sponsored human spaceflights in over 40 years.
- The Ax-4 mission will last for 14 days, during which the crew will stay aboard the ISS.

i.On June 25, 2025, Axiom Space signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad (Telangana)-based Skyroot Aerospace Private Limited, India’s leading private space launch service provider, to collaborate on enhancing access to Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), research payloads, orbital data centers, and future missions to Axiom Station.
ii.The agreement was signed by Tejpaul Bhatia, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Axiom Space, and Pawan Kumar Chandana, CEO of Skyroot Aerospace.

In June 2025, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), released a book titled “The Emergency Diaries – Years that Forged a Leader”, during an event held in New Delhi, Delhi, to mark ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’, commemorating the anti-Emergency movement in India. The book was published by New Delhi based BlueKraft Digital Foundation Private Limited.
