7th Helicopter & Small Aircraft Summit Held in Pune, MaharashtraIn June 2025, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra(GoM); Noida (Uttar Pradesh, UP) based Pawan Hans Limited and New Delhi (Delhi) based Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) jointly organized the 7th Helicopter & Small Aircraft Summit in Pune, Maharashtra.

  • The summit was inaugurated by Rammoham Naidu Kinjarapu, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), while Minister of State(MoS) Murlidhar Mohol, MoCA attended as the Guest of Honour.
  • The summit marked a major step toward shaping the rotary and small aircraft ecosystem of India, and addressing real-world challenges in operations, infrastructure, emergency services and sustainable growth strategies.

Key Participants: 
The summit saw participation from 20 state governments, industry leaders, International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) (GIFT City), the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and senior officials from the MoCA, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Pawan Hans Limited.
Key Points:
i.During the summit, Union Minister Rammohan Naidu announced the creation of a dedicated Helicopter Directorate under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to offer single-window regulatory oversight.

  • This directorate will focus on addressing helicopter-specific safety and certification concerns while guiding operators on procedural and compliance requirements.

ii.He highlighted digital initiatives like: the Heli Seva Portal, which have streamlined operations and digitized processes such as: route approvals and slot allocations, which helps in enhancing transparency and efficiency.
iii.The summit organised technical sessions on DGCA safety regulations, financing and leasing opportunities led by IFSCA and operational challenges for OEMs and operators.

  • Also, discussions were held on latest policy initiatives supporting helicopters and small operations, including the launch of UDAN 5.1 for helicopters, revised DGCA regulations simplifying aircraft certification and pilot training and the introduction of guidelines for seaplane operations under of Regional Connectivity Scheme-Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (RCS-UDAN 5.5).

iv.The summit also witnessed the award of  RCS-UDAN helicopter routes across various states of the country.

MSDE & MoWCD Jointly Launches ‘NAVYA’ for Skilling Adolescent Girls
On 24 June 2025, Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has launched the joint pilot initiative ‘Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls (NAVYA)’ in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

  • The programme was jointly launched by the Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Jayant Chaudhary, MSDE, and MoS Savitri Thakur, MWCD.
  • This initiative marks a key milestone in advancing the broader women-led development goals under the Viksit Bharat@2047 mission.

About NAVYA Programme:
i.NAVYA is a pilot initiative aimed at equipping adolescent girls aged 16-18 years with a minimum qualification of Class 10, with vocational training mainly in non-traditional job roles.
ii.Girls, identified by MoWCD, will be trained through short-term skill development courses under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and and Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana (PMVY), with the potential to eventually establish small businesses of their own.

EXIM Bank Organizes Trade Conclave 2025 to Strengthen Export Growth
On 24 June 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Export Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) hosted the Trade Conclave 2025 in New Delhi (Delhi). This significant event focused on strategies to build export-led growth essential for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

  • The event witnessed participation of Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA); Union Minister of State (MoS) Pankaj Chaudhary, MoF; M. Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS), MoF; Harsha Bangari, Managing Director (MD) of EXIM Bank of India and other officials.

Highlights of the conclave:
i.India’s total exports surged to an all-time high of USD 825 billion (approx. Rs. 68.7 lakh crore) in Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25), registering a robust 6.3% growth.
ii.India’s export growth outperformed the global trade growth of 4%. This rise is mainly due to sectors supported by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. PLI-backed exports have crossed Rs 5.3 lakh crore (USD 62 billion), driven by electronics, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and telecom industries.
iii.During the conclave, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman virtually inaugurated new EXIM Bank offices in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh, UP), Indore (Madhya Pradesh, MP), and São Paulo (Brazil). These offices will support exporters and facilitate market access.
iv.EXIM Bank signed a technical assistance with Kanpur (UP) based Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) to support high-potential startups.

Govt to Set Up SMR-based Nuclear Power Plant in Nawada, BiharOn June 24, 2025, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)announced the establishment of a Small Modular Reactor (SMR)-based nuclear power plant in Nawada district of Bihar at the 5th Regional Conference for the Eastern States/ Union Territories (UT) in Patna, Bihar.

  • Bihar will be among the first six states in India to get its first atomic plant under the Nuclear Energy Mission (NEM) of India.

About the Nuclear Power Plant:
i.It will be the first nuclear power plant in eastern India, which will address power deficit in Bihar. It will fuel industrial growth, improve grid reliability, and support the economic ambitions of Bihar.
ii.Government of India (GOI) has also approved a 1,000-Megawatt (MW) battery storage project in Bihar, The government will provide viability gap funding of Rs 18 lakh per MW for this initiative..
Small Modular Reactor (SMR):
i.Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) is a class of small nuclear fission reactor have a power capacity of up to 300 MW per unit, which is one-third of the generating capacity of the traditional nuclear power reactors.
ii.It is smaller in size, requires lower land and water requirements.
iii.Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is developing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for repurposing retiring coal-based power plants.
iv.It can be deployed in smaller grids and are considered safe due to their advanced design.
Nuclear Energy Mission (NEM):
i.NEM is a key initiative launched by the GOI, with an aim to expand clean and reliable nuclear power across India and enhance regional energy security.
ii.It was announced in the Union Budget 2025 with a budget of Rs. 20,000 Crores aiming to develop at least five indigenously designed and operational SMRs by 2033.

MHI Launched Portal for Applications under SPMEPCI to Promote EV Manufacturing
On 24th June 2025, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Government of India (GoI), launched the online application portal under the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMEPCI), with the aim to attract global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and promote India as a hub for electric car production.

  • This scheme aims to strengthen the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives and contribute to India’s commitment to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2070.
  • The portal was launched by Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Steel (MoHI&S), in the presence of Shri Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, MoHI, and Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, MoHI.

i.The application portal for the scheme, accessible at spmepci.heavyindustries.gov.in, was launched on 24th June 2025 and will remain open for submissions till 21st October 2025.
ii.The scheme aims to promote domestic manufacturing of electric passenger vehicles, encourage global EV manufacturers to set up production bases in India and generate employment and boost technological innovation in the EV sector.
iii.It mandates a minimum investment of Rs 4,150 crore from approved applicants within three years of approval from MHI.
iv.The scheme also includes domestic value addition (DVA) targets to strengthen indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

EPFO Raises Auto-Settlement Limit for Advance Claims to Rs 5 Lakhs
In June 2025, New Delhi(Delhi)-based Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has increased the auto-settlement limit for advance claims from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, as announced by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Ministry of Labour & Employment(MoL&E).

  • This enhancement ensures faster access to funds for EPFO members during emergencies.

i.Expanded claim categories include illness, education, marriage, and housing, continuing the facility introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ii.All valid auto-settled claims up to Rs 5 lakh will be disbursed within 72 hours (three days), eliminating manual intervention.
iii.In Financial Year 2024–25(FY25), the EPFO processed 2.34 crore advance claims through the auto-settlement mode, marking a 161% increase from 89.52 lakh claims in FY24.

  • Additionally, the share of auto-settled claims rose significantly, accounting for 59% of all advance claims, compared to 31% in the previous financial year.

Global Tobacco Epidemic 2025: Tobacco Control Efforts Protect 6.1 billion PeopleIn June 2025, Geneva (Switzerland) based World Health Organization (WHO) released a report titled, “Global Tobacco Epidemic 2025: Warning about the dangers of Tobacco”, at the World Conference on Tobacco control (WCTC), held in Dublin, Ireland.

  • According to the report, 6.1 billion people, over 75% of the world’s population, are now protected by at least one of the Monitor, Protect, Offer, Warn, Enforce, Raise (MPOWER) measures, compared to 1 billion in 2007.
  • The report, developed by WHO with support from New York, United States of America (USA) based Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Highlights:
i.The 10th WHO report on global tobacco epidemic tracks the progress made by countries in tobacco control since 2008.

  • The 2025 report is accompanied by an innovative online data portal that enables users to track country-by-country progress from 2007 to 2025.

ii.The report focuses on the six proven WHO MPOWER tobacco control measures to reduce tobacco use, which claims over 7 million a year.
iii.According to the report, India is among the countries identified as having best-practice-level graphic health warning labels in 2024.
iv.India was recognised among six countries to receive the 2025 Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards for Global Tobacco Control for its focused efforts in promoting tobacco cessation across the country.

  • Other recipient countries included Mauritius, Mexico, Montenegro, Philippines, and Ukraine.

India and South Africa Conduct 9th JDC Meeting in JohannesburgThe 9th Joint Defence Committee (JDC) meeting between India and South Africa was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 23 to 24 June 2025, with an aim to enhance bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.

  • The Indian delegation was led by Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Defence (MoD), and included senior officials from the Department of Defence(DoD), MoD; Department of Defence Production (DDP), MoD; the Indian Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force), and the Indian High Commission in South Africa.
  • The South African delegation was headed by Thobekile Gamede, Acting Secretary for Defence, South Africa.

Key Highlights:
i.On the first day, the co-chairs from both nations initiated the session with opening remarks, setting the agenda and providing guidance to the two reporting sub-committees:

  • Defence Policy and Military Cooperation Sub-Committee
  • Defence Acquisition, Production, Research and Development Sub-Committee

ii.On the second day, discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, with both sides outlining strategies to further strengthen bilateral defence relations.
iii.During the meeting, two agreements in the domain of submarine cooperation were formally exchanged between the two countries. These agreements are expected to

  • Enhance the naval capabilities of both India and South Africa.
  • Strengthen India’s position in defence manufacturing and exports.
  • Support broader cooperation in military policy, research, and development, in alignment with the objectives of the two JDC sub-committees.

Botswana becomes 1st African Country to Achieve WHO Gold Tier in Ending HIV Transmission
In May 2025, Botswana has become the 1st African country, as well as the 1st high-burden HIV country worldwide; to achieve Geneva (Switzerland) based World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Gold Tier status for the elimination of vertical (mother-to-child) transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) as a public health issue.

  • It received this recognition under the Triple Elimination Initiative, led by WHO in partnership with Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and New York (the United States of America, USA) based United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), which supports countries in eliminating HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B through integrated maternal and child health services.

Note: Earlier, Botswana became the world’s 1st country to meet the criteria for silver tier status on the path to elimination of HIV in 2021.
Key Progress made by Botswana in Controlling HIV Cases:
i.Botswana achieved stringent targets set by WHO such as:

  • Reducing annual case rates of new HIV pediatric infections from less than 500 per 100,000 live births to less than 250 per 100,000 live births.
  • Increase in service coverage from 90% to 95% of antenatal care attendance, HIV testing and treatment of pregnant women living with HIV.

ii.As per the UNAIDS Spectrum Report 2024, nearly 360,000 people are currently living with HIV in Botswana.

  • However, 98% of pregnant women with HIV now receive antiretroviral treatment that has reduced vertical transmission rates to just 1.2%, which further resulted in less than 100 infants were born with HIV in 2023.

Points to Note:
i.Cuba was the 1st country in the world which received WHO certification for eliminating the mother-to-child transmission of HIV and Syphilis in 2015.
ii.Till date, 19 countries and territories have been certified for eliminating the mother-to-child transmission of HIV and Syphilis, with 11 of them are Caribbean countries.

World Bank launches USD 426 million programme to boost water security in BengaluruIn June 2025, the World Bank (WB) board of Executive Directors (ED) approved the ‘Karnataka Water Security and Resilience Program’ for USD 426 million(mn) aimed at enhancing water security and resilience for over four million residents in Bengaluru(Karnataka), India’s leading tech hub.

  • The fund will be provided by Washington, D.C., United States of America(USA) based International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) with a maturity of 20 years and 5 years’ grace period.

World Bank approves USD 150 million for TNWES Programme:
The World Bank has approved a new USD 150 million Tamil Nadu Women Employment and Safety(TNWES) Programme to help the state enhance access to quality employment for 1.6 million women and boost female labour force participation.

  • The loan from the IBRD has a maturity of 25 years with a grace period of 5 years.
  • The programme aims to strengthen the state’s capacity, technical partnerships, and institutional structures to support women’s employment.

AAHL Raised USD 1 Billion Project Finance for MIAL 
In June 2025, Ahmedabad (Gujarat)-based Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited, raised USD 1 billion through a project finance structure for its subsidiary, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), marking India’s first investment-grade (IG) rated private bond issuance in the airport infrastructure sector.

  • The transaction was led by New York (United States of America, USA) based Apollo Global Management (APO), managed funds with participation from major institutional investors and insurance firms including BlackRock-managed funds and Standard Chartered.
  • The project also aligns with MIAL’s sustainability goals, particularly its target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2029.

Key details:
i.The transaction includes the issuance of USD 750 million investment-grade notes, maturing in July 2029, which will be utilised for refinancing.
ii.The structure also includes a provision to raise an additional USD 250 million, bringing the total financing to USD 1 billion.
iii.The bonds are expected to receive a BBB-/Stable rating, supported by MIAL’s stable cash flows and operational performance.
iv.The funding will provide financial flexibility for MIAL’s capital expenditure plans including modernisation, capacity expansion, digitisation, and technology integration.
Note: As of June 2025, AAHL operates eight airports across India, handling around 25% of total passenger traffic and 33% of air cargo traffic.

Razorpay Launches ‘RazorpayX Corporate Credit Card’ for Start-ups
In June 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra)-based RazorpayX, the business banking arm of Razorpay, announced the rollout of ‘RazorpayX Corporate Cards’ in partnership with Mastercard Inc., RBL Bank, and YES Bank. Tailored for India’s tech-first and internet-first start-ups, this offering simplifies access to credit, crucial for scaling new businesses.

  • This launch addresses the USD 530 billion credit gap in India, where 95% of startups struggle to access institutional credit.

Key Features:
i.High Credit Limit: Startups can avail credit limits of up to Rs 2 crore without collateral, easing financial constraints.
ii.Low Forex Markup: A competitive 2.5% foreign exchange (forex) fee, significantly lower than standard industry rates.
iii.Interest-Free Period: Full repayment within 50 days waives interest charges, aiding cash flow management.
iv.No Personal Liability: Liability rests with the corporate entity, protecting founders’ personal credit scores.
v.Seamless Integration: The card integrates with the RazorpayX dashboard, offering real-time expense tracking and financial control.

HDFC, SINE, IIT Bombay Launches ‘HDFC Life InsUReka
On 24 June 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra) based HDFC Life Insurance Company Limited (HDFC Life), in collaboration with Mumbai-based Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SINE) and Mumbai-based Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, has launched “HDFC Life InsUReka”, an innovation challenge for startups, in a significant move to foster sustainable and industry-wide innovation.

  • The initiative invites startups from across India to co-create transformative, technology-driven solution that addresses real-world challenges in the life insurance industry.

i.The strategic partnership marks a key milestone in India’s Insurtech journey, bringing together the industry expertise of HDFC Life with technological expertise of SINE to offer a platform that aims to identify and support startups, driving innovation in insurance sector.
ii.The Startups with a working prototype or Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and market readiness can apply. Applications must be submitted through the official portal: iitb.org. The last date to apply is 7th July 2025.
ii.The Selected startups will get the opportunity to build Proof of Concept (PoC) with HDFC Life. Startups will receive mentorship, access to boot camps, and industry insights through SINE, IIT Bombay. Finalists may also explore long-term collaboration opportunities with HDFC Life.

Tata Power-DDL & Japan’s Nissin Electric Commissions India’s First Micro SubstationIn June 2025, New Delhi (Delhi) based Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a joint venture (JV) between Tata Power Company Limited(TPCL) and the Government of National Capital Territory(NCT) of Delhi, in collaboration with Kyoto (Japan) based Nissin Electric Company Limited, commissioned India’s first micro substation equipped with Power Voltage Transformer (PVT) technology in New Delhi to provide low-cost and reliable power supply to consumers.

  • The project aims to implement Japan’s energy efficiency technologies in India under the International Demonstration Project on Japan’s Energy Efficiency Technologies, publicly solicited by Tokyo (Japan)-based New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
  • To initiate the project, Tata Power-DDL and Nissin Electric formalized their collaboration by signing a project agreement in August 2024.

Key Features:
i.Technology: PVT directly steps down Extra-High Voltage(EHV) 66 kilovolts (kV) from transmission lines to low voltage 240 volts (V), removing the need for traditional multi-stage substations.

  • Each micro substation occupies 40 square metres (m)and provides 100 kilovolt-ampere (kVA) capacity, sufficient to supply 50–60 households.

ii.Cost Efficiency: The PVT-based system reduces infrastructure costs by approximately 96%, lowering expenses from Rs. 50–60 crore for conventional substations to less than Rs. 2 crore per unit, while also requiring minimal land area.
iii.Pilot Location: The first PVT micro substation has been installed at Tata Power-DDL’s Smart Grid Lab in Rohini, New Delhi (Delhi), and is currently supplying electricity to 20–30 households under the pilot phase.
iv.Significance: The initiative aims to ensure affordable and reliable electricity supply to remote load centers located in difficult terrains.

  • Additionally, the micro substation model offers an efficient solution for densely populated urban areas, where extending the power network is constrained by rapid infrastructure growth and space limitations.

Hooghly CSL Secured Rs 100-250 Crore Order for Building Luxury Vessels
In June 2025, Kochi (Kerala)-based Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (Hooghly CSL), has received an order worth between Rs 100 crore and Rs 250 crore from New Delhi (Delhi) based Heritage River Journeys Private Limited (HRJPL), which operates under the brand name Antara River Cruises.

  • This development supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative and showcases India’s growing shipbuilding capacity in building globally competitive cruise vessels.

i.The order involves the construction of two inland luxury river cruise vessels to be deployed on the Brahmaputra River, aiming to enhance premium inland waterway tourism in India.
ii.A construction contract has been signed for the first vessel, while a Letter of Intent (LoI) has been issued for the second vessel.
Antara River Cruises: 
i.Antara River Cruises is known for its curated luxury voyages along the Ganga, Padma, and Brahmaputra river systems.
ii.Its flagship vessel, Ganga Vilas, holds the distinction of being the world’s longest river cruise, spanning over 3,200 kilometres (km) across 27 rivers, covering regions including the Gangetic plains, Sundarbans, and Brahmaputra Valley.

  • The journey has been recognised by the Limca Book of Records.

ACQUISITION & MERGERS

CCI Approvals on June 24, 2025
On June 24 2025, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the following proposals:
i.Approved the proposal of Ranjan Pai-led Manipal Group to acquire stake in New Delhi (Delhi) based Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL) from its founder JC Chaudhary.

  • As per the proposed arrangement, Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Manipal Group will acquire stakes in (AESL) through its affiliates: Manipal Health Systems Private Limited (MHSPL) (Acquirer-1) and Manipal Education and Medical Group India Private Limited (MEMG) (Acquirer-2).

ii.Approved the proposal of Boston, Massachusetts (the United States of America) based Bain Capital Investors, LLC (Bain Capital), a private equity investment firm,  to acquire stakes in Kerala based Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), Manappuram Finance Limited (MFL), and Thrissur (Kerala) based Manappuram Asset Finance Limited (MAFL), a NBFC which is engaged primarily in providing gold loans
iii.Approved the acquisition of certain issued and paid-up equity share capital of Noida (UP) based Haldiram Snacks Food Private Limited (HSFPL) by Miami, Florida (the USA) based Alpha Wave Ventures II LP and Alpha Wave IHC CI, LP.

  • The proposed transaction involves the acquisition of less than 10% of the issued and paid-up equity share capital of the HSFPL by the Alpha Wave Ventures II LP and Alpha Wave IHC CI, LP.

Neeraj Chopra Clinched Men’s Title at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 in Czech Republic
On 24 June 2025, Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won the Men’s Javelin title with a best of 85.29 metres (m), in his maiden appearance at the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike Meet in Czech Republic.

  • Douw Smit of South Africa (SA) finished second with a best throw of 84.12 m, which came in his second attempt while Anderson Peters (Grenada), the 2019 World Champion secured the third place with an 83.63m throw in his first attempt.

i.Neeraj Chopra was at the third at the end of the second round, after opening with a foul before an 83.45m throw. He moved to the top spot with his third-round effort of 85.29m, which made him the only athlete on the event to cross the 85m mark.
ii.He is the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics, which he achieved at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021) with a throw of 87.58 metres.
iii.He made history again by winning the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships 2023 (Budapest, Hungary) with a throw of 88.17 metres, becoming the first Indian to win gold at both the Olympics and World Championships in athletics.
iv.He also won silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, held in France. He  is the first Indian to cross the 90-metre mark, achieving 90.23 metres at the Doha Diamond League 2025.
Note: On June 20, 2025, he won the Paris Diamond 2025 title with a best throw of 88.16m.

Day of the Seafarer 2025 – June 25The United Nations (UN’s) Day of the Seafarer (DotS) also known as the International Day of the Seafarer is annually observed across the globe on June 25 to recognize the vital contribution played by seafarers in facilitating international maritime trade and supporting the global economy.

  • June 25, 2025 marks the 15th edition of the Day of the Seafarer (DotS).
  • The annual observance of the day is led by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized UN agency based in London, United Kingdom (UK).
  • The campaign for DotS 2025 is “My Harassment-Free Ship”.

Background:
i.The Day of the Seafarer was established through resolutions adopted at a diplomatic conference held in Manila, Philippines, from 21 to 25 June 2010.

  • This conference finalized the Manila Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention).
  • Resolution 2 from this conference proclaimed 25 June of every year as the Day of the Seafarer.

ii.The first observance of DotS took place on 25 June 2011.

World Vitiligo Day  2025 – June 25
World Vitiligo Day (WVD) is observed annually on June 25 to raise global awareness about vitiligo, an autoimmune disorder causing skin depigmentation. Vitiligo is a condition where the immune system destroys melanocytes, skin cells producing melanin, causing loss of skin pigment and lighter patches.

  • WVD is also known as Vitiligo Awareness Day or Vitiligo Purple Fun Day, as purple is the official colour representing vitiligo awareness and solidarity with those affected by the condition.
  • The theme for the WVD 2025 is “Innovation for Every Skin, Powered by AI”

Background:
i.The idea of World Vitiligo Day was initiated by Steve Haragadon, Founder of Vitiligo Friends Network, and formalized by Ogo Maduewesi, Founder and Executive Director of Vitiligo Support and Awareness Foundation (VITSAF), Nigeria in 2011.
ii.The first World Vitiligo Day was observed on 25th June 2011, in memory of Michael Jackson, who had vitiligo and passed away on 25th June 2009.

Passport Seva Divas 2025- June 24
Passport Seva Divas is celebrated every year on 24 June across India to commemorate the enactment of the Passports Act, 1967, which was enacted on 24 June 1967.

  • 24 June 2025 marks the 13th Passport Seva Divas.

Background:
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declared 24 June as Passport Seva Divas in 2013, and it has been observed annually since then, marking over a decade of celebrations dedicated to enhancing citizen-centric passport services in India.
2025 Events:
On June 24, 2025, Union Minister S. Jaishankar, MEA launched the Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0, mobile (m) Passport Police Application(app) and rolled out the nationwide implementation of electronic (e)-passports, during the 13th Passport Seva Divas celebrations, held in New Delhi, Delhi.

Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas 2025 – June 25
Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas, also referred to as Constitution Murder Day, is observed annually across India on 25th June to mark the declaration of the Emergency in 1975 and to honour those who suffered during its imposition.

  • The observance serves as a solemn reminder of the assault on India’s constitutional framework and the importance of protecting democratic principles.
  • June 25, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the Emergency in India in 1975 and 2nd observance of Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas.

Background:
i.On 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister (PM) of India, Indira Gandhi, invoked Article 352 of the Indian Constitution, proclaiming a state of Emergency which lasted 21 months, until it was revoked on 21 March 1977.
ii.The day was officially designated as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) in 2024.
iii.The first observance of the Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas was held on June 25, 2024.
